yeah really sad story. The levels of ignorance around LD's is amazing. Though I bet if I were in a budhist country taking about LD's to ppl would be easier since they invented them more or less and then Laberge took some of that and made it "practical". It all comes down to the fact that the laity considers dreaming something vague and uncontrollable, so when we talk about it like "It's something major" they just don't get it based upon their experience and thus thinks we are dressing up some regular dreams.

Hmm I've just thought of a tactic about in introducing LD's to people. Instead of just announcing you can LD, how about talking the novadreamer- sure we know it's completly unnecessary for LD's, however it's very well advertised- in fact I found out about LD's when several years back my computer science teacher brought in info about it- I never bought it but I was very intrigued by the advertisement. So, how about giving people the same thing to read, about all the "endless possibilities", and act like you are discovering this with them, and then a few days later say you have had a lucid dream and don't need that device and that you found a forum for it. Hmm now that I've said it sounds too forced, and I am not going to try it- I am satisfied just being able to come here and also having a friend in RL who semi-believes in LD's, o well...

hmm, well, some believe that when you dream, you act out the scene on the astral plane and then it downloads into your brain which is why you don't remember the dream sometimes :) Its quite possible, but, can't be proven at all :P

I SO know where you are coming from. I had a terrible time, and I still suffer from it occassionally, about believing that the people in my dreams are either REAL as in if I dream about a tv or book character that character is real and exsists outside myself, or evil spirits in disguise trying to tempt me to do something bad like sign my soul away or whatever.

I have to keep reminding myself they are NOT real and it is all in my brain. I seem to cycle back and forth.

Whatever. Sorry if I posted off topic but I think it is not really off topic since this is one of the things you deal with when talking about your dreams to people AND possible reasons why people react to you the way they do when you do mention it.

Please.

You don't remember the dream sometimes because some parts of your brain are not fully functioning or paying attention. It happens in reality also when you get up to do something and can't recall what it was you wanted to do.

Paying attention is the key.

But, I am very lazy :-)

This is a picture that I shared in another thread that I started about working out and zoning out and then started talking about meditation and such:

This picture shows what happens during meditation and how the brain becomes very, very quiet. I don't know for certain, but I think the brain does the same during at least some stages of sleep. So it is no wonder we don't recall dreams a lot and have to concentrate and cultivate the skill.

I don't get why people are not interested in LDing, but when I talk about it with people who do not Lucid dream I never say the word lucid. Because it sounds new ageish and they look at you like your crazy. I say "a dream where you realize that your dreaming and able to control it" then everybody knows what you are talking about.

What I find the hardest, is talking about the feelings. I mean, I'll tell someone I got run over by millions of mice and that it felt so vivid and they wouldn't care. If someone got run over by millions of mice in real life, then they'd be interested in knowing how it felt and blah blah blah even though it was the same. I can still remember. i was lucid and I saw all the mice coming after me so I lied down and closed my eyes thinking nothing would happen but I felt them. I was excited when I woke up. I tried telling everyone but they were like "whatever"... I mean, just walking in a random hallway in a lucid dream makes me feel so good because how vivid it is. I feel so good because I find it extraordinary that my body is on my bed but that I am walking in a hallway and that I can feel it and see it and smell an odour in it (if there is any) and that I could just take a piece of the wall and eat and taste it. And what amases me is that its my brain creating it all. I'll tell someone I walked in that hallway and tasted a piece of the wall and it tasted like cake and they'd listen not getting what's special with it. I wish there reaction would be "Cool! I wish I could dream about a house and eat it all! That'd be so effin awesome!... And tasty!" rather than "Get over it, man. It was a dream. Everyone can walk in a hallway and eat a piece of the wall in a dream. It's normal and... oh, what's the homework for geography?"

I understand what you mean perfectly! In my last lucid (4th by the moment) I managed to fly float and to pass trough a wall. The pure emotion of that leaves me amazed. Yeah, I know the feeling of flying and jumping through a wall (A dirty bus's wall to be precise) and I've tried telling people but just couldn't.

I can't chose wether I want everyone to lucid dream or if not. i like the fact that dreams are not done by everyone 'cause it makes me feel special and unique and its the only thing I can brag about being better than everyone (i know) however I can't brag about it (I can only brag about remembering more dreams than anyone) but I don't, i just kinda show it and people try to ignore it... but I mean, it kills me not to be able to talk about it. People are so spectic about it. I wish everyone knew about lucid dreams but not lots of people would do it because they would be to lazy that way, we'd be special but we'd be able to talk about it...

yeah I totally understand, in a way it's sad, but the question comes down to having something valuable that you can't share with your friends/family versus not having it at all, seeing how awesome LD-ing is no way I'd give it up.

Well I have friends that knew that i LD, but they have probably already forgotten about it... What a waste, really... I have had a big pause in Lucid Dreaming, and gotta get to it again... Some good things that really help luciding AND your daily life as well are physical exercise and concentration practises like meditation... Meditation helps you stay conscious... Which you aren't sometime even when you think you are awake... If you don't get it just think about day dreaming, we get lost in our thoughts and stuff, thus we are not aware of what happens "here and now". Just thought It would be nice to say some things here beside a short review on my friends :D Get Lucid

No.! I'd never give up LDs just because I can't share them with other poeple. I get what you mean. I'm (we are all) so lucky to know and understand LDs which are the best thing to my opinion. I've wondered what I'd have trade finding about lucid dreaming for and I couldn't find anything. i couldn't see my life without lucid dreaming. Lucid Dreams gave me the joy of living. It made me see life so differently (without making me religious or a believer of anything). It just made me more aware. It sorta annoys me I can't really share that amazing (most amazing) part of my life with people I know and that they could understand... But I appreciate it like this anyways. wouldn't give up lucid dreaming for nothing. There's only something that could stop me from lucid dreaming and its lazyness. i've always had trouble concentrating but I feel as if dreams can help me destroy that bad habbit of mine.

I know exactly what you mean. I've realised that why we don't remember our dreams or if we don't really realised the strangeness of our dreams is because we act like in our real life... Sort of unconscious/ unaware of our surrondings, what we're doing. That's why sometimes we go upstairs and then wonder what we were about to do or when we are thinking about something and then we talk to someone and then we can't remember what we've been thinking about before. I've been trying to stop day dreaming in the bus or anywhere now. It's really hard for me because I've been living all my life in day dreams before. I mean,, almost litarly. I'd always day dream. Whenever I was in a car or a mean of transportation, whenever I was under the shower (I could be having a shower for thirty minutes whitout moving, under hot pouring water day dreaming and my parents would have to talk me out of the shower 'cause all the water I used was a fortune. I'd daydream in class, as I waited, as I walked, as I did normal daily things. i wasn't present and now... I can see how unconscious I've been all my life. Living without taking aknowledgement of my surrundings. A dancing lion could have walked beside me and I wouldn't have noticed... That could have been dangerous (not about the dancing lion but I mean... It could be a car driving over me as I walk down the road... or something else) Inattention can be really dangerous. But also, I feel special now that i'm more aware. I've become quicker and I could relate a conversation I'm hearing (without anyone knowing I'm listening) to something I've heard or saw sooner. I'm not the kinda gossip person but I mean... I'm more aware of what's happening and I can connect things easier than normal people, than the normal person I use to be and still am, but I'm improving.

That's something people that decline lucid dreams don't realise. i feel like everyone that denies lucid dreaming will always be blind. Concentrated on whatever there doing or just laid back in their day dream but blind to their surrundings and other important things. Dreams have made me see my surrundings in a total different way.

It's not the people not wanting to lucid dream that "bothers me" it's the people that take relatively no interest when I talk to them about it. After I tell them an experience I've had, I don't expect them to go out and want to do it...but at least listen to what I have to say. It really confused me that people would not even take a slight interest in the concept of lucid dreaming.

You ask a person what they would do if they coudl do anything in the world....they reply with their aspirations, you explain what you would do, and the conversation ends. You bring up Lucid Dreaming and tell them that they can indeed do what they wish, it turns into a dead end.

I blame it on narrow minded individuals. In my area, at least. I find myself to be the only "thinker" in my school.

i think its because a lot of people are closed minded :( sucks i know. but their loss haha! also the fact that a lot of people wouldnt believe it. Its also a secret of mine too :P my parents would think im crazy if i tried to explain lucid dreaming to them ~_~ my mom always tells me she doesn't "dream" anymore an when i told her she does, she just dosent remember her dreams...she didnt believe me...>sigh< actually i have a friend who lucid dreams every night without knowing what its actually called, plus that it wasnt ever the norm for people because she never told anyone.~_~ she thought it was normal an when all of us were like "noooooo i cant control my dreams?" she was all surprised! damnit. i wish i had natural skillz like that T^T so i have a "dream" buddy (her) i go to if i wanna talk to someone about it >.<

we have discussions about it once and awhile in one of my classes. it's awesome to be able to talk to people about it irl.

I think the "others" are idiots. When I told a friend about me having an lucid dream, he looked at me like I am from another planet. Like trying to make your own little world in a conscious lucid dream is incredibly bizarre/strange. I mean come on! It's not like trying to shoot lasers through your eyes, it's just manipulating your brain!

But meanwhile I care less and less, and I think you should maybe see it like you are having something special that nobody has. I mean if everybody would be able to lucid dream, it wouldn't be so..well.. interesting maybe.

Alltough I have to stress that in MY opinion many problems could be solved if more people were thought to lucid dream. Just think of all the psychopaths who could act out their sick fantasies in their dreams, or people who take drugs would stop that and flee from reality in the night. Apart from that it is just great fun and I think there is nothing else that teaches you so much about yourself and also about our mind, which is clearly one of the most unexplored parts of science.

Sometimes I even think it would not be wrong if lucid dreaming was thought in school, I mean, noone ever told me about it, not a damn word. At least my bioligy teacher could have mentioned it shortly, just in one damn sentence^^. But they never do and for me personally it changed my life more than to know the different enzymes in a cell of my index finger.

Actually... The worst part is that you try talking about lucid dreams and then their like "I don't care! It's not real" but then they start talking about a video game.... In my head I'm thinking "I don't care" but at least I respect them and listen... I find it stupid to find video games better than lucid dreams... And say that lucid dreams aren't real! In lucid Dreams you can See, hear, touch/feel, smell and taste. in a video game you can just see (and the graphics aren't always the best) and hear (if you have the volume on)... Video games are in a screen. You actually ARE in the scenery when you lucid dream...

We spend 6 years dreaming. Isn't that enough? Well not enough, since they are so good..! You can never have too much time lucid dreaming. But I also heard some people spent months in dreams but that in real life it was just one night so i guess that advence people could lucid dream as long as they want... and that is more than video games...

The most interesting and unbelievable thing to me is that most people don't even think Lucid Dreaming is real.

There is some things that I think contribute that people don't LD

1. They don't belive in such things they may think ld is some sort of "spiritual thingy" and think they can't change their dreams from auto pilot.

2.They may be afriad I been actually and just now started for real to try get a ld becouse I don't want to miss this and exploring the mind sounds really interesting.

3. It takes comitment and time to do this. But that is rewarding the people who really want to ld insteed of people who just "oh let's try this tonight!"

People don't like the unknown it is that who scares me from ld but now it made me want to explore it. I think that contribute.
They are sceptical that such great thing exist too.

I really like dreams and I like to tell about them but some of my friends are like "you and your dreams" my other friend I can talk about dreaming but he don't have the will to LD he think he dreams enough.
But still they can show a little interest. Today I told about I heard a scream when I woke up and another said: "oh I had that once"

Then another he likes half life and I had a dream about it and then he got interested. :P

I don't remember how I got into lucid dreaming, it's either my friend that introduced me to lucid dreams, or me... it's so blurry in my mind right now.

The thing for sure though, is that we were two, trying to have our LDs.
It was fun since we could share our experiences and stories, being both the students and the teachers at the same time. All the others in the gang were like :shock: as you may imagine, so we only talked about it when we were alone.
This was years ago.

Today, I think I found a girl who is interested in LDs.
She doesn't like Freud, and she's interested in dreams. :boogie:
I told her a little about lucid dreams, and she was like "Wow I wish I could control my dreams this would kick ass!"

She is supposed to do a RC everytime she has a weather-related thought.
We'll see if she's "good enough" to continue and enter our world...
