Is this a good reality check?

So, I hope that there aren't too many of these, and I hope that I posted it in the right category.

I'm just learning to lucid dream, and I'm starting to learn how to RC. And I am wondering if this is a good plan:
I have a timer going off every 45 minutes, and when it goes off, I look around my room or wherever I am, and I try to see if anything is out of the odd. Then I ask myself if I am awake, I try to push my finger through my hand, I count my fingers, and then I plug my nose and try to breathe with it. I am wondering if these are good RC's. Any responses would be appreciated. Thank you :)

For starters, that is a VERY good reality check. But what if, in your dream, your alarm DOESN'T go off? Will you still remember to do it? Also, I suggest mainly focusing on only one of those reality checks-- for me, it is pushing my finger through my palm (instead of trying to do everything at once). :)

1. Until you get used to doing RCs on your own, it's ok to use some kind of a prompt - a timer, a watch beeping on the hour, a sticky note on your pc, RC each time you walk through the door, wash your hands, when you notice something out of the ordinary or strange,...
I'm sure, pretty soon you will notice yourself looking at your watch prior to the alarm going off and doing RCs on your own. It's better that way, because you want to learn to RC spontanoeusly, since in a dream, there most likely will not be any prompts.

2. Your method is good, but - when you ask yourself if you are dreaming, you should believe that you are. And when you RC, you have to believe, that it will work, because you are in a dream.

And it's great to use more than one RC. Sometimes in a dream one of them may not work, or you are not convinced after first one, so you need to do another one or two to believe you are dreaming.

I'd advise hanging post-its around the house with things wirtten like "wake up" or "lucid dream". They help to remind me of doing RCs but they are also spontaneous.
