Flying help
I am pretty confident in my ability to Lucid Dream, i've been doing it since I was a child and the regularity of going lucid is mainly dependent on my getting to sleep on time...
anyway, I have been able to do all sorts of interesting and fun things in my dreams, but for some reason I can not fly. From what I understand, this is a pretty early step for most lucid dreamers but I really can't. I either wake up or basically end up "moon-jumping" with my arms spread to the sky... i've tried jumping off of everything from buildings to trees to catapulting myself
i've broken the barriers of the waking world on numerous occasions (creating, changing, destroying, etc etc) but I can't seem to shake gravity...
has anyone else encountered this, and/or have any advice?
Maybe a certain mind-set or thought that you notice to reoccur while you're up there soaring?
I have it set in my mind that I should go sky-diving, in the hopes of familiarizing myself with what it's like to be out of a plane and up in the air...

Sky diving could work. On the way down, with free fall, you could try and it may work. In lucids where I just couldn't fly, I've said "Flame on!" and fire engulfed my body and I was able to fly. I've heard of others using other methods, such as the Iron Man Suit, a jet pack, or winged shoes. So good luck on finding out what works for you!

Well first, read the DV Flying Tutorial.
If nothing there helps you, then you should try thinking outside the box: get a DC to help you, get lessons from superman, try an air glider to get used to the flying feeling then jump off.
Just remember that you're in a dream. Gravity doesn't apply. The only thing stopping you is your expectation to fall.

I had a dream recently in which I was flying. I was catching an updraft against the side of a cliff. Think about a bird and its dynamics with the air.

Alright I sorta get where you're at. When I first got into actually trying to lucid dream, (I did it naturally before, but not like every week) and the first thing I did was fly, and all I did was jump up and soared, but has I progessed in my lucid experiences flying became harder for me. There was even a period when I couldn't fly unless I had a boost of some sort. Now I had to get a running start, I jump, kick my legs around to push myself up, flail my arms a bit then put them out to the side and that's how I have to fly now, when I used to just be able to jump up. Someone you might want to do, is take of your shoes and then trying to fly (while in the dream) and maybe take off any extra clothes then try. Or maybe try to grow wings? Theres little odd things in lucid dreams that help (and one of them, being taking off clothing, because it's "extra weight")
good luck :D

One thing you could do is try growing wings. I've done it once before and it feels really wierd having two more limbs but also kind of cool. Also, don't give up. Practice makes perfect and the more you do it the easier it becomes.

When I first started LDing I tried to put my arms out and fly and it didn't work either. I was getting frustrated, and I told a friend from another message board. She said "Why don't you try flapping your arms like wings?"
Sure enough, next time I had a LD I tried it and for some reason it worked.
Maybe you should try some different methods of flying?
