Hey everybody my name is sighingplant and I've been journaling since April and I've only had one short lucid dream thanks to SP that lead to a FA. My preferred technique is a DILD with the aid of mantras, and a little but barely ADA. My RCs are nose plug and palm two fingers poke. For a few weeks I've been taking melatonin before bed it helps with sleep, fight temptation of staying up by listening to music or podcasts, and stopping a racing mind. It helps with dream recall and it was also suggested on wiki but yesterday I read on here that it prevents lucidicity, probably why I've only had one. But I really need a confirm answer on the melatonin it's 10mg. Goals are: [] be lucid more. Gotta start small by focusing on one thing first before I can set what I wanna do in them imho.

Really? Opheliablue wrote in Lesson 1 that melatonin increases the chance of LDing. That's a little confusing. Do you remember where you read that melatonin decreased chances of LDing? Maybe one of the more experienced members or ones that have taken melatonin can weigh in on this. If you join one of our chat sessions in the next few days, this would be a good question to bring up. Sorry I can't say much about melatonin's effects, I haven't used it for LDing.

I like your goal, I think it's the goal of a lot of people in DV! It could help if you make a specific goal goal as well. :) LaBerge recommends it in his book, Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming. It's not necessary obviously, but consider if it as an option.

There is an excellent book on supplements by Thomas Yuschak, Advanced Lucid Dreaming, the Power of Supplements. Highly recommended.

About your dose of Melatonin - I could be wrong, but I have read here someplace, that the usual dose is only about 0.3mg. Have you read Yuschack's Power of supplements? He says that even 0.5mg of Melatonin can reduce chance at becoming lucid and it supresses REM, just as 5-HTP does.

Alright I'll add a more specific goal, my recall is usually good and yes I have a few dreamsigns but soon as I have my next dream I'll start journaling on DV too.

Last night I went to bed 1ish AM and didn't go to sleep around 5ish AM thanks to my iPod touch lol. I woke up at 11:35 AM but my grandma had the living room tv so loud my recall was no where to be found, I jotted in my journal after the date "I don't remember any dreams". Current goals: [] soon as lucid explore my location [] talk to DC(s) [] fly

To clarify about using melatonin or 5-htp or something like it, I just want to point out that hey help you recall your dreams. They also seem to help you recall more dreams per night, and I suspect they even increase how vivid the dreams are. Therefore, it increases the chances of lucid attainment. They are by no means instand-lucid pills (which I don't think you think, just had to say it :) ), and there seems to be a chance of your body getting used to them. So after a while, the effects seem to wear off. I only take 5-htp very sporadically now. In fact, when I first started taking it, my nutritionist had suggested it for insomnia. Helps to calm a racing mind, as you stated. The added bonus was better dream recall and lucids, but I noticed a huge spike, then a low plateau. So I decided to take them only every now and then, maybe to burst out of a dry spell, as oreoboy1996 once suggested to me.

With all that out of the way, I'm happy to see that you became lucid after a FA. I do that alot myself! Sorry about the recall last night though.. I find that now with school out, there's kids and dogs and all kinds of noise killing me.

Literally the same results as the day before :/ so today I'm going to work out and refrain from my touch, but I do have some good news I've probably done more RCs yesterday than I ever have in one day. Note to self do RCs as soon as I wake up too.

Glad you're remembering to do RCs often, your daily awareness is increasing!

Last night I took a melatonin and 2 dreams one idr what happened in it but 2 dream signs were in them and the second one was bout a complete bald headed dreadless Stevie Wonder and John Legend hoteling in my home by sleeping in a big topless wooden box for 2 (I know wtf lol). The scene changes and one of my dream signs Cousin C got on my computer to buy something but goes on the DV website.

So 3 dream signs in one night.. hope you're doing your reality checking!

It's ok, I had a BIG FAT dreamsign in a dream last night and I missed it. In fact, I accepted it so strongly as normal behavior, that even after I woke up, it took me a while to realize that it had all been a dream. So annoying. :P

So, you start a dream journal yet?

I didn't get a chance to post this morning cause I was busy. Last nite finally went to bed around 3 am and woke up 7ish am so I decided to do a WBTB I got up and chilled in the living room for 25 mins. While I did that I decided to imagine what Id want my lucid dream to take place and some predetermined DCs. Anyways I after those 25 mins I went to bed and decided to try a WILD. Unfortuanetly focused too much on the not letting the mind wander part and forgot the staying awake part so I fell asleep. I had a dream that was a racing (running) a friend (male) in a indoor gym then when went inside what looked like a bigger version of my bathroom and the finish line was to hop in my shower which in the dream was doorless. I look down see the shower floor was ankle water deep. (Male friend disappered) I made a comment how if your feet are dirty your gonna see immidiatly in the shower water. I hear laughter from a female friend of mines (one of the predetermined DCs I imagined) I look up and see her laughing. I step out and walk out the oversized bathroom and i turn around i'm like 4 feet away she's outside the bathroom infront of door which is btw magically closed. She facing her back to me but playing with her hair and looking back by turning her head to the side and seeing me with one eye and giggling. She turn away and repeats the above for a few times then breaks the ice by facing me with a big smile saying how she remembers how we met. I woke up pissed cause I wanted to hear more and couldn't believe I didn't go lucid. I've been friends with her for over a year almost 2 anyways this year she slowly began to like me, I don't feel the same but she's not ugly also if it don't work out I don't want things to go sour or/ and awkward. I imagined her as a predetermined DC so I could practice flirting with her incase I change my mind.

Oh ok cool, thanks for letting me read. Yeah, too bad you didn't get lucid because it's really cool that you had a dream that included one of your predetermined DCs! Do you feel you had a longer and/or more vivid dream because you had a WBTB and chilled in the living room for 25 minutes?

Imagining the dream definatly made it more vivid and longer. I'm going to stick with this technique but instead of picking a setting and few DCs I'll just imagine a DC and a object like a ball or a door.

After this mornings dream i got up to use the restroom, grabbed my 2 small dogs (poodle pekenis mix aka pekapoo) and went back to bed with them to chill for a bit before my grandma came back and ended up falling back to sleep and having a FA where my grandma came back home she opened my bedroom door and scolding me for not taking a shower while she was gone. Also the dogs jumped off my bed and ran out the room. I woke up, door's closed and dogs beside me. I was super shocked because that was the second FA I ever had and unlike my 1st nothing seemed out of place just a realistic worst case scenario lol

Haha those are the worst FAs! I'll have those too, but where my alarm didn't go off properly and I'm late for work. I think that maybe because it's kind of a panicky situation, I don't necessarily notice if something's out of place or not.

For something seeming out of place, that's how my first DILD went so assume how it'll go for all DILDs

For today's post not a DJ entry but something else I realized around 3 ish AM that I'm bit afraid of my next LD involving my phobias. It's dumb probably just a thought but I thought I'd share.

Just a experiencing a lucid dream with some horrific creature or evil spirits cause I read somewhere on here that they hide in the dream world. Arachnidphobia. Also I cant help but notice that melatonin always makes my dreams vivid and bizzare obviously but also 1st person and I DONT TALK like if I'm holding back

The 5-htp does that to me too. But I think the vividness makes me a touch more aware, which increases my chances to recognize that I'm dreaming. But I can see how you would be worried that the vividness and especially bizarreness might make a dream scary. All the more motivation to get lucid.

Id stay away from dream water too it just sounds foolish to jump in unless it was necessary. The melatonin don't scare me I just feel it's making lucidity harder to gain. EWOLD arrived yesterday I read at night for over an hour I'm gonna restart over, by first beginng with a tight sleep schedule and no melatonin.

One long vivid dream that changed scenes like 3 to 4 times. Thinking of changing to WBTB WILD

Oh wow, good job on the longness and vividness of the dream.

I say go for it if you want to do a different technique, like WBTB and WILD. Because even if you're focusing more on those techniques, you could still have a random DILD. Actually whenever I have a DILD, it's usually unintentional anyway hehe. So good luck!

Thanks Ophelia, I'm currently trying the SAT (spordiac awareness technique) for DILDs, first try to get a tight sleep schedule again and then see if i should try WBTB WILDs too. Speaking of them I did an unplanned WBTB WILD got a HI of UK celeberity Karl Pilkington's face but i realized it was HI and felt my body and woke up :/

Well at least you got HI! You were pretty close sighingplant. :) Interesting that you WILDed accidentally. If you found it easy to do, then it's definitely worth another shot!

The HI was very detailed, the face of Karl Pilkington. It's good but I haven't read it in days, I read up to how to MILD

Last night I stood up late and finally turned off the TV around 4ish AM in a few minutes as I was going to sleep i heard some beautiful music it was some guy with an amazing voice singing and the instrumental sounded like a fusion of Curtis Mayfield move on up and Phil Bailey Chinese waters, but not really it's just the closest way I can explain it. As I heard it a few seconds in it was fading and I somehow tuned to it and it got louder and then I snapped out of it. Don't tell me I have a musical pillow lol. Just hearing makes me want to have a LD even more now. Then fell asleep and had 2 dreams, one it was nightime in my neighborhood I guess I was waking my aunt pulls up in a car looked similar to a 74 corvette but for four ppl with her husband and two kids. It was white and futuristic looking with glowing light neon blue lights. I'm shocked and fascinated with the car i ask what is it, she says "ultra Silvia" (which makes no sense cause the car was closer to a chevy corvette then a Nissan Silvia) then she takes off. 2nd dream I received a txt from this chick I used to talk to like over a year,I was so happy I txted her back and then woke up in bed. I was like damn that seemed so real (irl my celly has been broken for quite a while, in other words no cellfone)

Past few days I've noticed I only recall dreams if I WBTB why's that? Is it lack of a tight sleep schedule? Too much tv and iPod touch before bed? Or is it sometimes going to bed with problems and worries in mind (don't worry their minor but still lol)?

Today I woke up recalling a dream :mrgreen:

I recall more dreams after I WBTB as well. Usually because it's just closer to when I wake up.

Interesting bit about the musical pillow! I hear music alot when I have HI. It doesn't sound like it's in my head either, but like it's playing in my room somewhere.

Ok that makes sense, yeah! it sounds so real and live. Idr the words, why is it sometimes we can't recall dialogue or song lyrics from dreams completly? I've had one dream that had a very beautiful female voice singing along with music, and I can't recall the lyrics or melody of the music like I wouldn't be able to hum it, the best I can describe it was if she was like a female Marvin Gaye the singing range was crazy like his and the music was like a blend of MJs Earth Song and Beyonces Party but not rly.

Oh wow that's really cool. Hasn't happened to me that often, maybe once a year. And it's usually classical symphonic music. A few times I was even able to partially direct it. I wonder if the music geniuses like Mozart and Beethoven utilized this kind of thing.

Yeah it's awesome, probably wouldn't be suprised. Anyways last night almost went lucid, their was point in my dream after kissing 2
different girls the scene changes I spot an old crush I think "why don't I feel nervous?" but unfortuanetly didn't do a RC and continued with the dream, you really can't slack off for a bit with your daily doses of RCs :/

I became a bit aware in last nights dream but as I did I awoke :/

What's with the asterisks? Were you posting on your phone and it glitched out? Shame you didn't remember your dream, but I did that last night myself. I remembered a DC, but that was it. Such a shame, it seemed like an interesting dream.

Were you twitching or flailing when you woke up, to try to get the cobweb off? Could you still feel it when you woke up? Good job on your recent awareness by the way!

Looks like a glitch lol, when I woke up I ran my fingers through my hair while laying in bed in the dark lol, thanks. Today's dream idr much not 100% sure but think I went on a date with Nicki minaj lol pretty wierd cuz I mean she's alright.

I had 2 naps this afternoon today and had 2 seperate dreams where I was concious from the start but I was like watching them like a movie before my eyes instead of being in them even with 1st person view, was even able to think but had SP so pretty much concious but wasn't able to go lucid cuz of SP and wasn't even them

Interesting, I wonder if you were having hypnogogic hallucinations? It's like, you could see the dream as if you were watching a movie, but you were aware of your body in your bed, with SP?

Ive never experienced a SP like this. Maybe but usually when I have SP the HH are in my room. I realized oh this a dream but couldn't move my body, dream A was
blurry and misty I hear 2 guys talking about chakras n etc and I see green and blue energies. Dream B I was witnessing from birds view a very blasphemous music video that was black and white, setting was a church, there was a really fat person dressed as Jesus and women throwing Satans horns up

Within in this week I've had 2 dreams where I realized I was dreaming n woke up

Well that's cool! So you got lucid both those times, and just woke up too fast? What triggered the lucidity?

Hey, these are a big deal. As you become more familiar with the feeling of lucidity and start expecting it to happen, you'll grow less and less likely to shock yourself awake.

Instead of that shock that jolts you awake :panic: you'll experience a sensation more along the lines of, "And here we go..." You're learning every time one of these ultra-short lucids happens to you. Remember what it felt like and run through how you will react the next time that it happens. Forewarned is forearmed, as they say, so these are helping ready you for the future.

If you are interested in broadening your tool set a bit, these short lucids may present an ideal opportunity for dream chaining via DEILD. There are a couple of great tutorials on this:

From last night:
I just had a dream I was chasin this chick (flirty pursuit) than I got to her and we began to walk as we hold hands, I realized it was dream so the shit ended. But now I'm in bed still as dry dog shit, eyes closed, and I could still feel her hand. I saw black since I could still feel her hand I smiled and all of a sudden started seeing like a tunnel of red energy rotating in place. I was trying to get back to it but I just kept going in the tunnel and than stop and than continue but no progress, so I got bored and opened my eyes. idk if this helped but b4 this happened I was listenin to lucid dreaming binuaral isochronic on YouTube for 15 mins got bored and turned to slow songs like frank ocean voodoo and YouTube compilation video called I think, Jamie foxx true r&b talent. While I was listenin to them I was having really short barely vivid dreams, one was animation of the catepillar from bugs life but stick figureish cheap 3D looking walking lol

Interesting. So you become aware that you are dreaming, and THEN you hit sleep paralysis? If so, then I'm curious: are you actually starting a dream first? Like walking around and doing things, then you become lucid, then get paralyzed?

I'm just asking because I find it interesting that it's backwards from most people heh.

I already got sleep, so I'm sure this is why this happen. I was reading bout ppl's LDs in bed than decided to sleep a little more without intentions of LDing or anything. I just had SP but like in the dreamworld I guess I'm in a room that looks like mines but not really but i'm stuck in the bed and all I can do is barely toss and turn while like breathing hard. Than I have a FA still in bed with SP I try to move but same barely can only move in bed and something is attacking me. I hear like a roar and it's attacking my thigh, it hurts. It ends and I have another FA/SP I guess, again in what looked like my room but not really but this time I see my covers are brown instead of blue and out the corner of my eye I see someone in a wedding dress which I guess was a mannequin because a mannequin hand slowly stretches towards me, which freaks me out a bit. I try moving but my body and limbs feel so heavy and it's very hard to move. That mannequin hand continues to stretch more and more but very slowly, I eventually managed to get out the bed but my eyes are still glued to that hand while I'm trying to put my feet in my addidas slides lol. Since my body is so heavy and I move slow, I give in by reaching for the mannequin's hand. I grab her hand, expecting to feel a plastic hand but instead I feel as if I'm clenching my covers. Now finally awake in my bed with my eyes close and that same hand I used is in fact clenching my covers lol. That felt so real! I've read bout amatuers alike who when they breakthrough their body feels heavy and it's hard for them to move too but why is that? Was I supposed to try to stabilize? I didn't even think of doing it, I was so alarmed by the mannequin. I didn't even think I would be able to get out the bed, eitherway IT WAS COOL EXPERIENCE AND CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE!!! It's been probably over a year since my first and very short LD. To the people who are scared of SP and the "spookyness" it's really not that scary. Just all in the moment type thing :)
