Supplements impact on beginners

I was thinking that if I (as beginner) take some supplements to further my lucid dreaming at the first times, does this mean that after I achieve lucid dreams I won't be able to achieve them without supplements or that it will be significantly harder? And what about other stuff such as lucid dreaming masks?

In short: Is it better to start practicing lucid dreaming with or without supplements?

The common wisdom of the forum is to practice without supplements.

That doesn't mean they aren't useful or can't help. We actually have a whole section devoted to the matter.

To start your practice most people would encourage you to go without, learn your sleep schedules and dream recall habits and improve them to match your goals before trying any supplement.

If you are recalling three to five dreams a night and have a lucid at least once every couple months then I would express no concerns with trying supplements as a beginner. Some people would say go ahead right now. The choice is really up to you.

I started with supplements, GABA to be exact. the first time i took one was during a WBTB and 5 minutes after i laid back down i was in SP ad broke through into a lucid dream, this was a great step for me because i had not experienced SP or Lucid Dreaming before. After experiencing SP once i knew what to do once i was in it, so the supplements really gave me a leg up from where i was.

Really depends on which supps are you thinking of taking. If dream enhancing vitamins like B6, or 5-HTP, by all means, take them.

But if you thinking about lucid dream inducing supps, like Galantamine and Choline, I would recommend to start without, just to see how it feels.

I started taking Galantamine with Choline 2 month after started LDing. Had a few DILDs before that, but coudn't come close to WILD, because despite reading the tutorials, I could not figure out the last part of wilding - the actual entry into LD.

When I first took GM+Choline, all the sensations were really strong, I got the vibrations, the images and dreamlets and after a few tries I entered my first WILD. This made my future attempts (without supps) easier, because now I knew how it will feel, what are the things described in tutorials and what to do.

So if you look at supps just as a help, not a substitute to your practice, you should be ok. It may be harder without them, only if you don't educate yourself by reading the threads and tutorials and you will expect miracles without doing any work. But this is just my experience.

And the masks - they work by turning on some LED lights, that you are suppose to notice in your dream and become lucid. But if you don't practice daytime awareness training, RCs and mantras, all it will most likely happen is, that you might notice some lights in your dream, that can take of any form - police car lights, lighning, street light... and you will accept it as just a part of your dream.

I would recommend, before you shell out big bucks for the mask, to practice DILD/MILD for a few weeks and see what happens.

What is GABA? I assume SP stands for sleep paralysis? I don't want sleep paralysis I just want a lucid dream. I'm actually kinda afraid of sleep paralysis. Is there some way to avoid it to be happened?

Btw, I do own Vitamin B6. I also have Vitamin B12, L-theanine, Melatonin, Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) and Maidenhair Tree (Ginkgo biloba) -supplements.

GABA is Gamma-Amino-Butyric-Acid You can get it from any health food store, If you take it before bed at nighttime you will have very vivid and strange dreams, but if you do a WBTB and take one just before lying down it will put you into sleep paralysis, which lets you step right into a lucid dream. You seem to have some misconceptions about sleep paralysis, it's not something to try and avoid, and if you are trying to lucid dream you are going to being in it by accident eventually, it's not scary unless you make it scary, but the vibrations can be very intense, basically while in sleep paralysis you can build your dream scene and just walk into the dream, everything you see is controlled by you so there is nothing to be afraid of, if you can make it to sleep paralysis you basically have a free lucid dream.

I am lucid but not practitioner, I'm letting them ride. I don't dream fantasy anymore,all people and places and events. I recall them as memory sometimes...I have dream memories years back and reality ones. I work 3rd shift.....took Valerian root to see how I would sleep...lucid dreams never so real! My concentration and thoughts clear, dream environment so stable! I could observe all details of DC...dress and face, feel bodies,smell,move in real timing,and sat and enjoyed a DC cuddle in church I've never seen. He was an overweight gay man who was supposed to be best friend. Fun! Will try again!
