Don't give up mate - but don't try to hard or force the matter. Simply accept that one day you WILL have a Lucid Dream. It's a phenomenal experience. The sleeep paralysis experience you had is a landmark experience. Most people don't have or fear them - it is us oneironauts whose nocturnal practices pave the way to such experiences and we eventually rewarded with the fruits of such practice - LUCIDITY.
Donl't allow yourself to have any negative thoughts as the subconscious mind finds it far easier to manifest negative results - they simply take less effort to produce.
Repeat some positive affirmations to yourself as your fall asleep - and then, forget the WILD and MILD methods. Just simply enjoy sleep for a few nights without 'trying'.
Then, when you have broken free of the negative loop you will be in a better state of readiness and your subconscious will assist rather than hinder your desired goal.
Good Luck.
