Imagine a world where everyone knew about Lucid Dreaming..

That would be very awesome! I realize when a lot of people tell their friends about lucid dreaming nobody thinks its cool, or seems excited. I've had this problem many times. What if we all wrote notes saying:
"Dreamviews.com"
or
"Lucid Dreaming"
and dropped them in a random place where we are sure someone would come along and pick the note up. They would most likely be interested and either search it in google or go to Dreamviews. Dreamviews explains lucid dreaming a lot better than most of us. Then more people would be excited about it and start to lucid dream. Then they see this thread and write there own note!
What do you think?

Thanks :). People respond differently when they see it on paper than in person. When I tell them in person they think im crazy. I just thought this would get more people to discover lucid dreaming :)

I made a bracelet that said 'Lucid Dream' so that I could encourage myself to keep going because I was in the process of lucid dreaming and all my friends asked me what 'Lucid Dream' meant. When I explained it to them they thought it was cool. One of my friends said "I want to try that".

But on the other hand, I think that if everybody knew about it, it wouldn't be as fun and unique.

yeah some friends think it is cool, and most think it is weird. I agree with you, but if everyone knew about it then you could discuss it more and talk about it all the time :D

Of course some people, like my mom, even after researching will just think that it was some potheads rolling paper that they dropped.

I told my friends as well. I got a bunch of pessimists for friends :(
Only one friend I told actually went out and tried a FILD, and ended up getting so spooked by sleep paralysis, he couldn't sleep for 4 days...
I guess they're cowards too, who don't see the bright side of the night.

But hopefully, other people in the world will be inspired to explore the mind, and the land of dreams.

So you just want to keep LDing a secret... That isn't fair everyone atleast deserves a chance to know what it is.

I feel the exact same way! It would be cool for people to like LDing more, but I also like having this unique hobby, along with this other unique hobby. I like being unique, but it would also be great for more people to like it.

I definitely agree with those saying its nice to have a unique hobby. I tell people about it and most are really interested and ask heaps of questions, and even though I'm not particularly good at it compared to some at DV, people I tell think I'm some kind of pro :)

@bradysdreaming umm, LDing isn't a secret, anyone can find out about it where they google dreams or hear some documentary, read something, etc.... Gotta remember we weren't told about it, but, we found it so I'm sure some will find it on their own :)

Its kind of fun to be part of something thats not so mainstream. I want people to know... but for lucid dreaming to be generically known globally... seems kinda boring.

I kinda agree with what you guys are saying about it being unique, but if everyone knew about it then I would probably be much better at LDing than I am now. It would be cool to have grown up lucid dreaming, but at the same time it would make it seem less special because I'd probably take it for granted.

I didn't even read the rest of the posts, and I am amazed everyone else sorta feels the same way.

I don't remember how exactly it went but it went over the course of a couple of days to sort of PM each other on a desk. Sometimes I wonder if that person is lurking about somewhere here.

Maybe if we could drop some notes saying like "Come and join our growing membership at dreamviews.com". If we make it sound something like a lot of people are eager to come here, they're more likely to come here themselves.

I want it to be mainstream, who cares if it isn't a special ability, you can make it special in your own, unique way after all!

I'd have no problem with it being mainstream. You'd have more chances to talk about it, at least.

Yeah, but a lot of non-lucids tend to be... not interesting or too crazy and lack control, not to mention that the mainstream idea is that dreams have no meaning and you don't dream daily, so people just naturally forget them and grow up with the idea that it is meaningless, don't think that would be the case for LD though, considering how important recall is for it, that you can do anything you want without consequences, and your limited by your imagination only. Only problem is getting that into people <.<

i've been lucid dreaming for over a year now and to this day i'm still blown away by the reality of lucid dreaming, its truly quite remarkable. its just such an amazing concept. the fact that every single human being has the ability to take control of another plane of existence and do absolutely anything you can imagine. i don't understand why some people don't care for it or aren't interested in it.

It's not a secret but alot of people don't know about it. That is why we should leave notes.

A few years ago. Seeker printed up a bunch of Dream Views business cards. He may even still have a few laying around. We have a Cafepress store set up, where you can get T-shirts, also. If I find some time, I may make some sticker designs, too. Be a nuisance, and slap them over urinals and on gas station pumps.

I think the more the merrier. It definitely takes the right type of introduction to get people to realize what lucid dreaming really means. It is a little mind bending and impossible sounding at first.

I'd totally slap DV stickers about public toilets. :cackle:

Okay I did it. I wrote in a bunch of different bathroom stalls at my school Google: Lucid Dreaming

And I'm going to leave sicky notes in other places! :) This was a good idea.

haha nice everyone. I agree lucid dreaming can be unique even if everyone knew about it. I wrote some notes in school today and just dropped them on peoples desk without them knowing. I hope more people start to do this!

Yeah, I personally think it's a much better way then just to tell them about it.

every time i turn somebody on to lucid dreaming, i feel like i just unplugged them from the matrix. You think that's air you're breathing now?

I think some people just dont care for it , but i think that everyone should atleast try it once. Its pretty much just a double battle, im more towards the side of keeping it on the down low and maybe just telling a couple friends then we could keep it on the down low but it would still be expanding slowly.

But think about it..

When you see a random peice of paper, do you pick it up? If you do, do you open it? And if you open it, do you actually take into consideration what is written? And if you do, would you actually go to a sight called dreamviews?

Just think of the name for a second, imagine you knew nothing about the sight and think about it...

And I know you probably think that's completely immature but hey, I wouldn't actually do all those steps.. And I sure as hell wouldn't go to a site on the internet I found on the sidewalk...

I've had a good response whenever I mention Lucid Dreaming. Some people have heard about it. Some people have experienced it but didn't know what to call it. I belive someday it will replace Virtual Reality.

there are still some cultures out there who see dream control as a normal part of one's striving towards wisdom and self-development. so i think that just as a hallucinogen experience used for a person's development is replaced by personality-regulating pharmaceutical drugs, or the village shaman shifts into a powerful religious authority, lucid dreaming will be outpaced by a new wave of 3D equipped big screen TVs. or maybe i should say "further obscured" rather than "outpaced."

it's so easy to appeal to people's desire for entertainment, distraction and security...

well, i'm cynical and i think technology won't slow down, but i like the ideas you guys have for how to spread awareness on the topic.

I don't get why it would lose its magic... everyone does different things in their dreams, so even if its widely known, doesn't mean everyone will start stalking you and doing the very same thing you do, which makes YOUR LD just as special as before <.<

I know, but it just feels special to have something that you do, like LDing, that no one else does. It's like if you have a hobby, like, I don't know, soccer.. or drawing, and then everyone else decided they wanted to do it, it would really annoy me because that particular thing is no longer special to just you, because everyone around you is doing it too. Except, LD'ing is a lot more interesting and special then drawing and kicking a ball around a field. :cheeky:

Now in a LD you can do anything you imagine, so yeah, unless you get stalked by millions of people who want to do the same stuff you do in a LD, don't see it being less personal.

EDIT: That's sort of what we're saying, in a way. Of course the original Emos wouldn't be happy. It's something unique to them. It's the same for many Lucid dreamers, of course we wouldn't be happy if everyone started doing it.

Being emo isn't a skill. I've worked hard on recall, control, and simply getting lucid. Taking that achievement and making it something thats boring and generic - no thanks. Same way if everyone suddenly could draw the Mona Lisa, that artwork would lose its uniqueness.

I still stand on the "content of the dream", you know loaf, mona lisa may be popular, but using the logic you used, it should not be, since a lot of people draw and make it generic.
Dream content in my opinion, is much more important than just having a LD, sure thing, many people will be able to do it, how many will be able to do it the same exact way you do it?

See; that's another thing, it takes skill to master Lucid Dreaming. You have to work on it and be persistent. If everyone knew about it, imagine the amount of people that would join DV and start threads saying, 'I can't do it! Help me!'. And there would probablly be little kids that are 7 or 8 that decide to give it a go. Imagine sharing your LD'ing talent with a 7 year old... :?

EDIT: It's not about the way you do it. It's the fact that you can do it, and that not many other people you know in RL can.

like i said before, there have been cultures with a generalized awareness of lucid dreaming. having a generalized awareness didn't degrade lucid dreaming. but because i value this skill and not new 3D TV technology or whatever i can relate on some level with what you two are saying. regardless, the value of lucid dreaming isn't going to be diminished by more people doing it, and what makes me unique isn't going to be dragged along with it.

Uh, my brother shared his LD talent with me when I was 5, I also got my first experience at the time and started practicing then, I also share it with anyone that is interested in it regardless of age, and 13- people aren't allowed in DV anyway, don't think that would be a problem. I also doubt that many people would join DV just because its widely known, you know, there are many forums that focus on LD and are not so well known, as well as some others anime based that aren't that well known, that is, if you are referring at the "family" bond that one grows in an internet community.

Wait.. why it isn't the way you can do it... that pretty much means life is not unique in anyway because everyone alive can be alive <.<

Anyways, I wouldn't like it if everyone could Lucid dreams. Because when I actually can be able to do it, it's a skill I have over other people, which I like (at least in my mind) having an advantage. Call me self centered and anything else you want, but what I've said is already out there :P.

i'm with walms. teaching kids a skill can have a positive impact on their life, so maybe you should just separate your self-importance from the issue. from the standpoint of LDing having therapeutic, entertaining or other benefits, i can imagine that a world where everyone knows about this would have happier, more well-rounded people.

It seems that if you can control your dream just by thinking about it, a seven year old could easily "accidentally" think of a nightmare, and because they would only be seven, they'd be scared out of their mind and wouldn't know how to react, so it's a horrible nightmare for them...

Also, alive is completely different from my POV because you (judging from birth and not committing suicide) don't have a choice whether you want to live or not...

Anyway thats off-topic, I don't disagree with people wanting it to not be mainstream, I disagree that it would lose uniqness because of it, I understand people wanting to have something that isn't that... known, I just don't get how it becoming known and helping people would make it worse, seriously, you can make it unique in your own way, so it isn't that much of a loss. Also, a lot of people don't speak english, so you won't get that many DVers.

EDIT: And everyone dreams wether they want to or not, that they forget is different, not a choice either, just as it isn't cool to have less legs so it isn't mainstream.

Yup. I suck at basically everything I do, so Lucid Dreaming feels special to me. I don't take it for granted.

Yes, but (if it became mainstream) there would be, in my opinion, thousands (probably more, I just don't have an education open-mind) of people will come onto this site, and be semi active, which would also take away the specialness (not a word? Oh well...) of knowing a site...

If lucid dreaming became well known, hundreds of lucid dream forums would be created.

I guess you could also think on the bright side, and say that we would be more advanced on the subject (in time).

Because if only one person in the whole would knew anything about electricity would we be where we are today in modern technology?

That's exactly what I was trying to say earlier....but it's a better way of putting it.

One cool thing about Lucid Dreaming is that it's something that not many people do, if everyone did it, that "special thing" about it would disappear, but anyways it would be still fun to do it.

Good thing is that a lot of people in the world is closed-minded and they would see Lucid Dreaming as a satanic thing, or boring, so such thing as LD as a mainstream hobby isn't going to happen, luckily.

I'm a little mixed on this subject. I feel lucky in a way that I know about lucid dreaming and practice it. It's just tough sh_t for those who don't believe in it or just don't care to try.

However, if it did become well known, I wouldn't feel so weird talking about it. Actually, I hardly talk about it at all but this can potentially bring good conversation.

I like this idea... If i saw a piece of paper that had a site printed on it in big letters i would be curious and go to it when i got home just to see what it was.... LOL imagine if we went to the supermarket or something then we saw the note o.0 Wouldn't you just be thinking WOW theres someone else around here somewhere!!!!!
