Have you told anyone?

I have told a few people. My brother and a couple of friends. I usually get the same glasd stare as if I'm crazy. LDing seems so natural to me that I thought alot more peple had them. I was suprised that so few people have good dream recall. Dreams have always played a powerful role in my life and I get very excited when I have those really vivid dreams. I feel I want to tell everyone but I know iits better just to bite my lip.

I will give my best friend his due. He tollerates me rattling on about the subject allthough I know he's never had an LD.

i have told most of my friends and most of my immediate family.

a couple of my friends are lucid dreamers themselves and are of course into the subject.

a couple of my friends have been really interested and said they were definitely going to start practicing.

most have not cared at all. i don't understand why.

a few really good friends think it sound's awesome but are probably not going to attempt to have lucid dreams.

my mom thinks its some kind of drug-related escapism or something. this is what i gather anyway.

i will probably end up telling my dad about it someday and he will probably give me a weird look and change the subject or not say anything.

my oldest sister thinks it sounds cool but she "doesn't like dreaming." and "doesn't want to have to do anything extra while sleeping."

my other two sisters are indifferent to the subject.

simply put, not being interested in lucid dreaming is unfathomable to me. i can think only very few things i would realistically like to be able to have/do/be more. :banana:

i have told two people. My friend Josh and my friend John. I told them because i think that they are the most likely not to care and not make fun of me or think im crazy. Josh doesnt really care and doesnt see the significance in Lucid Dream and john doesnt really believe me. I kinda want to tell my girlfriend but im afraid of how she will respond. I dont want her to think im crazy or something. So for now it is basically a secret.

Me and a friend got a lot of our friends into it, but now it's just me and him that stuck with it.

Anyways i use to have Lucid Dreams often, and i even managed to have 1 min dreams everyday until i told a friend of mine who then mentioned it to my parents and they took me to a therapist. I then told him and i went through a hypnosis experiment to REVERT me back to normal :embarrassed: since then i haven't had a lucid dream. However, i realized that i wasnt crazy and Lucid dreams were normal so i tryed having them again and now am back but i still cant manage to have them. SO i am trying to hypnotize myself into having lucids but even then i am not as good as i was before. Even my regular dreams are less vivid..its like i am a zombie an my dreams are barely there. Its sad because i cant even sleep well...:( help

I told to some people, but they didn't seem to understand or to get interested in what I told them.

I think some people are intrested but other people do not understand and think its strange and bascally just do not care about it even tho everyone just about dreams. Were normal not them:banana:

wow dude that's sick. What about finding that therapist or another one and asking him to reverse this? Honestly how could they do that to you??

However remember that whatever the "nazi therapist" did it's still your mind and your subconsciousness. you have the power. keep a dream journal and read it before sleep, drink plenty of milk in the evening and tea at night, say mantras like "I will remember my dreams and they'll be vivid", and practice all sorts of induction techniques. In time, whatever he did to you will loose effect.

That is just insane! there is absolutely nothing wrong with LDing many people do it by accident all the time. As is mentioned above the entire matter really is in your head and with time you will be fine. If you want to go the route of extra material to increase vividness I would recommend 200mg of 5-HTP a day.

And since when did anybody consider lucid dreaming dangerous? There sure aren't any peer review articles on this. I would ask this therapist for "qualifications" you may have been treated by a cowboy practitioner.

wow, thats a lotta crazy in one story blade, cant believe a friend told your parents!

Anyone I tell isn't really interested in lucid dreaming and are just like "Oh...right"

The first time I read about lucid dreaming, I thought it was a supernatural phenomenon, and didn't totally buy into it. Its understandable that most people would feel this way.

I believe that many people who are interested in LDs think there is some supernatural element to it, when really...it's all just in your head (in a good way!)

I have shared my fascination with LDs with many of my friends, but I have always been sure to explain that it is a real phenomenon and can be scientifically explained.

Actually my friend told me he was able to control his dreams sometime, then I did some research about controlling our dream and found this forum, but he's not interested in how to have these dreams and what they are. He just get those and enjoy (I hate him lol).

I told my parents but now they think I'm crazy.

I got the impression that relatively few people who are interested in lucid dreaming think it's something supernatural. People who are serious about it (or are just curious) will soon find out that there's nothing unnatural about it.

Unless you meant that a lot of people who hear about it for the first time are interested because they think it's something supernatural... Although I'm not sure I'd agree with that either.

i told my dad he laughtet and dont believed it..hes like "yeah last night i got a dream with 3 brasil girls but the dog woke me up and i was angry..haha" then i told some friends they did not care much...very strange that the people dont see the possibilities..its like beeing in the matrix..the coolest thing ever...

i told my girlfirend from the beginning of my practise and first she told me thats not possible blahblah but now when i tell her about my approve she starts to believe and maybe try it by herself...

this pretty much sums up the entire thread. Very cool, yet very... now it could be my lamentable knowledge of the english language, but I just have trouble describing that feeling. sad? - in that you can't share the joy with relatives? maybe at least in the beginning, later that goes away. The frustration of not being able to tell anyone? is that it? or "the secret" that's cause ppl think you're weird/nuts and are only able to share in places such as this, and the consequences of having to live your, presumably, entire life this way, hiding your "beliefs", as people of different religions, political opinions and of unconventional sexual orientations have been doing for ages- and just as all of the aforementioned gained at least some form of recognition in at least some parts of the world, our "ways of life" are so alien to the general populous they aren't even aware it exists, so general acceptance is very far off indeed- could be tomorrow that some public figures admit they're LD-ers and educate the masses, or could be generations, or thousands of years (if humanity survives that long), or indeed never.

However, unlike religion/politics/etc, this form of life is not and never will be under threat, and because of the Internet the community of LD-ers will grow and grow, hopefully support groups, nay, bad choice of words, since we do not require support- conventions/gatherings, yeah, that's more appropriate- anyhow meetings/conventions will hopefully begin to take place, in various countries and arranged over the internet, so people can come and share their experiences- no doubt if discovered they might seem cult-like by the media and ridiculed, but what new idea wasn't? then I see public debate, and eventually, hopefully acceptance.
Till then I'll continue to LD and not give a f**k about telling anyone and be just a little more "lucid" then my compatriots :)

I meant the latter, those who hear about it for the first time believing it is supernatural. In my experience, everyone I have shared with thought it was supernatural until I told them its just a way of tricking your own brain 'awake'.

I've only told one friend that I'm recording my dreams, because I can't help but to share them with her!

I don't want to tell anyone about lucidity because I feel like they would think I was twisted for wanting to do something like controlling my dreams.

I almost told my dad a long time ago, then realized I'd rather keep it a special thing and not make it public. If I could get anyone interested in discussing waking in a dream, I'd probably tell them about the induction part. I can see how the resemblance to all the pseudo-spiritual junk out there could definitely put people off though.

I've told most of my closest friends. And most of them don't really seem to "get it".
Except for one of them who actually had a LD the same night I told her about it.. Only, it was sort of a semi-lucid nightmare where she was trapped in a room with transparent walls without any exits, and a psychotic guy was walking around pounding on the walls from the other side. A part of her realized that she was in a dream, but she had no control at all.

It really freaked her out so she told me she never wanted to hear another thing about Lucid dreaming ever again. I tried explaining to her that Lucid dreaming isn't simply knowing that you're dreaming, but also taking control over them. But she just told me to shut up basicly :oops:
