I was thinking a lot last night. I always like to think about DCs. The simple fact is DCs are basically just... well, ourselves. When we have a conversation with a DC we are just talking to ourself. When we are getting insulted by a DC, we are insulting ourself. Its a very interesting thing to think about.
Everyone here knows what a DC is. If you are new or have just stumbled here on a search, a DC is a dream character. Basically just your mind generating a person and controlling their speech and movement, pretty much based off random thoughts.
But then we have other people in dreams. Characters that disagree with you, characters that don't go away, and characters that seem to have a whole personality of their own. Some say these are entities or spirits inside your dream. But what if in fact, these are just refined DCs?
A theory I would like to present is the next stage of a DC. An ADC, standing for Advance Dream Character. A DC that isn't just a random compilation of thoughts, but in fact a planned out DC. One possibly based off somebody we know. A DC that our mind is paying attention to, possibly because we like, hate, or are particularly interested by this dream character.
For example, in my dreams a stupid bumbling DC might get in the way of my lucid goals. I dont want him here, so my mind isn't going to put a lot of priority on this character. Maybe it'll piss me off for a bit or come out with some stupid words. Either way, I want it gone.
But then in the dream I might want to be bitten by a vampire or something (one of those cool vampires, not the fags in Twilight - they can get fucked). Because I want this character to be here, I'm going to be giving it a lot of attention and thought power. I am intrigued by this vampire - I am focusing a lot on its personality - how it moves, what it does. Because of this I am now developing a DC that is a lot more intricate than your average DC. My brain is thinking about how a vampire will act, what it will do, how violent it will be. I am slowly developing a detailed personality for it, as apposed to the bumbling DC who I couldn't care less about.
For such reasons, I feel its possible that we could maybe develop DCs. We could create a character or species, write up a personality for it, and get to know it as if it was a real person.
In some ways, it would be like we are building a database for the DC. We are filling this database with the things it might do, the way it will act, and the things it will respond to. I know that a vampire will hate light, so if I bring it up in conversation the DC isn't go to ramble on - it'll say something negative about light, maybe "I hate light, keep it away" followed by "I'll kill you if you open a window" because I already know that a vampire will be hostile.
To put it simply, my brain is putting more thought power on a DC I care about. Such logic would explain why dream guides seem so much more real - because we are intrigued by them. We want to talk to them, and we are going to focus our dream on talking to them, freeing up thought power for a more intelligent discussion.
What do you think about this? Would you say that maybe it is possible to refine our DCs? I believe so.
