Yes it is possible but you have lighter sleep which makes you more tired in the morning and yes it is bad for you because it makes you act out your dreams. A while back i used to take caffeine before bed (chocolate, coffee) and i would be spitting in a dream and wake up spitting, talking in a dream and wake up talking, and if i was fighting in a dream i would often wake up with a swollen face or bed sheets, pillows, quilt covers all scattered across my room.
So i wouldn't advise this.
But isn't there caffine in most night-time beverages?
Hey there,
The thing to remember with all these 'aids' is that while they may or may not work when you start using them, the body (and mind) is likely to adapt after a while. You build up a tolerance towards whatever it is you're taking, meaning you have to ingest it in larger and larger doses for it to still have an effect.
So yeah, it may work for a while, but I doubt you'll get long term results out of it. Personally I think you're better of focussing on the long term then trying short term shortcuts. Although it might be interesting to try out once or twice, especially if you've never had a lucid dream, just to find out what it's all about.
Just my 2 sleepycents,

Certainly possible, but I would think the caffiene would keep you up as opposed to making you lucid... perhaps if you take it early morning?
Maybe that would make you more aware during the critical REM period.
