I had two experiences during my sleep last night which I would refer to as phenomenons.
Firstly, I’ll introduce the possibility of injected false memories in dreams. This presented itself in two separate dreams last night:
Back in school again [...] I then sat down next to S and noticed that he got a new purse from what he had last semester. I acknowledge it, “I see you have a new purse,” which I assume he got it for Christmas. I go look in his purse and it is full of pens and pencils. [...]
[...] We have some company over. I go into the living room to get my silver trays. I notice that L is there, who gave me the trays last Christmas. I acknowledge that I still use the trays. [...]
In the first dream snippet, I was quite convinced that S owned a purse previously and now has a new one. S obviously does not own a purse (as far as I know). In the second, when I saw L, I immediately remembered that she gave me the trays last Christmas, when in waking life I don’t even own silver trays.
Secondly, something else quite interesting happened last night. I recall quite vividly thinking to myself during a dream, “I know I’m experiencing a dream right now. If there was only some way I could tell myself that...” The thoughts seemed to originate outside the dream, as if in my waking conscious, while I was watching my dream. I was consciously trying to figure out how I could tell my “dream mind” that I was in a dream. My mind set existed more in my thoughts, which likely weren’t operating at full capacity, than in the dream which was happening.
