Bringing lucidity into real life

Well, I don't really know how to title this thread or if it's in the right forum, but I'll have a go at it. I'm posting it here because it's a lucid dream feeling that transferred into real life.

Thing is, some days ago I started feeling super self-aware a few times a day. I've been lucid dreaming for two years and trying all this time to figure out what self-awareness really meant and trying to actually feel it, but now I realize that whenever I tried to be self-aware, the only thing I was being was observational. I only ever had this genuine feeling of lucidity in very powerful lucid dreams, but when I tried to feel the same in real life to train myself, I didn't get to. It's like instead of my waking self-awareness transferring into my dreams to become lucid, I've developed this self-awareness in my lucid dreams and it's now transferring into my waking life. I hope this doesn't sound completely insane.

It's really hard to put it down in words, but those of you who have felt like this will know. Any thoughts?

"I made 3 times something like "super mindfulness". I know, that peoples here dont like it, and maybe it is not a good idea, but I made this "super mindfulness" with extreme effort (even straining or fight). I was giving all my power with an extreme hold on, to stay in mindfulness for 5-10 minutes. I cut my thoughts before they were born. Very hard work. I was getting in some psychodelic states. Changings in physical (i mean bodily sensations) and mental state, with some extatic laughter. All the 3 times I was having lucid dreams that night. I try it several times every week. Almost no chance to do it. It is magic, how the daydreaming wins the "fight"."

I wrote this yesterday to another thread. Psychodelic experience - high daytime awareness - high dream lucidity, looks like their pointing in the same way. Timeless, spaceless now. Unity. Blurred borders od subjectiv and objectiv. And my favorit: intensity. You are more alive, then the living.

This midnfulness you're talking about sounds like a lot of effort, though... my point was that I'm getting these experiences without trying, of course they only last for a few seconds, there's not a chance of them lasting several minutes without putting effort into it, at least not yet. What I'll try to do next is similar to what you're saying, but not so extreme: I'll try to hold on to these sensations and make them last longer until it becomes easier and easier.

I completely agree with you that with these sensations comes a great feeling of being alive, much stronger than with the self-awareness I'd tried before.

What I was done three times, was an extreme thing (I mean, really hard focus), and I am not a fan of extreme stuff. I think "the slow (not too slow), but always growing" phylosophie is the best. My awareness rushes are like running up the stairs, with junping over the steps. I think it has a danger. I dont like the trainings what some of the modern athlets and bikers (ect.) are doing...for the gold. This mental jumpings remind me of the stori of Ikarus. But, it is a interesting thing, that it is posible, and how dramatic the effect is on the upcoming night. Of course, this super heightened awareness was soaked with the intention for LD.

This is not insane to me, or even much of a surprise, Marta.

In order to be lucid in a dream you must have some measure of self-awareness, so it makes sense that you will necessarily exercise self-awareness in your lucid dreams. But in order to navigate waking life you need only be conscious, so there is no need to exercise self-awareness when awake at all... indeed, some people manage to live their entire lives without one moment of self-awareness. This lack of a need to be self-aware (aka, it is easier to not be self-aware) in waking-life makes true moments of waking-life self-awareness all the more difficult to encounter or achieve. And yet, those moments of self-awareness, when achieved in waking-life, can be truly enlightening; so it makes sense that you would find a way -- if even accidentally -- to tap the skills you developed in your lucid dreams to occasionally become self-aware during waking-life.

In fact, your OP sort of summarizes one of the many rewards that accompany successful LD'ing, I think: Learning to become lucid in dreams helps to enable lucidity during waking-life, and if you are lucid often enough in dreams, that lucidity will bleed through to your waking-life experience, whether or not you request it (or even know how to request it) in waking-life.

tl;dr: Not insane at all, I think. Through LD'ing you by necessity developed a level of sentience that exceeds normal waking-life requirements, so it makes sense that you would tap that expanded sentience during waking-life. In other words, by being lucid in your dreams, you have also learned to welcome self-awareness into your waking-life; pretty cool, I think!

I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but let me describe what I have experienced and see if it relates. This was an experience actually prior to lucid dreaming. A couple times I have really looked at my surroundings and suddenly had a feeling of "connectedness" to everything. The space between me and other objects was almost material rather than empty space. Or like seeing everything as a whole...like a painting only in 3d. I felt great peace and a feeling of belonging. This is not unlike the feeling I have in lucid dreams. This is why I also feel a sense of loss when I wake up from an LD.

and odd enough it comes from being less active in social media and internet in general. Somehow, there's more of a feeling that i can´t escape the present moment because virtual realities like facebook or, even DreamViews, are being substituded for «real life» things so to speak. I also consider streams of thought, specially rumination, or thoughts that don´t have any feedback from external environment, as virtual realities. That's where self-awareness can be helpful

Yeah, I can relate to this, it also comes with these self-awareness feelings. It's a strange feeling that everything will be okay if you just go with it, it's hard to explain, but I get what you're saying.

If a sense of lucidity flows into your waking life spontaneously, you can't help but LD like a secondary effect. Good news i think !
It is a vicious circuit and is taking momentum, i hope !

But the funny thing, as you put your post, is that what is happening to you is that you get lucid in your waking life, right? That's a great irony, because you are trying to become lucid in dreams and get lucid IRL instead, where you probably assumed you were already lucid.
