lucid dream or ... ?

Hello,

I am new here :D and I thought that this would be the best place to tell my experience and ask: was this a lucid dream? Was it a precursor to an OBE? How can I foster this kind of experience if it happens again? What did the birds mean? Any ideas are welcome.

Here’s what occurred:

It was a sunny afternoon and I was napping on the couch with my left side down with my eyes facing the back of the couch and my head resting on a small pillow. As I fell asleep I was overcome by a buzzing sensation in my body that also manifested itself as a buzzing sound in my ears. As I became aware of the buzzing, my body became paralyzed. Aware of what was happening I opened my eyes and tried to move and even scream, but I couldn’t. I was a bit scared. I was able to look around and I could see the couch in front of my eyes, my feet resting at the end of the couch, and the sun shinning in the room. As I was observing the scene and trying unsuccessfully to move a small sparrow suddenly flew out of the kitchen (which is around the corner from the end of the couch by my feet) and around behind me and landed on the arm of the couch behind my head. I could hear its wings moving through the air as it settled there. After this I continued to try and move as I was getting a bit panicky. All the while everything I could see was just as if I was awake. After what seemed like a short time I saw two more sparrows fly out of the kitchen around behind me to land again in the same spot as the first, on the arm of the couch just behind the top of my head. After a great struggle (again, I was scared and did not know what to do) I was able to ‘wake’ myself and actually move. At this point I was really awake in terms of daily life. Of course I looked for the sparrows, but there was nothing there.

whoa... thats just a freaky experience man.... I think what happened is that you were almost into the actual WILD and you were about to start dreaming,
(which is coincidentally the period where you expericence the most vivid HI) but you messed it up by opening your eyes, but you couldnt get out of the paralysys because u were so deep into it. The birds were probably just really really vivid HI. The only other explanation i can think of is that you actually started dreaming and saw the sparrows in the dream. If u werent doing either then u just had a really weird experience.
as for if it was lucid or not, i dont think it was because you either didnt really enter the dream or you were having a normal dream.

thanks for the response... since i am new to this can you point me in the direction of the definitions of 'WILD' and 'vivid HI'?

HI: hypnotic imagery
WILD: wake induced lucid dreaming, it can be attempted at the moment of sleep, though harder to do

"vivid hi" is just really vivid images, lol

Actually HI = hypnogogic imagery (hallucinations)

lol it kinda sounds like as if u wer drugged that nite or sumtin. that must be really wierd though :o
