Problems with Dream Recall

I have been working on my dream recall for the past five months and have seen little to no improvement. I have been keeping a dream journal, and repeat to myself that I will remember my dreams as I fall asleep each night. I'm wondering if there is something I'm doing wrong or something that I need to add. I very rarely become conscious in my dreams, so when I wake up, I don't even realize that I had a dream to try and remember. I also sleep straight through the night, so I don’t wake up after my dreams either. I am lucky if I am able to remember one dream a week.

Have you attempted setting your alarm in the middle of the night to see if that stirs you? You could attempt a WBTB to try and encourage recall.

Are you seeing any common themes between the dreams you do remember?

I haven't tried waking myself up, but I'll see if that helps. And most of my dreams that I remember focus on what I did the day before and school.

ok, i got desperate and thought of this: set your alarm or have someone wake you up in the later stages of the night then recall as many dreams as you can, jot them down. (key points work) then an hour or so later get up and recall, jot down. repeat this every hour until you have to get up, don't want to go back to sleep, or are tired of waking up.

I tried this technique this morning and remembered 2 dreams and a few fragments.

Last night I tried waking up 4 1/2 and 6 hours after going to sleep. First I had a fragment and the second time I had a full dream to record. I'm going to try again tonight to see if I can improve on that.
