      it's a secret

ever since i got into lucid dreaming, i kind of kept it a secret simply because i thought if i told anyone they would just look at me like i'm some kind of alien and just be like "ok......... um...... so........ yeah! Anyway!!!".

but i do hear that ppl really do think that lucid dreaming is a wierd hobby they wouldn't bother trying. WHY! i dont get the why part. you can do anything you want in dreams.

i think they are the alien and we are the only normal ppl. i dont know, what do you guys think?

i fessed up to my girlfriend and told her and she thinks its wierd but she still supports my hobby as a lucid dreamer. i just dont freagin get it.

i think all you ppl are wierd aliens (not us lucid dreamers), the outsiders... i guess they just not good enough.

I don't blame them one bit. While I am excited to get an LD, I am just too tired these days to even attempt to WILD or anything else for that matter. People like life the way it is and getting an LD takes time. I mean I read some people took half a year to get one. I was lucky to get an accidential one in a week's time after 2 days of intensive work(1-1.5h/day) followed by a couple of days of relaxation. Anyways, people don't like the unknown and you need practice which puts people off. Look on the bright side, at least your gf supports you

Yeah, I got no support when I told people when I first got interested either. But, I think it is because they are really boringly normal people who think that 'born, grow, fuck, die' like everyone else is all that there is and they buy into that and don't want to really bother with anything else.

Plus, they tend to be not very imaginative and rather stupid people.

I mean, 'reality' sucks compared to dreaming and at least you can say you do that instead of drugs or something bad like that.

I don't mind that people think it's weird. In fact I like it better that way, because it's something special.

I don't really blame the "other" people. Not everyone would even bother to listen someone talk about LD and if they do not everyone will make an effort to have LDs. I feel stupid sometimes when I wanna talk about LDing. I feel I'm gonna get that "um...k" response.

I don't mind that people think that it is wierd, but I wish some of my friends would get into it so I could talk to them about it instead of you internet wierdos.

I wish I had your avatar, hidden. :jealous:

So, just 'LD responsibly' and you'll be fine.
Haha, that could be in a beer comercial.

You know, your post reminds me of "The Silver Key" by H.P. Lovecraft. I'm not into his whole Cthulthu mythos, but his dream stuff is amazing. Something tells me the guy knew about lucid dreaming or wished he could lucid dream without really knowing it was possible. Just read "Ex Oblivione."

Fully agree, makes it all that special if you can have LDs

To me, it seems like they think that we just don't have fun or are depressed in RL so we have to do something in our dreams to have fun. Though there are some depressed people on here, the vast majority are I guess "regular" people that do sports, have jobs, go to school, just like everyone else.

I honestly feel that LDing is more addicting than say marijuana, as it doesn't give you the same effects all the time, and if you want a different effect you won't have to look for a specific 'brand' to do that, you would simply.... Decide. (And not to mention it's not against the law)

And because you need nothing but practice and experience to do this 'drug'. As I am now going to refer to it. As I would like to see if anyone gets angry that I referred to LDing as a 'drug'.

But I digress, because you need nothing but practice, experience, and your mind to do this if you work towards it you will always have the tools to escape.

However; if used by the right mind, for the right reasons, LDing can be a tool for --- knowledge, sense of self, and creativity.

I've yet to meet another person that has lucid dreams.Bizarre shit because I've been having random lucid dreams ever since I was a kid. Maybe its people that are always questioning reality that are the most likely to have spontaneous lucid dreams. I remember clearly last night I wasn't fully sure if I was dreaming or not so I did my usual old test. I tried to fly but these days when I try to fly I have this subconscious KNOWING that I'm gonna do it. If I'm hovering above the ground its hard to have any doubts as to whether or not I'm dreaming.

yeah you guys are right. i did think about that before.

i really am greatful that i took an interest in lucid dreaming becus it seems nobody i know in the real world does. and i feel like everybody who's not interested or thinks is weird, doesn't know what they're missing.

i just dont get why people would be this way.

People want to know these things (even if they don't know they want), the only problem is that some people don't accept well the unknown. If shown the right way, more than half people will want to have lucids.

My trick for not being labeled as a weirdo is to start talking about sleep, and how we sleep one third of our live, and that 6 years of that are dreams. Then talk about how those sleep hours are not productive. At last, I add a
But I know how to make them productive...
And move on with other topics. People wonder, and in few seconds they will ask me:
What did you mean with making sleep hours productive?
At this point they are all yours

Anyway, a person must know who to say this to, because there are "people" and "people".

And I don't care being labeled weirdo too, actually I am labeled weirdo for other stuff instead of lucid dreams

What is real? If you're talking about what you can feel, smell, taste and see, then real are electrical signals interpreted by your brain.
      Free your mind...

I've wondered your question for so long... "Seriously? Why do people are not interested in another life with no limits and consequences?"

But I finally got used to it. Now, I've decided I would respect their opinion even though I still find their choice pretty dumb... I've stopped getting annoyed about it.

What annoys me is that they think your a freak. I mean, Just 'cause I like... Dreams? Just 'cause I keep up with my nocturne life, I'm aparently weird? What's the point of dreaming if what we're SUPPOSED to do is to ignore them? I'm sure we don't randomly dream without any reason. Everything that makes our body is there for a reason (except for body hair XD)

But I've finally got someone interested into Lucid Dreams. We were talking about school and how it was boring and it should teach more interesting stuff so i said "They should teach Lucid Dreaming" And my friend was like "What the hell is a lucid Dream?" so I said "It's when you are conscious in a dream and its THE ONLY WAY to ENJOY a dream" and went on with something else but then he said "It's impossible to be 'conscious' when you are sleeping!" And I replied "Yes its possible! And its called "Lucid Dreaming". Its true, look it up on google." Then i talked a bit about it was and then said he'd probably think it was weird like everyone else but he said he was actually interested and wanted to know how. Finnally a not boring persoN!

The thing is dreaming is a part of yourself you don't know everything about and something you can't evaluate or explore in waking life. If I'm going to do the best in life I can possibly do, I need to investigate every part of my behaviour; including dreaming. I really don't understand people who aren't interested in their dreams, it seems to me like they're giving up on a part of themselves.

That view may be a little extreme reading it back, lol.

Your friend should read LaBerge's Exploring The World Of Lucid Dreaming for all the scientific, non hoo hoo, information that will explain a lot on what is known and how it was proven possible.

It goes down to culture. If you were explaining Lucid Dreaming to Buddhists who live in a collectivist society, they would be interested. In this society, where we generally don't share stuff like that to other people, it's not the cultural norm. It has nothing to do with people being dumb. It's just not expected, and you are probably catching them off guard, when they may actually think it's a really cool concept.

On the otherhand, we also happen to live in a society where not much importance is placed on dreams. We actually hate the morning! We tend to think that sleep is just a dead loss for time.

It would be like explaining and trying to stimulate interest about the Yankees or Red Sox to Buddhist monks.

Unlike most people, when I first started LDing, I told eeeeeeeeeveryone. I didn't think that people would think it was weird... I STILL don't know why everybody thinks it's so outlandish.... I mean, it's incorperated into freaking children's shows and cartoons! You know, the totally unoriginal episode where the main character is having a nightmare, and everyone's like, "It's YOUR dream, you can make go away"... And of course there's the famous expression, "Pinch me, I must be dreaming" (Which, btw, is not a good RC)

What's more, I just don't see what makes them think it's not possible.... It's not that unbelievable of a concept, you know?

But then I started get all those people who think I'm wierd, or can't even understand the concept.... People who go "Umm...........Kay... So anyway, blah blah blah" or "That's...........great.......... Just great..." and people who find it funny that I keep a DJ and such... So now, I just really talk about it with close friends, and Mom. Not so much Dad though, he acts as if I were using tarot cards or reading spellbooks.
What if I told you that I am dreaming right now?
That your whole life is a lie?
That the laws of physics as you know them are incorrect?

Furthermore, what would you do if I told you I'm going to wake up as soon as you finish reading my signature?
