Do you ever get bored of people that don't talk about or care about lucid dreaming?

I wish I knew people at my job or friends that cared or talked about lucid dreaming. I feel so bored when I'm at a party and people talk about boring things like their manicures, pedicures, career, sports, money, politics, and gossip. lol I'm sooooo bored of these people!!! Help! I hope I don't have to deal with people like this tonight at this shindig I'm going to 2night. I'm not a stuck up person or mean...I just get bored easily with mundane conversations. I truly do love humanity but I just hate redundant conversation and pointless get-togethers. Am I the only one???

This is the very core of why I suffer social anxiety because I am afraid of being so dreadfully bored out of my mind that for hours all I can do or say is the following as people talk:

nod in accordance
say, "I understand"...over and over.
"That's crazy!"
"Really? Wow!"

Hah yes!! I love telling people about lucid dreaming.. But only people I like and know won't judge. I once even told my teacher last year when he left to be a stay at home dad, he seemed confused about it though. Most people are because they don't want to try new things that sound complicated. Most of my friends already knew what lucid dreaming was or said it sounded cool!!

Starletdreamer, you just described me to a tee (although I am a guy). I actually think maybe those who pursue lucid dreaming probably share a lot of these characteristics in common. Unfortunately, adding to your woes, I can't really even tell people about lucid dreaming...don't think Church or friends would approve and it would damage relationships I suspect....so I feel somewhat isolated.

That may be why DV has a family feel after awhile. This is where you can share and be accepted.

Yes, I feel the same as you starlet. I do enjoy small talk, but I also enjoy it when conversations go a little deeper and stray into the territory of philosophy and psychology. Unfortunately when I do that I find that people start looking round for an exit. I'm a very introspective person - the mind is paradise to me - but I feel that most people are sleepwalking through life and "don't like to think about things too much" and are happy thinking about what phone they'll get next or what's going to happen in their favourite soap that night.

Whenever I try to bring up lucid dreaming to people they are just like "ah, okay" and quickly change the subject.
I have also tried posting links about lucid dreaming on Facebook, but I never get any reactions on them whatsoever.

There was a time before most of us knew about what lucid dreaming, don't blast your friends for not understanding!

Talk about other things, lucid dreaming is great but don't make it your life

You don't sound stuck up or mean. You sound deep, intellectual, and introspective. I was going to say a lot more but it made me sound mean, so I'll just leave it at this... I agree 1,000%!

What you're talking about is really idle gossip and small talk, I think most people get bored of or don't like those topics much but have trouble having more deep and interesting conversations for whatever reason (usually just afraid to open up).

You have to find your people, then you can talk about anything, not just LDing. =]

It's the same for me. Whenever I try to bring lucid dreaming up they just ignore that I even said anything and go back to gossiping about people I don't even know.

I've only been into lucid dreaming for maybe a month and a half, but after the first few reactions from telling people (usually disinterest, small-talk questions about it, some were pretty eager to change the topic) I realized that there isn't much point. I still do it though :) :mwahaha:

Everyone's favourite topic is themselves, when someone is passionate about something they want to share it with others

It's not just lucid dreaming, it's deeper topics in general.
There's just not that many people you'll find that enjoy a good discussion on philosophy, politics, history, physics or just plain old speculation. They give off that barren cold hearted feel when they fail to comprehend the beauty of particularly well crafted argument, and just switch topics as soon as possible. It bugs me and usually means I won't become great friends with them.

On the other hand you are trying to initiate these things at parties, which obviously won't get you very far. The few people that can actually discuss topics like these usually appear around music groups, reading groups and even certain sport groups.

My girlfriend is showing some real interest and she's even trying to LD too :)

Nah, I don't initiate the conversation at parties. lol The shindig I ended up going to that night when I posted originally didn't turn out so bad. The person I ended up having a conversation with was a shoe designer and it was not about lucid dreaming. Mostly about his passion for shoe designing and his anger about the politics of college tuition and classes. lol Also talked about Halloween costumes, which wasn't too bad a topic and about tv series. I'm glad I forced myself to go. They were nice people. I just wish I can meet some lucid dreamers in person! There's one at work I suspect is a lucid one but I'm very careful in my approach. Like Laurelindo once said...talking about lucid dreaming to someone for the first time feels like coming out of the closet. lol I think it was you that said that L. It cracked me up.

Perhaps it's some deep-rooted fear of initiating a subconscious experience that involves facing an aspect of their personality they are afraid of facing. Who knows. It's almost like some kind of psychological avoidance.

This may be my number one problem in life...
People bore me when they talk about insignificant things.
Even when I try to suggest lucid dreaming, they brush it off as stupid.

I don't understand how some people just don't see the amazing things you can do while lucid.
Hell, even the thought of self-awareness in a dream should sound tantalizing itself, yet people still have no interest.

To this day, I have only successfully showed 2 friends lucid dreaming. One was a natural looking for guidance, the other was a close friend that moved away a few months ago.
The friend that moved away seemed very interested in it. I assume she has kept it as a hobby. Knowing I helped people should satisfy me...

Oh well, some people are closed minded.

EDIT: Also, a few days ago, one of my new friends who watches anime, and is into a lot of the same stuff as me asked me, "Hey, do you know anything about this thing called Lucid Dreaming?"

I honestly feel like the only thing that makes waking life better than dreams is our connections with people that we think are conscious as well. I am not one for small talk though, I generally grow in connections with people faster than most people and allow myself to be open with people rather than to just piddle away with small talk. Hobbies do actually help us to connect with people. So you are more likely to understand and like someone with the same hobbies as you. I have about a million small hobbies and a couple big ones. I know enough about enough small hobbies to create a quick connection with someone and move to conversation somewhere more productive. Hope this makes sense.

Really? You guys seem to be getting alot of uninterested negative replies when you tell people about lucid dreaming. Its quite the contrary for me, especially when I tell dudes specifically that you can bang hot chicks and fly around as much as you want AND that it all feels more real than real life. That really gets them hooked.
Whenever I bring it up to random conversations people actually seem pretty interested. Then as usual there is always that one dude everytime I bring it up, "So thats what its called? Yea I do that every night." For the most part though people ask me alot of questions, but they never seem interested enough to really try it out. Only 2 of my friends out of around 240 people really actually started getting into it, at least their the only ones that have really told me that they have. From time to time they keep me updated on how their LDing is all going.
More recently though, I've been sitting with 1 out of the 2 friends that has really gotten into it at lunch, and we talk about it alot more now. He often asks me, "Dude Cory, what did you do in your lucid dream last night?" and I'll reply, "Just banged a few hot chicks and flew around for a while. You know, the usual." And then everyone at the lunch table goes, "Dude what?!? Thats dope yo!".

It depends on how you bring up the topic. Usually, getting directly to the point of lucidity scares people off. But, if you bring it up slowly, it ends up attracting their attention. It's like you suddenly start talking about dreams in general, like how people describe some odd dream they had to their friends. This initiates the topic, and now that it's settled, you can ease in with: "Ever found yourself in a dream, knowing that you're dreaming?" that always gets them hooked. People always resonate with that experience, saying: "Yeah, that has happened to me, how odd." Then you start expanding the topic, like nightmares or SP, you know, experiences that you're sure people have experienced. After that the opportunity comes to talk about lucidity, and when you bring it up, it's always best if you appear as if you don't know much about the topic, yet show some sign of interest in it. So you say things like: "Imagine what it would be like to know that you're dreaming, wouldn't that be awesome?" or "What would you do if you were conscious in your dreams?" Questions like these that make people think and that stimulate their imagination are best when trying to get people interested in lucidity.

What matters is HOW you bring the topic of lucid dreaming to others, not lucidity itself.

OMFG yes! I've had the same thought. Sometimes I'm tempted to raise the topic in conversation, but I get so flustered wondering how people will react that I can hardly ever bring myself to do it.

Didn't read through yet - but seems I'm exceptionally lucky. Just two days ago I got to know a friend of a friend, and the latter felt left out after a while of me delivering an enthused speech about LDing to the former, who sat rapt and wanted to know more and more, and sent me an SSM today, how he would have read up on it, and would try to learn it as well.
I got that reaction many a time, and even found several others, who already LD from time to time, or did so as a child, or even since being a child. My husband's father belongs into the latter category - admirable.
The "left out" friend knows my pitch by now, he also thinks, it's fascinating, but he has problems remembering any of his dreams and so he doesn't feel hope, unfortunately. I did not get one negative reaction from a variety of people, I've been talking to, actually.
