Hey...
So I realize that a lot of people say things like:
"non lucid dreams are almost like watching a movie, you don't really have control of what you do."
"I am on auto pilot in my non lucids and just do random things."
"I am never finished with the plot when I wake up."
"It is like I am an idiot in the dream."
I have dreams that are like the above ^^^ at least I had some dreams like that before I started LDing. I always loved dreams because it was like escaping to a magical faraway land. When I learned about LDing I flipped. I can control my dreams?!?
Anyways back on subject (stay on target). I am normally very "Aware" in my non lucid dreams. Not really aware that I am dreaming, but aware of what is around me. I used to separate my dreams by "dreams that I am in charge." and "dreams that I am just watching."
Dreams that I am just watching were like the ones people described above.
Dreams that I am in charge I constantly am discovering amazing things. I am normally being chased or something of the like and when I think why I am being chased I come up with a normal reason like "I stole his diamonds!" and I can remember fully doing this. When I am running I will start remembering other dream elements that didn't seem to exist before. It even happens in the first dream of the night when I have no previous dream. Because of this constant creating of "fake" dream memories, my non lucid dreams are normally very long seeming and very meaningful. I will share the one I had last night.
Spoiler for Dream 1:
I am on an island with my wife. We are spending our last day together of our lives. I am thinking about all the time we have had. After we died God told us that we could spend three more lives together of 50 years each before we entered into heaven. I am going up to our beach house to meet her and go on our last walk as I am remembering this (150 whole years of memories in one thought, I sometimes feel overwhelmed by these). I grab her hand and we walk to a place overlooking the ocean as the sun goes down. We talked about our kids and the life we had. The sun was setting and I looked at her face. We both had to hold octagonal screens in front of our faces that showed our face behind it. We could see through it somehow though. This seemed normal enough that I didn't think about where it came from or I would have another history in my mind. The sun set and as I expected to go to heaven I was sad and happy, because I had had a long beautiful time with my wife and we would both be going to paradise.
r = 6 in (approx 15 cm)
a = 4 in (approx 10 cm)
2 inches thick (approx 5 cm)
The screen was mostly black with the other person's face somewhat floating in the middle. It was also 3D. The sides were made of gold.
That was last night. I was very confused to wake up in my bed and not in heaven. :P
Spoiler for Dream 2:
I was sitting at a booth in Applebee's getting ready to order. A girl comes up and just sits down right across from me. I think for a second (as I always do) of my relationship status. Can't think of anything (like my wife... this always freaks me out), so I start flirting back with her. I have this happen a lot in dreams since I am pretty self confident in my looks (if you are wondering. There is probably a 1 out of 20 chance you will think I am good looking. Doesn't matter how good looking you are, it is a weird truth I have found out). I continue talking to her and she diverts the flirting and starts just talking with me, doesn't seem too interested, rare for any DC. I keep talking to her and we are getting along great, fast friends. Suddenly a lady (early 40s) and a young girl come and sit next to us and the lady, whom I know is her mother, says "Have you just been catching up with Cece?" (pronounced C-C). My mind spins and I look over at the girl. I think about all the time I spent with her a few years back before she just disappeared. Two years of time. Her name was Tracy. All the information on her family and where she lived and all this came back to me as a rush of information. Tracy looked really embarrassed and ran off. I started chasing after her and woke up shortly after.
That dream was a few months ago.
In these dreams as in almost all others I have a past that seems to just program itself into my mind and I also have choice and my full consciousness, I just have my full consciousness with a different past.
Share experiences, or tell me what you think about it.

I have had something like that.
I was playing to much of a certain video game one night and dreamed I was being attacked by zombies. It was scary when they got to close, but when they were farther behind it felt more awesome than scary. In the middle of this my friends began to regroup.
I woke up to my cat stepping on my head.

I have had dreams in which I feel I have some effect on how things unfold, but who knows? It could just be part of the narrative of the dreams.

Before I discovered lucid dreaming, pretty much any dream I had was very long and vivid. I had "adventure" like dreams (With detailed plots etc.) about 90% of the time, and I had about 4 a week. Apart from dream fragments, all my dreams are pretty much like this, and a lot of the time I too make up fake memories of my past in dreams which makes the plot more interesting.
I'll have a look back through my DJ to see if I can find anything that really stands out where I've had a dream that made absolutely no sense until my mind came up with a "memory" for it all to work. :)
EDIT: Last week I had a dream where I was on a beach in a tropical country, but everyone was sat on rocks on the beach. I immediately thought "Oh yeah, this must be the colony we moved to where everything is free and all you have to do for it to be free is fish for chickens in the ocean." It made a lot of sense in the dream, but I created the memory as the dream began which gave the dream more of a plot.

This is interesting. Not all my normal dreams have the fake past, but they are all crazy vivid.
@jknaiger yeah, it is something like that.
@ citizenofzeal it is more like knowing what happened before you were in that dream. Almost like you are actually in someone else's world and you can pull memories from it.
I am going to read your book later. It sounds interesting. :P
@ mysticaldipsh*t
Yeah. That is the exact thing I am talking about. Isn't that crazy that your dream can create a fake memory? Don't you think that this has some crazy implications about the dream world and real world?

I have had some dreams in which I'm unaware, and very mortal.
I have had some in which I was unaware, but I had the ability to do anything with my mind. During these dreams I get a sense that I have always been there, and I actually don't recall any world where I do not have these "super powers"?
I also have semi-lucids, where I know that I'm dreaming, but I'm not actually conscious. For the most part, I experience the dream only afterward, in memory, and I think "Why didn't I do something lucid-dream-like?" I believe that it is because I am aware that I am dreaming, but I am not conscious.
I have also had lucid, conscious dreams, in which I am fully conscious, and aware that I am in a dream. These are the most amazing, and I always spend these just looking at things, and feeling the texture of things, and even licking things. lol

I have only had 1 lucid kind of dream so far, where I was lucid for about 30 seconds but I got too excited and lost control. But what you were saying sounds like my dream because all the way through the first part (which lasted a while) I said to myself "That's stupid, I'm dreaming." or "I'm in a dream." So I knew I was dreaming, but it wasn't until about the 25th time I said it that I actually realized "OMG, I actually AM dreaming."
When I woke up it was like a major face palm because I was annoyed that I didn't realize it sooner. XD

Yeah, the words "I'm dreaming" carried little or no meaning. I hate when that happens. Good luck with LDs.

This is, in fact, what I mean by unconscious lucid dream. They are enfuriating.

I think, I know, what you mean.
Some situation is present - and a whole back-story comes with it.
Then I seem to remember also "old-feeling" memories - which also fit into this dream-content.
Sometimes I do remember older dreams in actual ones - like a places - even fictional flats I find myself in again.
Not to an extent of 150 years worth of memories..
I have comparatively bad dream-recall, though.
Much more is going on, than I am currently aware of.
So many themes repeat over many dreams of mine - it is maybe like there is some dreaming-drive - and it flows along valleys and rifts - around mountains or boulders - which it creates itself.
Like glaciers.
So it is not even necessary to conjure up all of it on the spot - past "landscapes" - figuratively - can be flown along once more.
Just the details will be completely fresh.
To come up with false memories seems to be a pretty easy feature for the brain..
Like with confabulations when there are amnesic or aphasic problems going on.
I am aware I do digress now.
But yeah - since staring journalling and LDing - I feel more control in NLDs and also more favourable outcomes seem to come about - maybe itīs only me remembering them newly ..?
