No sense of linear time.

Since I've gotten back into the dream study thing (Dream Views has reignited my interest in such things, thanks guys!), I've been making an effort to pay attention to the little details while falling asleep and after waking. I've noticed that while I'm trying to remember my dreams to write down that often they seem to come to me as nonlinear. That is, it seems that my subconscious just throws them at me in a big jumble as if it didn't matter and I have to consciously try to work out some sort of time line that makes sense (as if dreams ever make any kind of sense :shakehead2: .) Does anyone else ever get this feeling?

Other interesting things I've noticed are that some times while in the fog of remembering and recording my dreams that occasionally some dream that I had forgotten about months or even years ago will just pop into my head for apparently for no reason! Now I know that some may think that I'm just deluding myself and I only think that it seems like old dreams but, I swear that it is a distinct impresion that I get that these dreams are being remembered from ages ago. Some of them are ones I never even bothered to write down!

Anyone else get details like this?

In a word, yep. To both.

And I've never quite managed to work it out. In retrospect, things sometimes feel familiar, as though I had dreamed them before. And as soon as I think that, I get vague memories of these other dreams. But I can never prove that I didn't just dream that they were familiar, and then make up old dreams.

Ok, this is really starting to wierd me out! It happend again this morning (remembering old forgotten dreams.) It always happens when I'm trying to solidify my memory of the dream I had that night. I'm sitting there walking myself through it to bring back all the details and boom, bits and pieces of old forgotten dreams just start poping into my head. I've heard of people developing excellent recall but, jesus what the hell is this! The only way I can describe it, is it's like looking through an old picture album. One will come accross old pictures of yourself and immediately remember the setting in which the picture was taken, even despite the fact you haven't thought about it in years. I had parts of four different dreams pop up while I was just trying to remember the details of the one I had the night before!

Anyone have any ideas? This has really got me perplexed. :undecided:

Ya, what tanaqui said. :)

Maybe because while your in the process of recalling dreams and, " trying to solidify my memory of the dream I had that night." That you are making connections a variables that your subconscious are bringing to the surface. Since it is all stored back there somewhere, recalling dream oreinted ideas may be rehashing old ones.
