Well, from my studies I have learned that you can just by relaxing and asking to speak to it. In fact, peebrain over at psipog, if I'm not mistaken, said that speaking to your subconscious is as simple as something like this.
You: Hello? Mr. Subconscious?
In your head: Yes? What can I do for you?
You: We need to talk.
Head: Ok, sure, go ahead.
And then speak! I mean, some may think this is bogus, but I guess it's somethnig to try out.

Worth a look. I think that it gets too much into precognition, but hey.

Wow.
Psychedelic alkaloids surface the unconscious mind!!!!
Eat some psilocybe mushrooms, or some mescaline from your neighbors san pedro cacti, or if you're lucky you'll find some lsd.
We have an amazing relationship with these strange chemicals,
and during your chain-reaction of a "Trip" the unconscious
becomes conscious . .:mandel:
The thoughts . .
O wow-
They are so intriquit,
everything is clear,
you feel like you are stretching
for hours.
Everything is art,
and everything is breathing.
Seriously,
that is how you surface the unconscious in our waking life,
wow is really all i can say.
Who here can vouch for that?
Try meditating. Using mind altering drugs is like trying to control a team of wild horses. And of couse the inevitable coming down must happen. They can be useful for the initial "door" opening, but relying on them for each transition may not always be the wisest choice. The Yogi is able to maintain a state of pure awareness without the use of drugs. The pure awareness pulls back the curtain of illusion, where drugs can merely perpetuate the illusion with more illusion.
unconscious :P its "subconscious"
Nah man.
There's a difference.
Ever read Jung?
To my understanding the unconscious mind is all of the weird activity
that occurs in the brain (or mind, if you will, but i won't)
This surfaces when one is subconscious, AKA going to sleep
Once enlightened with the hypersensitivity
of a nervous system working faster than it ever has before,
You can remain self-aware forever.
You just have to know.
and then believe that you know.
There is no other way to tap into the insanity and rainbows of hypersensitive psychedelic thoughts, though.
What can I say? I love waves with high crests.
:yumdumdoodledum: :reading:
I may not live long, but I sure will learn a lot.

subconcious. thats what i meant. what ever.
There's no conscious or subconscious (or even unconscious) PART of the brain that exists.
It's simple like this...
There are things that you are conscious of now, like thinking about what I am saying and making sense of it.
There are things that you are not conscious of until I mention it... Like how your clothing feels on your skin, how your breathing automatically etc.
Well we didnt say PART of the brain (or atleast i didnt), we said your subconcious mind or concious mind, as in...well its hard to explain. but you know what i mean right?
First it's important to realize that you only have one "mind" and referring to conscious, subconscious, and unconscious minds as separate entities is not technically correct. It's merely a way to illustrate certain concepts. That said...
Your "conscious mind" consists of whatever you are currently thinking about or consciously aware of. Right now, this post is (hopefully) in your conscious mind.
Your "subconscious mind" consists of things which are not currently in your conscious mind, but can be called into your conscious mind at will. For example, your phone number. What is it? It was in your subconscious mind just a moment ago, but now that you have recalled it and are thinking about it, it is in your conscious mind. Another example is your breathing. Normally you don't think about breathing, you just breathe. At that time it is a process of your subconscious. But you are also capable of making your breathing a conscious process.
Your "unconscious mind" consists of things which are not part of your conscious mind and which cannot be called into your conscious mind at will (but do exist nevertheless). Examples would be a traumatic childhood event that you repress or a distant memory that you can't retrieve no matter how hard you try. Techniques like hypnosis can surface these memories, as can things like a certain scent or familar place, but you cannot uncover things from your unconscious mind purely at will.
The unconscious is often mistakenly referred to as the subconscious.
I think that there can be a lot of spin on all three. The conscious mind, the subconscious and the unconscious.
This is the way I perceive them to be for the most part.
I don't believe that most of the conscious itself is proven to be fact. More so speculative in nature.
I perceive unconscious as just that ---not conscious; without awareness.
This could be temporarily knocked unconscious for example. You obtain no sensation or cognition.
It can at times be construed as much the same manner as subconscious such as an unconscious impulse. A gut feeling. Things relating to perception. Possibly one not being of full consciousness.
The subconscious is a subdivision of the complexity of the consciousness in it's entirety. So you can easily compare precocious, unconscious and subconscious.
It seems to me that consciousness itself does not really exist..or should I say is applied unless it is in context to something, as premonitions, a post you are reading.
But as we all know we can read something in a nature that we are subconsciously somewhere else in our head.
A Psychoanalysis perspective --> the part of the mind containing psychic material that is only rarely accessible to awareness but that has a pronounced influence on behavior.
I'll have to disagree. Subconscious mind is an entity or a bunch of entities that hang out in the back of our minds. I'm not sure of their functions, but they do have a profound effect on dreams.
There were numerous occasions where these forces would blatantly manifest their existence by making me dream a specific dream (for example once I posted that I dont see realistic violence in dreams and got the most gory violent realistic looking dream to date. Kinda like "In Yo face" response).
A couple times I was kicked out of the dream for just thinking about talking to my subconsciousness - a guy materialized and kicked me out.
There are many more events that left me believing that I'm not "alone" inside my mind...
Even if you never experienced such things you may still witness the effect your subconscious processes have on you by analyzing your daily life - have you ever had random urges and desires surface and eventually make you behave a certain way? I may provide an example - whenever I play a game there's a certain moment when I have an urge to restart the game and start from the scratch. Sometimes Im able to resist that urge but most of the time it takes over...
Btw, you recall a cell phone number from memory. Information in memory is available to both you and your subconscious mind. Memory != subconsciousness. To prove that simply look at your dreams. If subconscious mind was the memory you would be able to recreate dream locations after RL locations *perfectly* which is very rare.
I feel like the "unconscious mind" = "Subconscious mind" the former term was used earlier in time than the latter.
I dont know why the conscious and subconscious mind cant communicate easily. Sure, it may be possible to talk to yourself while awake and maybe heard some answers in your own voice, but you will never be sure that's really your SC... The more believable contact would be in a dream. Last time I spoke to a DC in a dream he shed some light on the issue but what he said totally boggles my mind. Pretty much the DC expressed an interesting thought - subconscious mind rejects contact in order to preserve itself cause the conscious mind would certainly want to "usurp" some of the subconscious minds powers. Of course this is my interpretatio of this thought.
Wikipedia - Unconscious mindIt should additionally be emphasized that there aren't "exact" definitions of these terms (psychoanalysis, it seems, is far from an "exact science"), but there are more widely accepted definitions .Quote:
Probably the most detailed and precise of the various notions of 'unconscious mind' - and the one which most people will immediately think of upon hearing the term - is that developed by Sigmund Freud and his followers, and which lies at the heart of psychoanalysis. It should be stressed, incidentally, that the popular term 'subconscious' is not a Freudian coinage and is never used in serious psychoanalytic writings.
Freud's concept was a more subtle and complex psychological theory than many. Consciousness, in Freud's topographical view (which was his first of several psychological models of the mind) was a relatively thin perceptual aspect of the mind, whereas the subconscious (frequently misused and confused with the unconscious) was that merely autonomic function of the brain. The unconscious was indeed considered by Freud throughout the evolution of his psychoanalytic theory a sentient force of will influenced by human drive and yet operating well below the perceptual conscious mind. Hidden, like the man behind the curtain in the "Wizard of Oz," the unconscious directs the thoughts and feelings of everyone, according to Freud.[/b]
Wonderfull Topic. And I've found this: http://www.robertpeterson.org/chap10.html to be a wonderfull read.
I've been trying to get more in tuch with my Subconcious, true self for a longer period of time. Mainly with Meditation.
That Article was truely a revelation to me. I've had such Inner Dialogs ( No one is crazy here, everyone has inner Struggles and Dialogs )
I would love to read about people's personal technique's to get in touch with and create a better understanding of the Subconcious Mind.
Thanks for the link http://www.robertpeterson.org/chap10.html SKA :?
People argue that their is no subconscious. Well do to the fact that the conscious mind itself is so complex it is only natural to sub categorize such an issue.
Is there technically subconscious, I don't know. But it obviously makes discussing the topic more fluent and more easily put into context.
So until they can truly define consciousness itself.........................................let the abstract nature of the subconscious be marveled over. :)
Very interesting topic indeed with some very interesting responses and I must say out of all the examples and some Theoretical gestures I agree with Howetzer's response. The unconscious could show relation to perhaps a gut feeling or just a sense of intuitive capabilities. As for the Subconscious I've always saw this as extraordinary power without true direction. When placed in the dream world where the subconscious is very much the for-front of our dreams - (non lucid or course) This is where the subconscious tends to try to communicate information to the conscious mind usually events that we may have experienced but with no means of relating this information to the point where the conscious mind can understand it. It's almost like a broken language. This is why the majority of information in regular dreaming is absurd
It is fascinating.
Does it not seem like there has to be (or should) be some frequency, channel or link that we could connect more readily with our subconscious and it's abstract thought process.
I realize there is meditation, lucid dreams, yoga and others. But again.... At some point I can't help but think we may break this barrier and open up an entire can of new and revolutionary thoughts and ideas.
Maybe it is a pipe dream. :P
But maybe it is not. :bigteeth:
You know, maybe you could talk to your subconcious in a lucid dream or talk to your dream guide, and ask if there's an esier way to communicate with it. Any how, some one should try what Robert Peterson did. I think it's awesome.
