hello, does anybody do regular DEILDing and how can i train myself to keep my eyes closed when i awake, i usually jolt my eyes open after waking
I dont DEILD regularly but I have been trying to lately. I have been able to train myself to keep my eyes closed when I wake up and it is extremely valuable. What I did was before bed, repeated a mantra "I will keep my eyes closed and stay completely still when I wake up." Then when I wake up, if I would move or open my eyes, I would just correct myself and tell myself "next time I'll be still and keep my eyes closed." After doing this for about a week I was able to train myself to be completely still and keep my eyes closed every time I woke up. It also helped me to just be more aware of exactly when I wake up which is also very helpful for recall. Welcome to dreamviews :D Im sure there will be others with advice. You might try the mantra though, it worked really well for me
Thanks alot for the quick reply, I will definately try the mantra as it seems to work very well, do mantras have to be performed out load or can i just repeat it in my head as there are family members who probably dont want to hear me speaking whilst they are all trying to get to sleep :)
What about being able to naturally wake up and not drift back to sleep? Because I don't even remember when I wake up. Sometimes, I set my alarm, and in the morning I don't even remember turning it off!!
Sorry i didnt reply yesterday i was camping, so no internet.
No dont worry about it being out loud. Just repeat it in your mind over and over again. I like to watch my breathing and when i breathe in i say, in my head, the first half of the mantra. When i breath out i'll say the second half.
But yeah the mantra becomes more effective the more internalized it is. You can start saying it out loud but this is not as effective as saying it with audible thought. Even more effective than audible thought is when you let the mantra become a silent intention that you recognize with every breath; this is a bit more difficult though:P Good luck
Modernninja, to keep from drifting back to sleep i would try getting up for a moment or try remembering any dreams you have had and write them down. Personally all i have to do is start remembering dreams and write them down, sometimes this wakes me up too much and its hard to get back to sleep. If you are trying to DEILD you wont want to wake up this much, but if you practice frequent WBTBs it will help you to be more conscious of when you wake up, this will help you DEILD in the future.
I think the best thing would just be to practice a WBTB whenever you can. Start to get an idea of how long you sleep before your first REM cycle and how long each one is after that. After a while you wont even need to use an alarm, you will wake up after your dream cycles and with practice you should be more aware of the process. You could use a mantra for this situation as well, perhaps something like "I will be more aware of when i wake up." Hope this helps :D
Btw i dont want you guys to think im some kind of DEILD or LD expert, im still learning too:D but i have been able to train myself to wake up after dream cycles so i thought i could help. Once again good luck and have fun in the dreamworld, if you have more questions please ask. If i cant help you im sure someone else will:)
yea i used to have that problem where i would turn off my alarm and not realize that i had woke up at all. Before i went to sleep i would tell myself that i would realize when i woke up and not go back to bed until i acknowledged that i was awake. Worked for me
I have been WTBTing though...
Well try the mantra before bed, tell yourself that you will "realize when you wake up and not go back to bed" like yesac suggested. You could also try to make it a point not to turn off your alarm right away and let it wake you up a bit. I realize it will be difficult considering most of the time you dont even remember turning it off in the morning, but by setting your intention on waking up fully during each WBTB you will start to get better and better.
Perhaps you could try placing your alarm just out of arms reach so you are forced to physically get up. This isnt ideal because in the end you will want to lie completely still, but it may help to get you into the habit of fully waking throughout the night. Ultimately you just want to make a conscious effort to be more aware of waking up. This alone will help tremendously. It will just take some practice and some time for you to observe your waking process and be able to recognize it more easily.
Ok, I will try..
