Actually, when I was experiencing my first lucids (probably 1-10) I would get a very characteristic "shudder", as though my dream were shivering like the back of an animal when a fly lands on it. The dream would shiver, then stabilize, and then I'd either continue the dream or wake up.
Now the only characteristic thing that happens is that I often start laughing at myself for taking so long to realize that I was in a dream. :tongue:
Basically I feel like I woke up, and everything around is me is vivider.
It usually begins with some really intense buzzing in my head, like someone is holding a lightsaber up to my ears :)
If I remain calm while that's happening, I typically drift into a lucid dream
Its so hard to explain i find. Basically i also wake up sort of, but its more
like becoming conscious that im drifting into sleep....but not dreaming. I
can then keep myself in the conscious, falling asleep stage, which sort of
feels like your leg does when its asleep but my whole body feels like that.
My eyes are open and everything is fuzzy. I have to get myself out of that
fuzzy, tingly stage, and what i do is sort of push out of my body. Not literally
but dreaming this. I always start this way. It takes about a split second
to push out and float above my body or stand on the floor. Now the lucid
state is vivid and i just fly somewhere and do whatever i feel like doing.
That might sound strange to some ppl, but i totally know what youre saying.
Me? Nothing... everything is the same, other than me knowing its a dream its normal lol
for my its like my vision sharpens and focuses.
I remember getting a fuzz above my eyebrows in a few lucids also.
The first time i went in to lucid mode it was a DILD and i was at the part where i just realized that i was dreaming. That's when everything just went black and i heard voice saying "are you sure you are dreaming" i replied with a "yes". Then the voice asked me where i wanted to go and i said "a beach" then poof i was at a beach.
Now when i enter lucid mode i get the "shift" do a reality check and walk out my bedroom door.
I usually just get so bored, amazingly. I usually can't think of anything to do, so I just either let go of control or see if I can wake up to read a book or watch TV, which has lead to many false awakenings.
But that's like saying backing out of your driveway is the same as driving on the highway. It's not, it's just the way that you get from one to the other. You go through SP every time you go to sleep. Sometimes you can use it to LD, mostly you pass on into unconsciousness. SP and LDing are not the same thing.
Well what im saying is that sometimes ill wake up while being in SP. Or I
should say im conscious of being in SP, because you are obviously still
asleep. So then because i know im still sleeping, but im conscious of it....
ill sort of push myself out of the SP body and start LDing. I know exactly
what im doing and whats going on. To me its always an ideal way to
start an LD because i know im lucid, but dreaming. It rarely happens but
when it does, i always use this state to start a LD.
This is something i had a chance to think about last night. Youre completely
right! Last night i started to become lucid but I realized right away i was
too close to waking up if i tried to do anything. What i did notice tho was
while i was lucid for a few seconds. I could see the pattern of my blanket
which was kind of up around my face.....absolutely perfectly! Just as if the
light were on but, it was pitch black in that room at the time. I knew i was
lucid and i thought, oh good here we go, but i didnt move (dream move)
because i knew i wasnt far enough into sleep yet and that id wake right up.
So i thought id try to go a little deeper first...............but then fell asleep! :?
I had just gone to bed when this happened. I always start a LD from minutes
after i hit the pillow (when they do happen). I bet only 2 or 3 minutes had
gone by when i realized i was lucid, and i was thinking about it at the time.
I was thinking that....I know im lucid because i can see the blanket vividly,
and was thinking that i also knew that the room was pitch black and
that my eyes were also closed at the time. Its too bad that i fell asleep
after this because i was also thinking of how i was going to be in two places
at one time, once I got going. The damned thinking process put me to sleep
tho....I should have just been concentrating on the blanket and waiting for
the LD to be strong enough to leave my body. Think about stuff later while
youre in it. lol
Well you are incorrect, you are not obviously still asleep every single time that you are experiencing SP. It is pretty common to be awake and be experiencing SP.... But yes, the reason people focus on achieving SP when WILDing is because you have to be in SP to fall asleep and begin dreaming, and tons of people know to use this technique to become lucid. They are still not the same thing. One is simply able to serve as a precursor to the other, if you are able to WILD.
What?? How can you be completely awake while in SP?? If you were awake then youd
be able to move. The reason you cant move or even talk is because youre
really still in a sleeping stage. Usually when you find yourself in SP you
have to concentrate to completely wake up so that you can move. To me
all it is is that you are waking up while youre still in SP. It happens to me
a lot when i fall asleep with the tv on, then the noise will wake me up when
its not entirely an opportune time to wake up, and im still in SP. I always
then have to concentrate to wake myself up fully.....or slip into a LD.
I didn't say it was a lucid dream. I believe the thread is asking what do you experience prior to drifting into a lucid dream
I've been "lucid dreaming" my entire life and am not up on all the terminology. I've only lately found out that what I've been doing has a name. But if you're the word master, then I'm happy to concede the point that before entering a lucid dream I typically experience sleep paralysis
Yes, it is true you can be awake whilst in SP.
Ah well he asked "go into lucid mode" so I assumed he meant the exact moment of realizing lucidity, or "entering" a dream via WILD.
Well, if you are going to be communicating with others on a website dedicated to lucid dreaming, you ought to know the basic terminology and vernacular to avoid such confusion. I'm not the word master, all of these are defined and available on many different pages about the site to try to keep everyone on the same bar. Not my fault if you don't do your reading. ;)
Thats what im saying!! Youre in between! If youre conscious of it, then youre in between
wakefulness and sleeping! And its ideal for slipping into a lucid dream. I do it
all the time, so, its true! Believe it or not. :)
btw you guys said that you go into SP every night as well....so if you do, then you
must be totally asleep at times, because i sure as hell dont notice SP every single
night.....

There are a few exceptions, but for the majority of people...
Your body goes into REM atonia every time that you fall asleep so that you don't act out your dreams.
Sometimes you can keep your brain awake and conscious and experience going through it, in which case you are awake and experiencing SP. Sometimes you can even wait it out and start dreaming while your mind is awake. Hence, WILD. WAKE initiated lucid dream.
Sometimes you wake up, and your body is still in SP. It's the disconnect between your sleeping body and awake mind. Where ever it is that you want to cut that thin line between consciousness, awake, and asleep, whatever. Think about it: you have brief awakenings about 8 times a night. Now multiply that by 365 and then your current age. This is roughly how many times you have gone through SP. How many times do you remember it? That's because your mind was awake and your body mistakenly "thought" that you were asleep. The rest of them you were asleep already. This is what most people experience most of the time, except for a few oddball cases, and people who meditate and LD or whatever reason they sit around keeping their minds awake while their bodies fall asleep.
Everyone does it all the time, it's not hard to believe, and you are not special in any way. Believe it or not.
