      substances substantially changing dreams?

This may seem like a really stupid obvious question but i must know. I used to use a number of drugs so I know that the same night you've taken whatever it may be. ie. shrooms you are likely to have a strange dream, or even marijuana. however these effects are not permanent. But, last week I tried acid for my first, hopefully last (i like to try everything once and get it all out of my system so never again), it was very potent stuff. i didn't sleep the night of the day i took it, and the next few days were a blur, plus i was drunk. however, now that I am all sobered up for the last 2 nights i have had the most disturbing dreams. I actually woke up screaming last night. in a cold sweat and when i went back to sleep the 2 times after that i had more graphic nightmares. is this usual? and will this eventually stop. I know acid can change a person's perception permanently in some ways. this is what worries me drastically. that my young angsty one time decisions will have life changing effects. sleepless nights are not cool

Whoa, stick with the marijuana . I don't think i've ever heard of short-term drug use permanently giving somebody nightmares. Alot of drugs and alcohol tend to screw up your REM sleep so once you sober up it rebounds and makes up for lost ground. So you may just be happening to have nightmares on nights that you are having extremely powerful REM sleep. It'll will probably go away soon. The nightmares can also be a good time to realize you're dreaming.

yeah i don't even smoke pot anymore... but i definitely won't be doing that one again. the reason i suspected it might have been related to my dreams was because i usually have nightmares but i actually woke up screaming and what not but i know people who after having used acid have frequent flashbacks and other strange quirks now.
anyways, thanks for your comment, i'm always welcome to more suggestions!

i'm not sure if it will stop. i know someone who still has flashbacks every 1-5 years from a single acid trip when she was a teen.

i've never tried acid, because i've never been sure its pure lsd.

i do know she can deal with them easily now, and 'step outside' the flashbacks instead of having them frighten or control her...

if one trip has affected you like that, i'd recommend staying away from the chemical hallucinogens. if you really ]feel like tripping, maybe stick with shrooms..

i hope you feel like your old self very soon

Acid never really had a large effect on me in that sense. My dreams did not substantially change. I mean, yeah, after one takes a drugs ones dreams can be altered, and maybe in some people that's permanent, but not with me. Drugs have changed me in a positive way and made me to the person I am now, so obviously my dreams changed. As my personality progressed, my dreams became more interesting. This is largely boosted by drug use.

Heh. Drugs also help with lucid dreaming. Especially my valium perscription. <3

99.99% of the teenage population does or has tried smoking pot. If you have and you've enjoyed it, copy & paste this into your signature line. Everyone else, you're lying!

I did acid a number of times in my college days. It definitely will keep you up for a while, so don't plan on sleeping until it wears off -- at least 8 hours.

But I can't say that it ever affected my dreams in any way that I could tell, nor did I ever have flashbacks. Perhaps I was just lucky. Of course, I used to smoke a good deal of weed back then too, so my dream recall was probably not very good to begin with.
