Days off practicing and DCILD

Hi,
a couple of questions:

A while ago, I practiced reality checking and the MILD/WBTB techniques for a month. Then one day, apart from writing in my dream journal I did nothing - no reality checks or techniques - because I just felt worn out. That night I had the most lucid dream I've had to date - I became fully mindful that I was dreaming and this shocked me awake. So I take it that taking a day off from practicing once in a while is beneficial? If anyone else does this, how often?

Also in this dream and a couple of others, I became lucid because a dream character told me that I was dreaming - I asked "Am I dreaming?" out loud and they replied yes. Around that time, a couple of dreams where a DC outright told me I was dreaming - "You are dreaming right now" - but I didn't believe them and so didn't become lucid. I'm curious as to how these situations happened then - Are there any habits/behaviours or events in waking life that could trigger a dream character to tell you that you are dreaming?

Interesting concept! I haven't heard of using this as a method, since for me most of the time DCs try to stop me from becoming lucid rather than letting me in on the secret. AFAIK think this is the more common experience. But now you've piqued my interest! :D For the next couple of nights I'll try visualizing frequent DCs telling me that I'm dreaming and see whether or not it manifests. I'll let you know what happens!

Hello! What you might have experienced is a reduction of stress/expectations which allowed your subconscious “room to breathe” As you see with stress and setting expectations, we tend to get so hung up on one future, when there is much better on the way and we didn’t even realize it. (after all, in a lucid dream, you’re basically omnipotent), your dreaming reality is infinite.


That’s a really good sign if your dream characters are telling you when you are in a dream.
That means lucidity is deep in your subconscious that you can literally tell yourself you are lucid with other parts of yourself! Exciting!

I would recommend, visualizing a random dream character scene where one tells you, you are lucid within walking, with deep meditation.

Setting the intention to see a dream character to give you lucidity before bed.
And to really try something….. Next lucid you get (which will be very soon im sure) tell it this exact sentence
“Make all my dreams automatically lucid”

This is the PERFECT time to put a mantra in your subconscious, DIRECTLY and INSTANTLY. So hey… do it… :P

It's interesting that you bring this up--I'm actually planning on trying something like this. I also lift weights, and something that is common in that activity is a "deload week"--a week where you still work out but the weight is lighter and it lets your body and psyche recover before starting strong again a week later.

I am going to implement this in my own lucid dreaming practice in a few weeks here. My basic idea is to just cut down the intensity and let my mind rest. So, I will still meditate daily, but I will meditate on whatever I feel like and maybe for less time. I will still dream journal, but maybe only any really good dreams I have instead of everything. And I will still do RCs if I think of them, but I won't put any particular effort in to remembering.

I'm planning on doing it for a few months and then, depending on my results, posting some kind of guide here.
