substances substantially changing dreams?
This may seem like a really stupid obvious question but i must know. I used to use a number of drugs so I know that the same night you've taken whatever it may be. ie. shrooms you are likely to have a strange dream, or even marijuana. however these effects are not permanent. But, last week I tried acid for my first, hopefully last (i like to try everything once and get it all out of my system so never again), it was very potent stuff. i didn't sleep the night of the day i took it, and the next few days were a blur, plus i was drunk. however, now that I am all sobered up for the last 2 nights i have had the most disturbing dreams. I actually woke up screaming last night. in a cold sweat and when i went back to sleep the 2 times after that i had more graphic nightmares. is this usual? and will this eventually stop. I know acid can change a person's perception permanently in some ways. this is what worries me drastically. that my young angsty one time decisions will have life changing effects. sleepless nights are not cool

Whoa, stick with the marijuana ;) . I don't think i've ever heard of short-term drug use permanently giving somebody nightmares. Alot of drugs and alcohol tend to screw up your REM sleep so once you sober up it rebounds and makes up for lost ground. So you may just be happening to have nightmares on nights that you are having extremely powerful REM sleep. It'll will probably go away soon. The nightmares can also be a good time to realize you're dreaming.
