It basically is a monarchy right now. I agree with everything you said LucidRocker. Although religion was just used as an excuse for wars, I'm fairly sure whoever started wars over religion would've started a war anyways, religion was just a very convenient excuse.

I think if people were taught morals, and their parents put in the time to raise them properly, we wouldn't need government as we know it today, as people would be able to make the right decisions on their own. Personally, without the government, I would do just fine. Sadly, there are a lot of people in the world right now who would not be fine at all, thus making the government necessary.

If it is defending yourself that you are worried about, live in a community that cares about each other, and I'm sure people would have no problems defending themselves militia style if the need arose. The need for armies is due to the fact that there are powerful people in the world who want more power, and are willing to do anything for it, including destroying whole cities. Obviously against such people, more than a spontaneous defense group is necessary. But against your random murderer / rapist / thief, a united community is all you need to defend yourself. The problem arises in getting everyone a quality education, without it, idiocy will find its way into powerful positions and continue to try to oppress and pillage the world.

The most powerful weapons on their side are ignorance and deception. They use these to trick people into following their cause. Anyone sane and capable of thinking for themselves would not blindly follow these people's words.

There are a lot of people in the world who have fallen victim to ignorance and deception and who legitimately believe that they need the government and will do anything for it (joining the military for example). I am not anti-military, I am just anti-military misuse, which is clearly the case. Governments are severely lacking any kind of moral compass.

Getting a job I hate that pays very little, and what little i have, mostly goes into false income tax claims and into the pockets of oil hungry assholes. Even tho there exists today a complete replacement of fossil fuel and Oil that would not damage the earth.

And I'm supposed to be happy and gratefull for all of this? so yeah keep on with your dead end job and get your degrees that aren't worth shit. Plus, getting a degree actually INCREASES your chance of NOT getting a dead end job if you get ones that actually require intelligence. Such degrees will lead to careers that change and grow and are quite fulfilling. I realize this is not for everyone though and there are other fulfilling ways to go. So dont be so bitter against it.

I think too many people didn't think about what they wanted to do with their lives enough before deciding on a career path. Because shouldn't you pursue something you're going to enjoy? I know a lot of people who hate their jobs and complain about it... But it's their own damn fault so it's hard to really feel sorry for them.

And I think if people were taught good morals, it doesn't matter whose morals, just that they are good ones, that we'd be better off. It doesn't take a genius to be able to tell right from wrong. If you don't know what good morals are, then perhaps you should do some introspection.

People feel it is alright to lie and steal to get ahead. They think it's ok to take advantage of those weaker than them. In fact, theyfeel it's necessary. There is no need for such competition. We are all in this together so let's work together instead of against one another for a change.

But in reference to the original post, I think it is necessary to vote and participate in society. Not voting just makes you part of the large group of people who don't give a fuck. If you think there is too much government, or should be no government, then vote for people who say they will do something to decrease the amount of government. Vote for someone like Ron Paul.

And in order to prove rape you need to have an actual eye witness. It doesnt matter if the guys DNA is all over her ...(not that they would investigate it or process it to begin with) or that she was beaten and someone saw the guy walk out of the room or they got it on tape. Someone actually has to sit their and watch her get raped >.<

In america a women whos life is endanger if she doesn't get an abortion (like people with severe diabetes) is not able to get an abortion in some states because they want to put religion on everyone.

well I have read a lot of literature all of them critical of religion.

And now that I just read Stranger in a Strange land which was all about religion and how morals are what cause all the war and strife in this country.

Basically a guy who was born on mars comes to earth and he has never been exposed to our system of morals.

Basically he imbodies Hienlien's view of sexual freedom and a new system of morality. He starts a "church" that isn't really a religion because everyone is from different religions and everyone simply does not care who sleeps with who....

I just finished reading it last night and it was by far the best book...and trust me ive read a ton of good sci-fi books.
