typical beginner
Hey everyone.
As most people in this section I am totally new to this and only have been on this journey a few short days. I have been attempting WILD during naps on my lunch break, and during the night. I also have been working on my recall (journal), which is quite horrible. Maybe parts of dreams about once a month. One of the factors may be is I have to rush out of bed every morning for work, and do not have the proper time to review my dream.
Anyway, my main question is about my WILD attempts. Each time I have tried I have gotten to the SP phase. I am pretty good about laying still, clearing my mind, focusing on breathing, etc. After about 30 minutes each time something happens. My leg muscles and such start to tighten up (I am not consciously doing it). My heart beat quickens out of nowhere. Instant arousal. It feels like I am going deeper (inception pun intended). Then slowly my body loosens up and I get extremely relaxed to the point I feel like I am one with whatever I am laying on. What part of the process am I witnessing? How do I get from SP to dreaming? One thing is that I next sleep on my back, but I find it natural when trying to WILD. Would that be a factor?
Any thoughts would be great. Thanks, and nice to meet you all.

Hi I'm also a newbie but I thought I would reply because I have the exact same problem. ;) Although I'm not a pro at getting into SP I am not quite sure how to enter from it into the dream. But anyways, good luck and nice to meet you.

Wake up a little earlier to dedicate some time to writing down dreams.
Sounds like you go good at getting into SP, is this before prior sleep like at 10 PM or such or WBTB where you sleep and then wake up at 4 or 5 AM and go back to sleep to attempt the WILD?
It's almost impossible to WILD from before you sleep due to REM phases and the like so that's useless, I'm fairly sure you can still get into SP at that point though, just not the dream.
So if you are doing the WILD at the right time, you get into SP and start hearing or seeing things, you just passively view them and think about them a little to stay aware and try not to be excited. It goes from patterns of light to a full dream scene over a period of time you can then be in it and tadaa a dream. (Usually) Hope some of that helped. I've only got into SP before and I go too excited when I started seeing lights :P I'm attempting a WILD pretty much every night but I keep falling asleep, I'll need to do something to wake up a bit.

Hey! Welcome to DV :)
I'm still in the process of learning how to WILD as well. I'm in a Dream Views Academy WILD class right now. Anyway, I thought maybe this might help you:

Welcome to Dreamviews!
All advice here is good - about DJ, WILDing after some sleep and the class at the Academy.
BTW - when we start to dream, our heart rate and breathing goes up and males get aroused. That's all normal. Stay calm and see where it takes you. Happy dreams:)

Deffinitly work on recall first! As ive found out recently you may have LD but forget them with the sudden awakening. Try to wake up to a softer sound if you can or wake up during rem to hopefully remember. :)

You are experiencing your body's relaxation stage not sleep paralysis. When you lay completely still and remain aware you will notice that your body parts can vibrate a little bitand you might start to wander your thoughts, your then in Condition A.
You can also start to see swirling patterns with your physical eyes, don't bother them they are just neuron discharges. Although they might be interesting to look at but they disappear quicker when you don't. When they cease you have entered what Monroe calls Condition B. You should now continue to relax your body even more to the state of mind that Monroe calls Focus 3 or Condition C.
Focus on a spot about 1 foot away from you (30 cm) in front of your closed eyes and move that awareness upward about 90 degrees above your head. When you feel the vibration mentally put them in your head. Here you lose all awareness of the physical body and sensory stimulation this is the full relaxation stage and it feels like you are in a black void of infinity and you are just a dot of consciousness. This is called Focus 10. And I guess you are in paralysis by then.
Here you must learn to control the vibration and separate. There are different techniques like rolling out, levitating, just getting up and so on.
When you are out of the bed in the non-physical you have reached Focus 12 and you are now out of body.
Monroe's little guide there for ya :D You don't have to do it that way, but maybe you learn the sensations you will feel by reading this.
However it might be different for everyone but this can work as guidelines.
Good luck.
