Ahoy!
Newbie here, just accomplished a (sketchy) WILD yesterday morning and I'm eager to learn more about this stuff. As a professional nerd, teenager, and amateur novelist, the possibilities are endless for what I could do with this technique. As you'd expect, I have a few questions.
First off, brain exercise. I assume lucid dreaming works the brain at least slightly more than normal dreaming, seeing as the conscious mind is more actively involved in the process. So is this a good way to expand the speed and general ability of one's brain?
Second, the speed. I remember reading somewhere that a dream is generally no more than a minute or two, but I've read elsewhere that this was a myth. Fueled by the awesome movie that was Inception, what's the correct length and speed of a normal dream compared to real time?
Lastly, what's a good way to immerse myself better in the dream? I had a tough time concentrating on the dream yesterday and I want to be able to sustain them longer and experience them more vividly.

Hi, welcome to Dreamviews Ryudin!
:welcome:
I'd say that lucid dreaming works your mind more in terms of awareness, logic and reasoning, so it's probably safe to say that it can improve the abilities of your brain. To answer your second question, I believe dreams are fairly short (from what I've read); dreams that are an hour only seem that way in the dream, but once you wake up you may realize that only half an hour or so has passed.
If you want to sustain a dream and try making it longer and more vivid, try spinning very slowly around in a circle, taking in all the scenery. Your mind will have to work to create more things to look at, thus grounding you in the dream. Also, touching objects and overall just observing things tends to help me greatly, so I'd say give that a shot too. To improve vividness and even the chances of becoming lucid (although I'm skeptical on that last part), there's lots of supplements on the market that you can buy. There's a list here. But then again, there's also simple fixes such as apple juice.

Wow! Thanks for the quick reply. :D
Yeah, those are pretty intense solutions for my problems. Now I've just got one more problem... This site, unlike any other place in internetland, actually makes me want to go to sleep sooner!
