Killing DC's; a question regarding the impact it has on the mind/self

Simply put: What are your views on intentionally hunting down specific DC's and killing them in a gruesome manner? Is this a good or bad thing for the mind? I have plans on locating all of my ex's (the one's worth my ventilation, anyway) and putting them all 6 feet under in more than one piece.

I have mixed views on why I want to do this. Firstly: because I feel it will help cleanse my mind of unwanted personages. Symbolism is strong in dreams, and death can represent the end of something old/unwanted. I've always been very literal when it comes to ''facing my demons'', and go by the understanding that what I sort out in the dream world will be sorted in terms of my state of mind generally.
There are also sadistic influences. Although I'm not a violent person, I have had my deranged phases in which I've wanted to take the lives of others in mannerisms too explicit to go into here (from which states of mind I'm safety at ease from these days). It would be interesting to see what I'm actually capable of doing in a lucid dream.. and how realistic the end result would look.

I only kill DCs for fun or to get rid of them, I don't carry out anything serious, why are you asking us if it's right, that's your judgement.

I guess it's really how you let it affect your mind.
Example: You're lucid, and someone attacks you in your dream. You kill them. Do you care? Most people wouldn't. Here's why: In a normal waking state, if you killed someone in self defence, then you'd still be shocked and probably freaked out, but you know it was the right thing to do, or you'd be dead right now. This, combined with the fact that you know it's a dream, you don't really care. (Well, the majority)
Now lets look at killing someone innocent, who woul do this? Apart from serial killers, who are normally seriously mentally messed up. Imagine if you were to do this in real life, and you were a normal person. You'd be incredibly depressed and sad, it'd consume you. So, I mean, even if you do tell yourself it's a dream, it could still eat away at you.
However for instance, you seem to be fine with it, so I doubt it'll bother you, it's how you let it affect you. Just tell yourself it's your imagination, no different to thinking a thought.
I myself, wouldn't kill anyone, I think there's alot more productive ways to spend lucidity, but if it's what you want to do, go for it. Just be ready incase it does affect you.

Personally I don't like using violence in my dreams.
I've tried approaching negative dream characters with kindness because I figured more negativity would just make them stronger.
Once I yelled at a character to leave me alone and then I absorbed it. I felt this was like reclaiming the energy that this person was taking from me.

It really depends on how you feel about it. You can try killing one of them and see how you feel afterwards. If you don't feel great about it, you could find the DC again and apologize.

In general, I don't think intentionally encouraging your violent thoughts is ever a good idea. Of course, we are all human, and violence is in our nature.

I think the best way to get over a grudge is to forget about it so you can move on. Focus on other, more positive goals. We have unlimited freedom in dreams. We can be anyone we want. Our lives can be anything we can imagine. Why waste that time dwelling on past grievances?

Violence is NOT human nature. It's screwed up thinking and could use a few adjustments. I've seen this in this forum in several forms. Forcing rape in dreams would be one. There are many others, but that raping thing is not cool. That is psychologically raping yourself. Not good. The thing many seem to not realize is that what you dream becomes one day real.

My opinion: why would anyone find killing DCs entirely "enjoyable"?

I agree that it might be fascinating to see what happens to them when they die and how they react, among other things - testing to see the nature of dreams and all. But doing it simply to watch the blood run and try one's hand at injuring someone... That, I fail to understand. Doing sadistic or morbid things in a dream simply because of curiosity doesn't justify it for me; I could never bring myself to stab someone or shoot them in the head, even if they were just a DC. It's not the fact that they're not real, but more so the fact that a good number of people, including myself, would cringe at the possibility of killing someone in a dream. As Robot_Butler mentioned, we all have violent tenancies but we've developed as a species to be capable of morality. We're not nearsighted creatures that can only think of one basic thing at a time. It doesn't feel good to kill anything, especially other people.

It depends, they arent real after all. How do you think it would effect you to actually feel yourself killing someone (assuming the dream is realistic enough, otherwise it may seem like a video game). I havent yet but I may try killing in my dreams just out of pure curiosity to how the dream makes it feel and my reaction. If you have second thoughts about killing for any reason, a good alternative may be to beat the shit out of them if you just want to vent anger, I know a few people I would like to punch in the face myself. Otherwise go ahead with it.

It is still making violence and force seem glamorous, but they are not glamorous to me. Flying is glamorous, Dreaming is glamorous. Forcing or beating or hurting others is not glamorous. Now you may see the scene in a glamorous eye, but from my view it just seemed like some guy beating and hurting on people.

Some people are damaged and unable to see certain things objectively. Please don't let their overly moralistic views sway you.

Violence is a bad thing, yes, but a necessary and unavoidable part of life. Life without conflict is stasis, and there can be no growth in stasis. The Utopian dream of life without the slightest hint of violence or hate is unrealistic and rather ridiculous to try to uphold as a moral goal for people to live by. If we deny the existence of violence then we're unprepared to deal with it when it inevitably happens.

That said, in my non-lucid dreams I frequently experience all sorts of werid violence - sometimes it doesn't affect me at all, sometimes I have a scary sort of bloodlust for it, and sometimes it horrifies me.

In lucids when I've experienced violence it always makes me feel bad. I haven't had many lucids, and the violence in them has been subdued - once I "woke up" in my bedroom (FA) and went lucid to find three creepy-looking men crouching halfway in my closet and weirdly frozen as if my going lucid had stopped or drastically slowed time for them somehow. I didn't like the fact that they were creeping in my room while I slept, but all I did was to grab their apparent leader by his bald head sort of like a bowling ball, with a finger in each of his eyes, and squeeze a little. His flesh resisted strongly, like it was as strong as tire rubber (result of being so slowed in time I believe) but after a moment I did feel my fingers sink in slightly. I don't think it did much damage, and I left right away so I couldn't tell, but I did feel bad about it afterwards.

Then there was the time I tried to use lucid powers of finger-pinching right in front of my eye to crush the heads of gigantic stuffed monkeys who were gathering in a corral-type fenced-in backyard to invade our world. It didn't work, neither did my attempts to throw force bolts at them from my hands. But they were definitely enemies of mankind as well as stuffed animals, so I wouldn't have felt bad for destroying them.

Eldante, I'm curious, how would you deal with a DC who was trying to rape you if you discovered you had no special lucid powers or dream control and couldn't escape or wake yourself up? For that matter, how would you deal with someone really trying to rape you in waking life? I think you'd be surprised how violent you can be when necessary.

Violence is overcomable. This is one of the really great benefits of Lucid Dreaming. Fear is a non Lucid Beast, as are anger and desires to force and harm things. Lucid Dreams are meant to bring Freedom from fear and such things.

To simplify, the only real choices are - fight or allow yourself to be raped.

What do you do?

If someone tries to rape me (or anyone) I guarantee them one outcome, and they will not like it. I do not use violence, but Karma, darling.

No one was willing to have sex with me last night, so I moved on.
I didn't have the stomach to force rape, just going to wait till next time.

I know there have already been a lot of replies. But really it's not that bad to do that. If you think it would help you out, then do it! Just try to not make violence the only way to solve things (in my opinion) you can also solve problems in lucid dreams in other ways. Not just killing someone, it's fine to kill them if you think it's going to help you. Just try not to let it carry over into real life haha.

Dreams are about exploring our true natures, human or inhuman. And if you feel a way, who is to say that isn't human nature? It is indeed human nature to not want to kill other people (why do you think we haven't blown ourselves up yet?), but if you feel as though you should, for whatever reason, then go ahead. I've killed 2 people in my dreams before, albeit multiple times, and they could respectively be considered as the male and female antagonists for my life, and I've killed the male at least 20 times and the female 4.

Aha, I've had sex in my dreams three times and it's always went fine.
Don't judge, but I'm bi-curious, so I asked this cute guy to come into the house, but he just refused, and I moved on. I tried two other guys, no luck. Continued with my dream :)

There have been very few times where I've been violent in my lucids if I'm honest.. in fact, I can only think of one incident where I sliced somebody's arm off with a metal ruler, but that was purely out of self defence.
I just feel it would help me conquer a few issues within myself, as I'm somewhat of a push-over and let people walk all over me without realising it. I can never be firm enough out of fear of an argument transpiring.

Anyway, about your question. Personally I don't like voilation at all, not in dreams and not IRL. I don't think that killing your exes will make your world balanced again. Why don't you try to have a lucid where you talk about thong and become friends or something? Or you could try to do that in IRL, that would be even better :)

That's the thing.. It's not that simple. Pretty much all of them turned out to be really nasty, abusive pieces of work. I just want them gone in every form.

I think that this is a two-part issue:

1) I enjoy the fighting in my dreams. To me, it's analgous to playing a video game. I don't think there is any wrong with a little fantasy violence, whether it be in a movie or video game. However, like in most video games, I am usually the protagonist, and never really go around looking for people to kill. They tend to find me, and attack me first. That kind of action, I can handle with a clear conscience, which brings us to part two...

2) I do not think that using dreams to play out actual, waking-world grudges is healthy. I mean, I think it's much less about it being a dream, than I do feel it's about your feeling the need to have to play out such violent scenarios on the people you have grudges against. I might say the same thing about taking a picture of someone you don't like, and putting it on your target board, at a firing range. There is just something about using something like that as an 'outlet' (in my opinion) that seems like it might be kind of detrimental to learning to relieve your stress in less vengeful ways.

I'm no psychologist, though, so I could be completely wrong about that, but that's just the way I see it. :)

yeah, i wont come to a random person and beat them to death with a baseball bat and rape their dead body and gorge out their eyeballs with my teeth. But i would have an epic battle with a dragon or fly out into the clouds and battle a robot trying to kill me by dodging all of its lazers by flying.

Do everything you can to avoid violence and spread love, but don't expect your dreams to start becoming examples of clean, respectable ethics.

I think there is a bit of distinction, here, though. We aren't talking about non-lucid dreams, in which the dreamer is being 'shown' these animalistic tendencies. It's about a dreamer who goes looking for these situations, consciously. I think there is a difference between the two. You don't?

True. In a lucid dream you can try to fight against it. I don't think this changes the fundamental nature of the dream. In most of my lucid dreams, I end up doing everything I can to try and keep things from going off the rails into sexy-violent mode. I'm sure I'm not the only one ;) Doesn't it feel good to embrace the primal nature of the dream, sometimes?

Sure. In some situations, it does. However (and this is just a matter of personal perspective, of course), there are just some acts that I don't find appealing - whether in a dream or in waking life - and so I certainly have an aversion to consciously seeking out those types of acts, even in fantasy. For example; I find the act of rape detestable, consciously, so there is no amount of 'it's just a fantasy' that would make me feel right about performing a lucid 'grudge rape', on some chick who did me wrong in waking life. I dunno. I guess I'm just not that vengeful a person.

I've been hurt and betrayed by plenty of people in my life, but that doesn't mean I want to find out what it feels like to disembowel them with a chainsaw. It's just not something that even crosses my mind, so I guess I just don't have any way to relate to seeking out such pleasures in dreams. To each, his own, though, of course. :wink:

This is pretty much how I feel about the subject. It's one thing to kill a bunch of zombies or aliens or whatever to vent your anger and frustration. But I don't think it's going to be good for your mental and emotional well-being to use dreams to enact violent fantasies about actual people. It's a good idea to get closure from dreams when it comes to something like an ex. For example, using the dream to tell them whatever you need to say to them. Or summoning them in a dream and asking them what you ever saw in such a jerk (it might help you to avoid the same mistakes later if they answer truthfully).

I do totally get the idea that killing off the person in your dream might help you get some closure and literally bury your feelings for them. But my advice is that if you do this, do it in a less realistically violent way.

Or you could just do what I did to my coworkers and force them to dance to Thriller for you....

I personally wouldn't have a interest in hurting DCs, it's just not me. I see nothing wrong with people wanting to do it though. As long as some one doesn't want to hurt others in real life.

I may contradict what I just said. I have made up this game with my friend. We have several male characters who were raised in the gang life, they've been abused and have abused others (some, not all). The reason I started lucid dreaming is because my goal is to become these characters, act out there lifes. So, I will have to hurt others but it won't affect me really because in these dreams, I am them, I am acting there life/emotions and so forth. It may really be me but my emotions won't be playing a huge role. I want to experience them.

I have a huge attachment to these characters in real life and there emotions are very real to me so I think it would be awesome to be them in a dream.
