Only one I have told about this is my best friend and I even got him to try it, although he just tries to have them, he doesnīt keep a DJ or anything. My mom and dad would probably respond with a "oh" and my sister with a "get out of my room". And I donīt even want to know what would happen if I told my classmates about it...
reactions i think will happen: some of my friends may be interested a little bit, my brother wouldnt get it, my mom would like it but then constantly bug me about it and try to share "storys with me", and the others would probably just say,"oh". the last two would really suck, and thats why i dont tell anyone about it.
Yeah man! I'll talk to anybody about lucid dreaming. I won't engage people in conversations much though, as I'm incredibly shy. But if I was asked, I would love to talk about lucidity.
All my close friends know and I've written many papers about lucid dreaming in college. I'm very open about it.
Well, I haven't told anyone because, i think that people would starts to think that i am mad. :/
Only 2 of my friends, my brothers, his friends and my mother knows I am a lucid dreamer. And they are all into lucid dreaming except for my mon who doens't like the idea. She thinks I'm dedicating my self too much to it or something but by now she probably forgot about lucid dreaming. Other people just ignore it when I tell them...hell, one of my friends went as far as to say that lucid dreaming is gay,he was like "what kind of women would be interested in it?". It's kinda disappointing that they are missing out such an amazing oportunity and don't even care about trying it...

Their original perception of dreams - Maybe you can relate, but imagine spending most of your life feeling like dreams are more like past visions with absolutely no control or even that you don't dream at all. For me, it was the idea that I didn't dream at all. To imagine going from that state to a state where dreams feel like waking life where I was in total control would be incredibly hard for me to accept. However, I was fortunate enough to have spontaneous lucid dreams before going at it full throttle.
It's not real - The idea that dreams are useless things that happen at night and that it's "just a dream" permeates a lot of today's society. At least in many parts of the world (I live in America, so it's like that around many parts here). Even if I reached this lucid state what could I accomplish? When presented with lucid dreaming, one might not immediately think of everything he can truly do. They might consider it like a virtual video game that is impossibly difficult to achieve and still not feel completely like waking life.
Many times it might take an actual lucid dream to allow a person to truly see what an experience like this can offer. Dreams are a part of who we are. They are not useless. And we can use them for more than just past visions that we barely remember. We can experience them like anything else in waking life because our perceptions of each reality is (I think) fundamentally no different than the other when we're lucid.
I see, you're right. I guess them lucid dreaming is something people need to experience by themselves to believe how it can be good...
My mom knows, I tell her all the time when I get a LD. Also, a friend of mine knows, but he isn't interested in it I think.
The attitude towards dreaming and lucid dreaming in the US is culturally charged to say the least. Nobody talks about their dreams except children. There is no value placed on dreams, because they are silly and immature.Quote:

i tell people that i think would be interested. and for the most part they are pretty responsive, except that i know that they aren't into the idea themselves. and other people seem like they are really into it, but are to stuck in their own cycle of life to start trying to do it themselves. but really, i keep most of it to myself because people just aren't receptive to the idea that there are more to dreams than just "reviewing the last days info, and storing it in your mind"
the difference is that if you fell and cut yourself on said vacation, you would have a scar when you got back. if you dreamed it, you wouldn't have a scar when you woke up.Quote:

I've told my family, all ny friends, and a few co-workers. My mom and dad can care less, and my sister hates if I talk about it. Both my brothers do (one of them actually introduced me to LDing), my mom thinks it's cool, and my dad thinks it's a waste of time. Only one of my very close friends knows that I do it, and I got him to LD too. Other than those 5 people, no one else.
My OH laughs at me when we talk about it and is always teasing me! Noone else I know really understands lucid dreaming at all.
One friend showed a bit of interest after watching inception :roll: but hasn't mentioned it since and my younger sister once tried it and had one lucid but couldn't be bothered to try. Most people I tell now either look at me like I'm insane or just act like I haven't said anything!
I once told a few people at school about, and they claimed to have had them before. I have my doubts, though.
Told my two sisters. The older one was like "Whatever, what's the point?" but my youngest sister was like "Cool!!" and had a lucid dream that night. -.- I was like seriously? I spent six months trying to get lucid and she does it in one night? She's young though so I guess that's why.
That's the thing... people always say: "What's the point in lucid dreaming? It's not real!" You spend a third of your life laying in bed anyway, and you might as well have fun with it.Quote:

Well, when I first discovered LDs, and after having a short one the 1st night of trying (and none after!), ive told a few close friends. 1 of them does reality checks to humor me, 1 is really dedicated to it, I think he grasps it, 3 are kinda hesitant, though interested, and 1 is freaked out because they think if it happened, it'd be like Inception, and they'd get killed in their sleep...
What's the difference between a waking life experience, say sex with a beautiful girl, and a similar dream experience? I know the real one was real, but what does that imply? Sure, there are probably some physical mumbo jumbo that plays a part in it all. It's all about how we decide to think of them. Who can tell me that the dream sex wasn't nicer just because it wasn't real?
Except for that, the only thing that separates Real experiences from Dream experiences, is that you can share Real ones. But what if Shared Dreaming is real? Even if it's not, if I want to think that I had a great time with a certain person, then I have all rights to think so. The experience itself was real.
Then people tell you you're nuts, and that dreams are just fake and bla bla bla. They must be jealous or something...'

Exactly. That's a long time to waste. Even if what you're doing in that 1/3rd of your life isn't "real," it's like... sort of tangible at least (or it feels like it in the dream...).Quote:

I talk with a couple of close friends about it who are also dreamers. Sure wish they would join DV! :D Most of my other friends have no interest in the subject or look at me like I have two heads when I mention it. Personally, I don't care if some people dislike the fact that I dream and enjoy it. I can't please everyone.
A contracted software developer at our company is into dreaming extensively and we've talked quite a bit about the subject. Quite nice to find a couple of locally-interfaced (real life) people who are into it as much as I am.
I told it to my parents, my mum was like yea i've heard of it but then just continued with another subject and my father was like, what's the point in controlling your dreams? Dreams are just for processing what you did during the day so yea, i never bring that up anymore. I've told a few friends about it though. One was quite interested but she thought it would too much of a hassle to keep a dream journal etc (which i agree with because i am too lazy to write in it, but am trying to start that again..). She was really interested in anime back then so we were always talking about if we succeed we could fight alongside our fav chars! And another friend she listened to me and just wanted to know my experiences but didn't want to try it out for herself so yea.. xD
