From when you first learned about it. How long did it take. I've been doing it for one month now and still nothing. Is this normal? My dream recall has gone way up, but no lucid...
Don't get discouraged. I worked on recall alone for 2 months before i seriously started to try to become lucid, the easiest way to attain lucidity is a DEILD, if you can train yourself to wake up after a dream, you can usually go back into the dream as long as you don't move after you wake up.
pretty much the same as Ksero. For about a month I just worked on getting my recall good. Then I started actually trying to lucid dream. It took another month, maybe less to get my first one. As long as your recall is getting better and you dont give up, you should see progress and eventually get your first lucid too.
It took me a week or two from the time I began keeping a dream journal and actually trying to have lucid dreams. But I had two before that. One before I had any prior knowledge of what a lucid dream was. And the second one happened randomly as well about a year later from the first.
I had them in young age even when i didn't know what they were called.
But my first one after practice took 3 days.
I had my first one about a month after first practicing. It was very poor but since then I have lost motivation countless times... Please, don't make that mistake, it's something worth sticking to. That I can guarantee :shadewink:
I had my first induced LD after 2 weeks of trying. It was only 2 seconds long. After about a month, I had a longer LD.
I had my first LD after atleast one month, probably two, by not so active trying.
One late night I found out about lucid dreaming. Next day I found Dreamviews and spent most of the day reading the site, especially one 31 page thread that got me extremely excited and motivated. I did a few "looking at hands" RCs and "Next time I'm dreaming I look at my hands and realize I'm dreaming" mantras and had my first DILD that night.
Because of this I think, that level of excitement and intent is probably more important than how long you practice. Keep at it and get yourself motivated by some interesting threads, like 1000 things to do in LD, or DCs say the darndest thing. Good luck and Happy dreams:)
I learned about LDing back in like late 2011 and decided not to try it because I was scared about sleep paralysis, even without WILD. I even told myself before I went to sleep that I wasn't going to lucid dream I know stupid right? But then one night I just suddenly had a lucid dream and realized they were chill and not scary B)
I'm not going to directly answer your question purely because it shouldn't matter. Lucid dreaming should be used as a self development tool where everyone goes at their own pace. Though comparing yourself to others for motivation is sometimes good, I think your situation could lead to frustration. Re-evaluate what you're doing well and what you need to practice on.
Your time will come. :shadewink:
I've never personally achieved lucidity, but if you practice WILD dreaming (and if you can bare odd hallucinations and sounds during the process) It's possible to attain a, or even several lucid dreams every night. (several because some may be short and you may have another opportunity to lucid dream the same night)
Several tools, like the lucid dream timer by nick newport will greatly aid those who wish to WILD.
2 years. But most of that time I wasn't very dedicated and didn't even keep a dream journal. My first LD happened completely on accident in fact!
Then about a month ago I started keeping a regular journal and bam. Now it seems a little easier to get lucid.
I used to be a natural lucid dreamer. But that stopped a long time ago. After I learned what lucid dreaming was It took about two weeks to have my first. Now I'm having them any night I want. But that took almost two years to accomplish.
It took me a month to get my first lucid, but a lot longer to get my second. Just be patient! You will get there eventually. :)
Ive known what lucid dreams are since i was asigned a paper on them but i havent actually had time until recently to try lucid dreaming. My first one took 4 days. Its been about 3 weeks now and im up to 4 :)
I got my first lucid dream when I was a kid. I developed the dream incubation ability (decide what you want to dream) I was convinced that if I put my right hand under my pillow and thought about what I wanted to dream I would dream about it, and I did. This probably has to do with the fact that I as kid didn't had such a wandering mind as now and that I totally believed in myself.
I thought of a Harry Potter adventure and the next second I was standing side to side with the Harry Potter characters and in one of those dreams I realized I was dreaming.
It is easier for me to get lucid when I don't try, but the worst mindset of all is when you get frustrated of failed attempts. Unfortunately I try every night now because I really want to learn to do it naturally although I don't mind if I don't get lucid this night, because there is always a new night :)
So don't count the days it will do more harm than good! And don't forget to appreciate your non-lucid dreams as well.

Good luck!
at least im not the only one, who isn't doing very well :D. i've been practising ld for a month now , but absolutely no results.Though, i had one ld before i even knew what lucid dreaming was. i was dreaming that i was hanging with one hand on a bridge and when i was about to fall, there was like one moment when i said to myself i am dreaming and nothing can happen if i fall. but then i woke up. later, in the same night, i was dreaming tht i was by my friend talking to somebody, and again i had this idea from nowhere (without reality checks) that i was dreaming.I walked to the frigde opened, it and it was emty, then i said to myself if this is a dream, next time i open it it will be full.and it was , i got too excited and woke up. thats my only ld experience.
the biggest problem for me is that , if do a reality check in dream, i still dont understand that im dreming... (sorry for my bad english, english isnt my native language )
Took me 3 days after reading Stephen LaBerges 'Exploring the world of lucid dreams'. Normally I have one a week. But this week on vacation I am sleeping in 90 minutes longer than normal, and have had 5 in 3 days. The mornings I force myself to stay in bed and fall back to sleep even if not that tired. I really think getting extended sleep is important. For me I went from less than 7 hrs sleep to more than 8.
