Hello! + a question
Hello everybody!
I'm Keegan and I'm new to the DV forum. I used to have lucid dreams all the time as a kid but I haven't had one in years and have just recently become interested in them.
I've been doing reality checks, trying to push one hand through the other as well as checking the time. I also have been trying to keep a dream journal, but as soon as I wake up (even if it's directly from a dream) I can't remember any aspect of my dreams. I've tried taking vitamin b6 to improve the vividness of my dreams and dream recall but I've still gotten nowhere.
I take a medication called olanzapine and I was wondering if this could be the cause to why i don't recall my dreams. I used to have the most amazing dreams as a child and I would realt like to get that back.
Thank you to anybody who can help me out

Hi Keegan, welcome to Dream Views! :D
I only know very little about olanzapine (zyprexa), but from a few of the stuff I've read, some people who took it reported having weird and vivid dreams. I don't have a clue as to whether it actually affects dreams, but perhaps your problem is more on the memory side? Because it is also possible that you are having a lot of dreams, but the medication is hindering your memory. (Possible side effect maybe?)
The only thing I can think of right now is to try using autosuggestion or mantras before bed to help you remember stuff. You can do something like "I will remember my dreams" or anything along those lines. It may not sound too appealing, but autosuggestion really works wonders on the mind! It might work for you ;)
Good luck, and see you around~

Welcome!
Writing in your dream journal will help with your recall. Write in it, even if all you remember is one word, a feeling, a color, or anything else. If you don't remember anything at all, write "I have good memory and my recall is getting better every day. You can read some more tips about recall here.
The more you think about your dreams, the more will your mind realize, that they are important to you. Happy dreams:alien:

Those are some very good suggestions and I will likely try writing about how my recall is getting better in my DJ tomorrow morning when I wake up. But it may also be worth stating that I have a lot of trouble falling asleep at night and that may be affecting my recall and overall dream experiences. I may also try to meditate for 10 minutes a day focusing on my breathing. I heard that that may help with memory.

Welcome to Dream Views! Hope to see you in the chat.
Good luck with everything! I bet lucid dreaming was fun for you as a kid.

Welcome to Dreamviews!
The medicine may be affecting your dream recall, I am not aware of it's effects with dreams. When you first get up, dreams should be the very first thing on your mind. Lay there for a couple minutes just trying to remember your dreams. Write down anything you can remember, even if it's just a color. You can also try mantras and tell yourself you WILL remember all your dreams before bed. Keep consistently trying and you will have success eventually :)
