Zaven's Workbook

Reality Checks:
- Pushing hands through each other
- Breathe while holding breath
- Count fingers

Dream Signs:
- Mountains/Steep Cliffs
- Vast Oceans
- Huge structures
(I love nature and it's beauty so maybe that's why I have so many dreams with awesome landscapes)

Short-Term Goals:
- Stabilize a dream and control it for at least 3 minutes
- Have a 'real' lucid dream (All others have been semi-lucid)
- Have perfect eyesight in dream. I wear contacts irl but I hate them and wish I could get a new pair of eyes so this would be awesome.
- Experience Sleep Paralysis, Some people say it's scary but that's the reason I want to experience it. I love new things and this would be amazing to try

Long-Term Goals:
- Be able to fly (I did fly in one semi-lucid dream, but didn't really take it all in until after I woke up. So I want to fully control it)
- Communicate with my favorite people in my dream
- Summon things/people.

Lucid/Dream Recall History:
- Have only ever had semi-lucid dreams where I knew I was dreaming (kind of..) but didn't at the same time. It's hard to explain but it's true.

Current Technique:
- None. Haven't tried and stuck to a technique before. I want to now though. Maybe I'll start with WBTB (Tried this before but fell asleep.)

Yep, totally makes sense. I think that most of us experience something like this when we're learning to lucid dream. During that first phase where I was having my initial set of lucid dreams, I would have so many close calls where I was thinking about lucid dreaming, in lucid dreaming types of situations, or I was "pretending" to be lucid.

It's great that you're having these! This is the sort of thing that happens when you're becoming more and more attuned to your dream life and getting really serious about your practices. I still have dreams about lucid dreaming, and even though this makes me feel like a bit of a dimwit, it just means that it's on my mind.

Yes, WBTB is powerful indeed, particularly when coupled with another induction technique (such as MILD or others.) The great majority of my lucid dreams occurred after a WBTB period!

How did you end up falling asleep? Do you mean that you woke up but didn't manage to get out of bed? This happens to me a lot of nights. I always try to do a WBTB off of a natural waking, so there are many nights where it just doesn't happen. I don't like alarms, though, so this is the price that I pay. :)

As in I got up, got some water, then went back to bed and tried to fall asleep into a dream but ended up just falling asleep :/

Nothing wrong with that! Trying to fall straight back into a dream during a WBTB is a WILD (wake-induced lucid dream.) Fortunately, this is not the only technique that WBTB enhances.

By using WBTB, you are also greatly increasing your odds of hitting a DILD (dream-induced lucid dream) where you spontaneously realize that you are dreaming during a dream already in progress. (Virtually all of my lucid dreams have been DILDs, so I like it just fine.) :) WILD's a great technique for many folks, but missing it and falling asleep still leaves you with a great chance at a DILD.

Nope. I need to work on dream recall more first. And I'm doing a second read-through of EWOLD.

Recall is definitely a good thing to work on. After all, it is basically the foundation of any dreaming practice. It turns out WBTB helps recall considerably. There are many other techniques, supplements, and states of mind that can be used to enhance recall.
