A brief history of exploration
I think one of our reasons for existence is exploration of existence itself. It began with us exploring our own planet and our senses with which we experience those things around us. We explored land, then sea, then air and finally space. I think the evolution in exploration that we've been at for a while now is studying the stars from afar (furthest outward point) and likewise studying the mind from afar (furthest inward point) and also pondering the possibility of spirit, or existing not in this material form - perhaps energy without matter.
Now what we're seeing lately is people actually studying space from space itself, going into space and exploring it, and also people actually going into mind itself and exploring it. This is what we are doing when we lucid dream. Exploring mind from within itself. Experiencing actually being inside our own mind. This is really exciting to me. We are like the inverse of astronauts. We also require training, which requires a good deal of time for most, and the controls are pretty tough to learn. To a beginner they often look overwhelming - like the controls on a spaceship to someone who has never actually been in one before. Maybe heard things from other people and seen pictures of the controls.
I often wonder if the furthest point inward is also the furthest point outward.
Perhaps each of our minds is like a galaxy. And there is distance between these galaxies just as there are in the physical universe. And maybe one can learn to sort of quantum leap it's entire galaxy to another person's galaxy. Sort of overlay them. And planets don't collide, they just combin when they crash into other planets. These planets are ideas. You exchange ideas with people. Or sometimes it's just subconscious, learned behavior. But when we do this, overlay our galaxies with another's, we actually change. Thus the people you are around have an effect on the very essence of who you are. So this is the reflection of those inward changes outwardly - in the physical universe.
But if we inward explorers can take enough control of our own galaxy to consciously make this shift and overlay ourselves with another's inward galaxy - perhaps this is how we contact people in dreams. And if both are conscious (both people are having lucid dreams) then your galaxies are combined and the two of you can explore together the possibilities and combinations of all of both your thoughts and memories and such (that is, all the information in your mind - your inward galaxy).
So what we need to do now is find a way to take such control. I have heard of people doing it on accident and even some doing it at will several times, but there must be a way to learn to do it at will every time. In the physical universe, we have explored enough to understand what in fact everything is made of and how things are the way they are - even to the point of atoms and quarks, gravity, electricity, magnetism. In the physical world, these things are physical obviously. But in the world of mind these can be but thoughts. Believe that something works the way it does and it does. I have flown many times, walked through glass and walls, put my hand through furniture, etc. These experiences were not based on laws, but in fact the opposite of laws - simple faith.
So it seems logical that if we use physical laws to invent forms of transportation and communication in the physical world, it should be much simpler in the dream world - we should be able to just imagine some means of transportation or communication and use it to get to or contact others. Perhaps we imagine a phone on the wall behind us, turn around and there it is. Then we imagine that we will be able to use that phone to contact someone in particular. If we have faith strong enough I believe that phone will ring in the other's dream.
Now here's an even more interesting proposal - that if we have faith strong enough, a phone will ring in the physical universe. Now one more - that if we have faith strong enough, we could pick up any phone in the physical universe, dial any number of our own choosing, and the phone would ring in someone else's dream.
