Hello!
Hey guys, 18 years old university student here
Few things about my self:
- I like playing videos games mainly the Total War series, Starcraft 2, Dota 1 & 2
and A LOT of console games (Red Dead Redemption, and Mafia 2 were my favourites)
- I like any type of music, but mainly underground beats such as P.SUS, Nujabes, Pogo, 14?, Olive Oil, Michita, etc.
- Currently studying Computer Science
I've been aware of what lucid dream is since I was 14 or so, but I have not gotten serious nor attempt it till a few weeks ago.
But I did have one when I was 10, It was sort of a scary experience where I realized I was awake in the dream, and I thought I wouldn't be wake again so I started screaming to my mom to wake me up, and eventually I woke up.
I've always thought it was just for fun, but I've realized its much more than that, I've read more stuff about it, and it almost convinced me that you can use this to ehance your skills in reality, as an example, I am a bad at public speaking, and through LD I can practice there and become better, or face my fears of doing it.
Just wondering though.. is it really true? To enhance your skills in your dreams?
I know they used it as a therapy for fears, but how about enhancing your abilities, such as, ability to play a video game, or play an instrument, even by a tiny bit?

I have heard of people who practice a skill in their dreams. I have not had much success with it, myself. Even my most lucid dreams are still a bit too "dreamlike" for anything overly practical. Any time I do something that takes a lot of attention, it begins to take over the dream. For example, when I practice painting, the task takes my whole attention. If I get too focused on the image I am trying to create, it takes over as the main dream scene. I will no longer be in a studio painting a landscape, I will be in the landscape, itself. I don't know if this makes any sense.
I am also very good at fooling myself in dreams. I can't sing worth crap in real life, and don't know anything about music. In lucid dreams, I often burst into song, singing what I believe are beautiful, complicated arrangements. I'm sure they are nothing of the sort. Similarly, I am often convinced I discovered a hilarious joke, or a brilliant insight. When I wake and write it down, it turns out to be complete nonsense.
I do find dreams very helpful for my design work. It is unfairly easy for me to solve complex design problems, come up with creative ideas, and artistic inspiration. Lucid dreaming has been immeasurably helpful to my education and my career.

Even though I have not experienced LD that much, I do very much understand where you are going at.
I guess the brain just gets ultra creative as they said, I just need to experience it now

I see, but I guess it would make sense if I'm trying to play basketball in my dream vs reality.. since my body just won't develop in my dream loool.
But I do know that sleep is extremely crucial for learning or improving.
So, I guess the most improvement you get from LD is pretty much being creative at something.
