I mean what if you ask the dream charecter if you can have sex with them and they say YES?

Shawndow :goodjob2: !
I assume that is what you do in your waking life also. Since you are not in prison, I guess you don't go around raping people!
If it is within your ethos to have consentual sex in this reality and you are asking permission in your dreams then you have not violated your honor.
However, if you believe it is wrong to have sex before marriage and you are doing it with permission in your dreams to get around your ethics then you have violated your honor.
I used to have sex in my dreams, but now am celebate most of the time. Point of honor for me. It is too much like cheating.
EDIT: However, I will have sex with my wife in dreams!
But that's not really your wife! :-PQuote:

Shawndow,
Well, if it's love, then wear yourself out! :)
Hope you meet the girl of your dreams tonight, but remember she will be your wife.
That limits your options both in the dream world and the waking world.
Man I'm glad someone finally showed up today, it's been DEAD here

1 word: Smooth
now that's somthing i got to thank about. I dont think im ready to commit yet.
Yeh it has been dead around here today
PS: You win this time seeker, but will meet again....yes will meet again
I've had dreams where I know I have cheated on my girlfriend, and I feel the guilt and I think; thank god I that wasn't real. But I really do learn lessons from my dreams.
I can make mistakes in my dreams and learn from them in the waking world. I would never cheat on my girlfriend; especially when I've experienced what it feels like in a dream.
Yeh but if its a LD you have no exscuse
yes you do. if its a LD then you know it's a dream, ergo you know its not real. that's like saying that if i go on a killing spree in a video game that makes me a killer. these are private thoughts that you keep as your own. i know the line between good and evil is blurry but what you do in your dreams doesn't effect anyone but yourself. if you cant live with it, don't do it. if you do something you regret, amend it. but don't carry over societies rules into your dreams or you'll never be free.Quote:

These ethical questions are very hard to answer, and need to be thought clearly out by every Lucid Dreamer.
Sometimes people feel no guilt when sexually engaging a DC(dream character) because they might 'ask them permission' but it MIGHT SO BE that you are manipulating their own free will as a dream character. [and this is based on the theory that the dream world is another reality]
If it is so another reality, honor is just as important here as it is there; so where to draw an ethical line is appropriate concerning not only sexual preferences and wants, but other issues.

You guys are into interesting territory now.
The mind just IS.
This is true whether you are awake, in an LD, or in another reality.
My ethos follows my mind, whereever it might travel to. But that is just me. It is up to all of you to develop your own ethos and then follow it.
That is true honor!
Yes Yes, seeker will meet again.
My friend, please leave your coat hangers behind this time ;)Quote:

Concerning sex.
When its consentual dream or here, go for it...
If you are with somone, in either reality... it is kinda disrespectful of your mate.
Concerning battle.
The true warrior ends the battle before the sword is drawn.
Taking life is inexcusable unless you, yourself are being threatend...
And more importantly if those that you love and care for are being threatened, and not threatened with bang snaps... their lives are in danger. Somteimes its hard though, do you immobilise our oppenent? rending them helpless but not killing them? Do you take that chance? Will they come back with vengence in their heart? So do you instead kill them? to be done with it? Or will you know that you will still stand by your friends and family and be there when this enemy returns, what if your not there?
When you tell somone that you will always be there for them... most of the time, its already too late, if you are not by their side are you truely there for them? You can promise your service to them tell them that if in need they have but to call, but if you were truely there, they would not have had to call would they...
It sucks having to be far from those you love...
All I have to say... is be true to yourself.
If you do acts in your dream that you would not normaly do in life, which then is the true you? are you that murderous raping fiend?
Or are you the quiet person that just thinks it?
Or are you the one that helps those in need.
But here you just watch and dont lift a hand...
I realise that in my experience my first though it to help people... but I am thwarted by my own inaction and do nothing...
I could have done a simple thing to help another yesterday but I did not. I just went on my way... I wonder why I did not help them, I had nothing to do... and it actually kind of pissed me off... I myself have become part of the Turning away... and have decided right now, that its over, I will do my best to follow those instincts. Im tired of being a man of inaction.
I wasn't talking about the fighting being honourable, i was talking about showing mercy/compassion towards others, but fighting was the only example that came to mind.Quote:

I started taking a look at myself the other day and realised that i have tendancies to be inactive when it comes to helping others as well. There are so many people that will not even lift a finger to help others. For example, one time when i was in the car on the way home one day i saw a girl riding her bike and she put a wheel at the wrong angle and fell off. She looked like she was having trouble, i think she hurt her knee or something. Just after she fell off and was still on the ground, two guys who were walking by just looked at her as they walked past and didn't try to help her back up. I thought that was a bastard thing to do, luckily and older man and woman helped her up and made sure everything was alright.
I mean i would have tried to help and i think a lot of the people here would have too. I think we all probably dont do enough to help people. I mean I'm no good samaritan, i've not helped many people and regretted it. I should follow my instincts to help others as well.
Ok since this thread is based around ethics in dreams, I have a question to pose. What about suicide, or at least the act preceding death in suicide? I've been thinking about some of the things I'd like to do, and I would like to commit seppuku, which is ritualistic disembowelment. And is it possible to convince a character, in a lucid dream, to become your Kaishaku-nin, even if you believe it's against that character's morals? A Kaishaku-nin is someone who beheads you at your signal during seppuku. So...can you kill yourself in a lucid dream?
Chris.
thats a sensitive question. suicide is really messed up in my book.
an old girlfriend walked in on her mother just as she pulled the trigger of a shotgun that was in her mouth...
and friend walked in his living room only to find his mother swinging from the ceiling...
i dont like it one bit. but i wont judge. if you can live with yourself after you do it, then more power to you.
WOW! :holycrap:Quote:

I've lost three family members to suicide in the past five years :(
Some say there is a genetic predisposition to it in some families. I don't even want to try it, since there have been many times I have stood looking over the edge of the abyss....
One of the things that holds me back is knowing (first hand) the havoc it wrecks with a family. Strong emotions all conflicting:
Loss/Hearbreak/Anger/Betrayal/Hatered.
Not only is suicide insane it's downright wrong. I'm not saying I haven't considered it... I think many if not all people consider it at least once in their lifetime (due to the delusion of despair), but life is too much of an awesome and precious thing! The manner of death in seppuku is also one of the most degrading ways in which to die and is usually done to someone who has been dishonorable (if I remember correctly). You can talk about honor and retribution in death all you want -it's still a sick and asinine ritual in my book.Quote:

Considering that dreams are such a vast and unexplored field, why set a boundaries in it?
Ethics, morality, and consequence for actions/thoughts still apply in the dream realm, though they appear to be unchecked or inconsequential right now. And when it concerns murder... why NOT set boundaries?
Ethics is such a difficult topic :)
As i know for myself - there is always a choice in a dream.
few days ago i had a dream with a teacher(guide) in
it. Suddenly teacher turned into a demon and asked if I'll become his
allie/minion. Few variants of reply swirled through my head. One had a
totally holy feeling to it, it was a pretty long monologue, concerning 'not
betraying your beliefs. and will to fight evil in any form.' Strange. I said it,
in a heavenly and holy voice.
another reply was pretty long as well and had
a demonic feeling and i felt red smoke coming out of it.
And i said it in a very tricky and deceiving voice: " Yes, I will serve you
master since I feel great power within you..."
there was a third line, which had no feeling in it, and i said it in a normal
voice - why should i join you?
This dream was weird, but i felt ALL sides. And when i said this things I really meant what i said... It leaves me confused - what I've chosen?
