SP is just that: paralyzation. It's a loss of body control, and some people take better to losing control than others. It's almost claustrophobic for me, personally.
I don't think most people are afraid of the sensations themselves. I believe that the paralyzation comes so suddenly when it DOES actually arrive, that many panic and start to think that if they don't move, they'll not be able to LEAVE the SP. You know, get stuck paralyzed but aware forever. Actually, that would be a pretty horrible thing... thankfully that's not how it works!
If anybody here gets scared of SP, just try any remember, you'll always be able to stop the experience later. Just hang in there for now; after all, you didn't just spend 20-40min lying there for NOTHING! :D

I remember reading somewhere that you feel fear during SP because the paralytic chemicals in your blood stream are similar 'in experience' to the adrenaline released during extreme fear.
You feel the chemical fear because its in your blood, then your mind comes up with a scary scenario (someone in the room threatening you, being crushed, scary loud noises ect.) to rationalize it.
But that could be B.S.
Just try to relax even though it seems impossible.
