WILD without waking up in the middle of the night?

I had already some experiences of almost WILDs, meaning I've felt the vibrating sensation and have seen flashing images before my eyes, and once I even felt like my soul was sucked out of my body and I saw my from behind. It was always when I was having an afternoon nap. Now there come my questions:

Is it possible to perform a WILD directly when you go to sleep at night? Is it necessary to wake up in the early morning because of the REM-cycle? Why does it work then during an afternoon nap?
However, I'll try anyway because this seems to progress more than DILDs for me, but I'm curious about your opinions...

From what I understand, the reason for during it later is due to the body's sleep cycle. You're REM periods get much longer towards the later hours. Thus sleeping for 3+ hours before you attempt WILD will burn off all that non-REM time. I've also read on here that simply the fact of waking up after being asleep and slightly denying yourself REM will make it actually increase when you do go back to sleep. So basically its much more likely and easier to walk into a dream during the later hours of your sleep.

So it's just recommended to WILD in the middle of the night, because it's easier... right?

does that mean, that LDs are likely to be shorter while having an afternoon nap?

yea the way i understand it some people can wild before going to sleep. although i haven't had a LD yet i have felt my strongest effects before going to sleep versus after waking up.

so it helps, but isn't absolutely necessary.

It is called a Wake Induced Lucid Dream... If you don't wake up, than it isn't a WILD

True, it is called a Wake-Induced-Lucid-Dream, but that doesn't mean you have to wake up then fall asleep. It simply means you move from the waking world to a dreamscape with no intermediary. It's probably the most efficient method available right now.

To answer the original question, no, you don't need to sleep for 3-5 hours before attempting a WILD. That is actually the WBTB portion of a WBTB/WILD combo. Some people find it helpful for the reasons apathy4reality already mentioned, but it isn't necessary.

as at night i just end up falling back asleep

Just funny that I came upon dreamviews.com because I had been having lucid dreams and not because I wanted to... I had lucid dreams as a child (7 yr old) and they only came back when I had a depression and was under much stress and overslept and all that. I had sleep paralysis (which scare the fuck out of me before researching about it) and occasional DILDs. I'm still taking anti depressants by the way, but I feel much better now :). Anyway good luck to you all trying to achieve this state. It's very very cool :).

I'm getting there using WILD without doing WBTB. I've got vibrating sensations, I've heard voices, and I've even felt my heartbeat go away. I personally don't need WBTB, but it's good for some people, since we're all different.

Technically yes but i suppose you would be waiting a long time in SP before an REM period comes along for you to enter into the dream world.

You don't need to wake up in the middle of the night to do a WILD. It's just the chances of doing it is far greater.

I usually always true to start off my nights by doing a relaxation technique, followed by energy stimulation and then straight into trying to WILD.

I've had 2 or 3 lucid dreams in a row with just 3-4 hours of sleep. I think I'm just lucky to be a person who used to know lucid dream at a young age. (I knew the ups and downs until I forgot about it and reactivated this natural ability) I think it was due to my natural sleeping habits that I can just get dreams at some rather wierd times. (There are times I've woken up 10-20 times in one night, not able to tell what time it is, cutting in and out of my subconscious mind, and cutting in and out of what seems to be a dream. Those are the most frustrating days especially when I really want to sleep)

Ive been working on the non-sleep wild for about 3 months, not every night but i try to as much as i can. Anyway ive been extremely close, i start to see flash images and then i just pass out, i fall into blackness and forget everything. But as soon as i can successfully pull it off i will be the lucid warrior!!!!! Cause i think if i can do it once ill be able to do it again and again and again!

You can WILD with out waking up in the middle of the night, however it's recommended to wake up because it increases your chancs of lucidity.
