Right, so if there is one thing I HATE doing in the middle of the night, it's waking up.
So my question is this...what techniques are there that I can try that wouldn't require me to wake up sometime after I've fallen asleep until my body feels like it actually needs to get up?
I believe there is the DILD technique where you just lay still right when you wake up, right?
What else is there I can try?
Do you wake up briefly in the night? If you do you can take advantage of that window and 'insert' your reality check inside. It's not proven but I think there is a possiblility a window of suggestability exists when you wake up after a dream. So the minute you find/feel yourself awake is to do a reality check and go back to sleep but reaction speed is critical as you wait too long to execute the Rc the window closes as you are more awake, it has worked a few times for me. An action like this does affect dream recall so you have to sacrifice the first REM periods to get the LD on later REMs. Chances are the later it gets the more difficult to do the RC fast and that difficulty creates the LD....I can't really say Y but that's how I think it works also.
Another way is used when you are getting ready to sleep. You can use a timed cue to signal you to RC. It can be anything but has to be timed like half an hour apart...a light or something that goes off and upon seeing that you do an RC. You leave the device that cues you to RC on and also you doing the RC. You will fall asleep with the intent of RCing when the cue goes off. In the dream it may or may not be the same cue but the memory of RCing will be there. Also worked afew times for me.

I'm pretty sure DILD and MILD don't require you to wake up during the night.
However, even few second-long awakenings during the night (which probably happen to you but you are unaware of them) are perfect for DEILD.
I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night after having a dream. But this doesn't always happen. And it doesn't really bother me much either.
Also, what are some ways to over-come the fear of sleeping in the dark? I always have my TV on when I go to sleep, but I read that lights can cause problems when sleeping. When I roll over and face the TV with my eyes closed, I see the light from the TV and turn the other way, as I don't like the light in my face, but I have issues sleeping with the TV off...I'm not sure why though.
Just keep a light on. My desk has a fluorescent lamp that I keep on when I sleep, and I have NO problems sleeping!
