This is WBTB, as you probably know. There are various opinions about how you should do WBTB, like how long you should stay awake. It depends on the person and on the technique you like to do. If I do WBTB and WILD, I do not stay awake for 30 mins. If I will do this, I can't fall asleep easily anymore and WILD just doesn't work for me. I've also heard other people about this fact. If they do WILD and WBTB they just stay awake for a few minutes and then try to WILD. (When I use MILD and WBTB, I usually do stay awake for 30 minutes and think and read about Lucid Dreaming)
