And i quote from my father.
"Good luck with that then."
My parents still do not know that I am trying LD'ing. Only one knows though for now...and it is my best friend. He seems to be interested and even talks to me sometimes about that topic. He also listens to my dreams too. He now knows some thing about LD'ing. I don't know though if he wants to try.
I told his mother about LD'ing too, but she seems to be uninterested.
I told my mom about LD-ing, she doesn't seem to care much, just a dismissive "Oh, thats interesting". BUT I chose dreaming as a topic for a speech I have in English, and Lucid dreaming in a main part. I'm doing the speech tomorrow, wish me luck. I'll see what my classmates and teacher think of it :P
I've talked about LD to my parents multiple times in this short time I'm into it
most to my mom, but she seems to not being really interested in it, maybe a bit
but she told she did keep a dream journal once(nut only for remembering dreams, not for LD)
also recently told my grandmother to see if she had any advice since she is into things like this(mediatation, yoga-like things, spiritual things etc), she sais she heard about ld but never tried it herself
most of the time I talk about it with a friend that started with ld first and told me about it and now we're trying it both and discussing our attempts, but we both didn't succeed yet...(apart from some spontanious, not induces LD's in the past, I'm trying WILD and he is trying FILD now)
and today I told another friend about it too who also said he wanted to try it
I told my parents that I have dreams where I can control them, without saying "lucid dreaming". Since my mom seems more interested, I told her about how I used it once to combat a nightmare and she was like "wow, that's cool how you could just manipulate something like that". We still occasionally talk about dreams in general because she has recurring nightmares involving animals.
Other than that, I try not to talk about it so much anymore because I don't think anybody would really care to hear me talk about it. :P
When I told my mom she said that she's actually done that before. I was surprised by this. My dad said it sounds cool but he doesn't really see the point of it, but he also has vivid dreams to start with, so I don't know.
My parents just ignored me and kept on saying: "Whatever lucid dreaming is, I don't care." Later, when I started bugging them, my mom just scolded me: "Don't be stupid!" and my dad shouted: "Don't bother me!"
I don't think any of them have lucid dreamed. And if they had, then they certainly don't want to admit it!
My mum has some vivid dreams and likes to talk about her dreams a lot, so she sees it as a normal thing and she's had a few herself in the past. Everyone else in my family doesn't really remember their dreams much so they're not particularly interested.
I have yet to get a negative response from anybody, and I've talked to quite a few people about it. Maybe it's about how you say it. I could imagine that people would think your nuts if you start talking about spirits and demons and stuff right off the bat. But if you go with the scientific approach I believe that people are more willing to listen. You could start with "did you know about a phenomenom called lucid dreaming? It's when people become aware that they're dreaming whitout waking up" and then you could go on and explain about how it makes perfect sense that you can control your dreams because it's all in your brain etc. etc. etc.
Oh and don't forget to mention that it's scientificaly proven. Those two words: "scientifically proven"... they're just gold in convincing people about stuff !
Well, that's my 2 cents atleast, perhaps people are just more openminded in my hometown. :)
If are are open minded/interested in dreams, tell them! If they are very religious and protective, I would advise against it. Each person has a different reaction, so it's hard to tell. I completely agree with Bansheet, make sure you mention it's scientifically proven :)
