How often have you heard the term "semi-lucid" or "Complete/total lucidity" used as a way to express how aware, awake, or lucid one was in their dream?
While every single one of these experiences are still each a bonafide lucid dream, we all must admit that some LDs are a bit more fulfilling than others.
What I would like to accomplish is a brief range of what I would like to call "Levels of Lucidity" wherein each level is given a description of what qualifies it to be that level.
What I hope to achieve from this is a more universal list, and easily referenced way to describe our LDs to others so they can see how lucid we really were.
Now, my very rough...
...Levels of Lucidity:
Level 1. Vaguely aware that oneself is in a dream, not enough lucidity to alter any dream events or exert any control over the environment. Dreamer follows the dream plot as normal, just now aware it is a dream. Linear thinking is near impossible. The concept of waking up is not considered.*Often one refers to a semi or partial lucid after having experienced this level of lucidity*
Level 2. Definitely aware that one is dreaming, more vivid and detailed than normal. Exerts basic control over environment, but yet does not stray from the dream plot. Still not aware that the dream will eventually end. Lower level thinking is present.*Also considered a semi-lucid*
Level 3. Solid awareness that one is dreaming, mostly stable and vivid. The dreamer usually breaks free from the dream plot at this level. Basic tasks are fulfilled with moderate dream control. (Normally satisfying basic needs such as sex or initial thoughts) Difficult tasks are not usually completed at this stage. Dreamer is aware that this is not an everlasting reality.
Level 4. Dreamer has a firm belief that they are dreaming. No longer restricted by the initial dream plot. The oneironaut freely explores the realm of existence now aware of oddities or abnormalities of the dreamscape. Dream control is very strong and barely limited. Slight memory of waking intentions (Dream Tasks). Dreamer is aware that they will wake up after short amount of time.
Level 5. The dreamer achieves full consciousness within the dream. Has a mental state nearly identical to waking life and linear thinking is plentiful. Dream control is now limitless and the dream plot no longer exists. Now able to recall any waking intentions they had previously. Dreamer has a complete understanding that they are on a time schedule and will awaken to find themselves in their own bed shortly. *Often referred to as Complete Lucidity*
This is just layout of what I believe to be different states of consciousness or lucidity that we have throughout different lucid dreams. What I ask of you is to create your own set of Levels and post it here, while giving feedback to my levels and others until we can come to a consensus on what we believe to be the most accurate rendering of the Levels.
Thank you very much for helping me with this, :D
