Brahms said that he would get himself into a state of consciousness between awake and sleep, where his music would come to him in hypnagogic imagery, where the piece was fully composed. If he could capture the simple theme, then within that theme was the seed of the entire work; he just had to water it and let it grow. Sounds like he played with the WILD form of Lucid Dreaming a bit.

Most of the claims people are making seem to be spurious, I couldn't find any evidence for most of the names mentioned being lucid dreamers.
