I think I had a Level 1 (minor)-ish dream last night. I thought to myself "This is a dream!", and then it was kinda blurry after that (still working on dream recall) but I remember drifting back into non-lucid dreaming and then waking up.

thank you sir!
i found another article from Laberge's "nightlight" news letters which covers this:
A Fool's Guide to Lucid Dreaming
here is an excerpt:
"One way to look at rationality in dreams is to classify different levels of lucidity. At the highest level, the dreamer would not only be aware of dreaming, but also possess complete understanding of the implications of this knowledge, and would behave in accordance with that understanding on all levels from thought to action. The lowest, minimal level of lucidity would be realization of dreaming, but without understanding how dreaming is different from waking, and without acting on the lucidity at all, mistaking events, characters and consequences with those from waking life. Yet, degrees of rationality vary from moment to moment in dreams, so that one wishing to use a scale of levels of lucidity would have to rate each decision, action, or response of the dreamer independently. Averaging the lucidity levels in a dream might be a way of establishing a lucidity "score" for the dream. All of this is for future research to decide. "
That is an excellent excerpt, very foundational. And very old -- I wish LaBerge continued producing NiightLight; it was a handy newsletter. I highly recommend digging up this issue and others to anyone who cares about this stuff.
That said, what also might be included in all this is the quality of memory in the dream -- I think the article actually talks a bit about that. For instance, one main reason your mind is addled in a dream is because it fails to remember even the most obvious details of your life (like you're asleep in bed, or that the person talking to you has been dead for 10 years, where you were 10 minutes ago). The level to which you are able to hang onto the memories that define your self corresponds directly to the level of your lucidity.
Going by this.. Nearly all of all of my dreams are layer four, major...
However, I don't think I've ever had an out of body experience.
I'm 18 and I've never consciously trained my dreams, the lucidity just comes to me naturally.
Can someone talk to me about what all of this means?
