Forgetting to perform basic things on becoming lucid.

The majority of my lucid dreams are spontaneous DILDs, despite putting my main efforts towards WILD in the past and SSILD in the present day. In 95% of these DILDs, even the most basic stuff is forgotten. Reality checks? Not a single one(except in the case of becoming lucid due to a RC), let alone my routine. How does one combat this?

I know there is more than one solution. Back in September 2013, I had 28 DILDs across 18 nights from reality checks alone. However, the frequency of RCs was upwards of 50+ a day, which was not sustainable for more than a month. However, it can be a temporary solution today. (Due to becoming lucid by RC, I can remember my routine from the RC.)

This is my biggest roadblock. If I were to solve it, 90% of my lucid dreams would be a minimum of Layer 3.

Just keep practicing your "just got lucid" ritual while awake. It just took me a few times of doing this before I did it in my next LD. I need to return to doing this since it always has led to longer, more stable LDs.

What are your goals for LDing? I recently have been putting a heavier emphasis on goals and it has helped a lot. Of course I use a lot of incubation for goals as well as making my main goal to "slow down". This helps to make me lucid as well as to help me remember my goals. Here is a thread I made about it.

Do you really want to RC every time you become lucid? I recommend doing something that increases your awareness and your ability to remember goals! I like to lay down and go to sleep as soon as I realize I am dreaming. This is a good reality check and slows you down all the way to not moving and gives you some time to think. It helps with a lot of the stabilization problems too, since you don't worry too much about time, and that is a really easy way to make dreams last longer. Just never worry about waking.

RCing is extremely important when it comes to me--it's how I get everything started. Once I RC, I immediately begin my memorized routine from habit. Once this routine is done, I remember my objectives from there. So basically, No RC ~ incomplete experience. And that's the thing; I only occasionally remember to do an RC.

And btw, that 'just got lucid' ritual practice is what I've been doing, and am hoping to get results sometime.

I had the same problem. What helped my was thinking about doing an RC as soon as I will become lucid, after doing an RC in waking live.

How much visualization do you do of your just got lucid practice?

Gotcha, I would recommend doing some visualization before sleeping and in WBTBs. Visualization is very good for LDing. ;)

Wait, you go to sleep in the dream when you become lucid? can you elaborate some more on this because I did this once and went into a new lucid, then when that lucid ended I was back in the previous lucid where I had gone to sleep. It created a sort of buffer zone from waking up IRL - would be curious if this happens to anyone else?

Jacob I would suggest creating a lucid routine if you don't have one already.

Pause > remember goal > stabilize > increase lucidity > proceed with goal. Maybe throw in a RC even if you know your lucid it might increase lucidity/control.

Other than that try to remember your goal each night and use intention to make it happen.

If you want optimized awareness of your surroundings you could practice this during the day similar to animal or battlefield awareness. You could also examine objects more closely in your lucids like pick up some sand and feel the grains in your hands.

I have a routine created already, but I appreciate the suggestion. I also practice it during the day to keep it fresh in mind.

it can create a buffer zone, but i have also been like 4 layers deep and just woken up. :p important to remember that it is just a scene change, but also, if you think of it as a buffer zone and you feel yourself "waking", instead of waking yourself up, your expectation sends you back a level. i think that a lot of times people feel the "dream ending" and wake themselves up by thinking that.

So yeah, basically instead of Rcing, I just lay down and use that as a teleport/RC. it shows myself that i am nor worried about waking, gives me a sec to calm down and think about goals, and also proves 100% that i am in a dream, escapes the dream plot. quite a few other things it helps with too. I am usually 100% in control after, no weak spots in dream control and i can go wherever i want with it.

That's where prospective memory comes. Prospective memory is more important than lucid dreamers give it credit for. It's the memory which allows a person to remember to remember a task. I suggest that you work on prospective memory which tackles what you want to remember. In short, practice or act becoming lucid while awake and doing those "basic" stuffs you forget.
