Hello
Hello,
First and foremost this looks like a great place! I am glad to finally be posting. THis seems like a great community and I am excited to be here! When i was a kid i would ocassionally have lucid dreams but wasnt very familiar with what was going on so about a year ago i decided to dive in as an adult. I have been trying off and on for a bout a year now.
I have recently been attempting to gain lucidity in dreams and the first thing I have noticed is that my dreams are so much more vivid, which is amazing in itself, however typically when i begin to gain lucidity in dreams I start floating away and the only way I can describe the feeling is that I am being sucked out of the dream. Its like static starts to cloud over everything and then I am awake. It feels the same every time. I say to myself 'This is a dream", i start floating uncontrollably and then the static comes and within what feels like 2-3 minutes of floating off into nothing, i wake up. Any thoughts on this and how to ground oneself in the moment?
A second phenomena I have noticed, is that while i do still have a few recurring dreams, the recurrence has become more like continuations of past dreams. For example last night I had a dream that was a replay of a dream i had prior, but now as an adult. The memories of the original event were so real I woke up trying to decide if the original event really happened. I almost called someone to validate whether or not it happened in my waking life past. Is this a pretty common phenomena as you become more aware in your dreams, older dreams are easier to recollect?
Thanks everyone and I look forward to being a member!

Hey danimal123 and welcome to DV!
When you say you are getting sucked out of the dream, is it because you feel excited about it? Or were you just not expecting a lucid dream before bed? I personallyin your case would do mantras before bed saying "I will lucid dream tonight" and, or "I will stay in my lucid dream". It's all about dedication and motivation and the intent that you will have/stay in your lucid dreams.
I can relate to having recurring dreams a lot more prior to wanting lucid dreams and I still have a lot of recurring dreams, that's all my lucid dreams mostly are but of course it's different for everybody and I wish my lucid dreams took place somewhere else for once, it's always the same dream scene. In fact this morning I had a dream that atleast I think I remember having when I was younger - but don't worry it's all normal.
Once again welcome to DV and I hope to see you around! :)

I don't expect it but even when i understand what is going on and try to calm myself there is no hope. I just literally feel like I am floating away haha. I will try the Mantras for sure.
Thanks for the advice, I am glad to be here!

:welcome: back!
When you feel the dream is ending, you can try to enter the next one. YOu can either wait for next visuals to form, or just stand up with your dream body. Because you are maybe still in a dream, you just think you woke up.
You can ground yourself by becoming part of the dream, rather than just an observer. Touch the ground or your body, eat something, sing, stomp, clap your hands... or start doing something that is your lucid goal. TOTMs or any of your personal goals are a great way to get involved in a dream. Happy dreams
