Sleep Disorder (kinda)
Hmm ok I don't know whether it is a sleep disorder or what, but it's something I've noticed happening to me a lot recently.
Ok, what happens is this; some nights I'll hop in bed to go to sleep. I'll close my eyes an drift off, having a bit of HI as I go, sometimes even feeling a little lucid. I will sleep for half an hour then wake up. Sometimes after waking up I'll go take a slash and then fall asleep again, other times I won't be able to get to sleep again for hours. It doesn't sound that weird, but it happens ALL the time now... fall asleep for almost exactly 30 mins, wake up again. Even when I'm going to sleep at irregular times etc.
Does this happen to anyone else?

Sounds like you have kinda messed up your sleep schedule a little. What do you do in the time you cannot get back to sleep? Do you just lie there or do you get up and do something?
Spending that time reading a book, especially a fantasy or adventure, is a great way to get your mind in gear and hopefully cause a lucid later in the night.

Hmm well sometimes I can get back to sleep. Other times I can sit and read, try meditating or just lying there until about 4 am. It happened again tonight, it's weird... I get a really sped up, irregular heart beat too. Hope I don't kick the bucket.

Happens to me all of the time. It's called insomnia. There is a post in tutorials about good sleep habits. It should help.

I agree with the above. If you have been trying hard to lucid Dream and do the techniques, that may change your sleep schedule. Maybe try just leting the Lucid Dreaming go until your sleep cycle is normal? Then when it is, start up the Lucid Dreaming thing again. jsut an idea.

Hey Roller,
Is there anything at all that has changed in your lifestyle? Diet, meds, job ?
I know you just finished your novel recently, also. Any stress there or maybe
a change in schedule because of that?

Relaxation Techniques work... check out the HILD(Hypnosis Induced Lucid Dream) it includes some good techniques that relax me anyway.
Theres different things you can do before you go to bed, like not watching TV or going on the computer as this keeps your brain active. Reading books usually will relax people enough. Diets can effect how late your body stays active, excersise is a factor too.
If I actually want to go to sleep, which most of the time I stay up... like right now when I fell asleep at 6 pm, woke up at 1 AM, and stayed up till 8 am to answer this :P
Anyway, I lay in bed with my eyes closed. If you have a light on, cover your face from the lights with your blanket or pillow or dog. Because the light can go through your eyelids, causes more of a red effect then a pure black. After that lay in any position in bed that is comfortable for you. Keep your eyes closed and covered from any lights, and start paying attention to your breathing. Take deep slow breathes and count them to get your attention. Count as far as you can till your relaxed or extremely bored. If you get bored enough you might just fall asleep from that haha... Then you start focusing on different parts of your body to relax them specifically at a time, so instead of trying to focus on your whole body to relax focus on one part, and once you have relaxed that, choose a different part. Usually going from your feet, calfs, quads, pelvic, stomach, back, chest, upper back, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands. Something like that, just focus on one part, relax as much as possible and then move on, keeping that part relaxed. Then you might consider thinking of the HI imagery, or just think about something comforting and interesting to you. The reason this will help is when you wake up, don't get up or move around or go, O crap! I woke up, I have to go read for 5 hours now... no, just lay in bed, keep your eyes closed, and do the breathing. A good tip after you wake up if you didnt want to is to not open your eyes!
Another thing is, if you dont want to sleep, You won't. (To an extent)
If its something emotional or psychological that is bothering you, preventing you from sleeping. You can be open with these guys, their very nice and encouraging.
Ok! Go check out the Tutorials page, Sleep Disorders, all that good stuff.
Meanwhile, :P what's your novel about? I'm working on a book more or less for my own enjoyment, Romance/Fantasy/Fiction, ya know all that good stuff haha.
Sincerely,
Ezekiel
Happy Sleeping.
