I joined because I'm freaking out!!! I ALWAYS lucid dream!!

Hey, I'm Nicole. I'm very worried, because I never not lucid dream. I've always dreamt consciously, ever since I was little, and rarely have unconscious dreams. I had no clue that people didn't normally dream lucidly, so I'm very concerned. What does this mean? :? I always thought it was a "cool thing I could do", controlling my dreams like I do. I can do whatever I want in my dreams; I've always been the author. But as I've delved more into research, I've realized it's rarer than I'd first believed. Please help me! I had no idea it was considered difficult or unnatural. :eek:

I also have very vivid realistic dreams. My dreams are usually things that could possibly happen in real life; it's never like I've become a fairy and I'm suddenly flying winglessly. Actually, I often confuse what occurs in dreams to what happens in reality. This results in a dilemma sometimes.

Stop for a moment and think. There are several thousand people who wish they could be you. >_> Seriously, don't freak out! XD That's very amazing, and I've actually met a few other people in the past who have claimed the same thing, though certainly not that many. It is slightly "unnatural" but that doesn't mean you're a freak or a weirdo. Just means you're gifted. If only we all were!

I'm also a strong synesthetic, if that has anything to do with it. I've always suspected it has....

You're not a freak, you're a natural as people say. Most people aren't natural lucid dreamer... I'd feel special if I was you! Now you can go brag at everyone and tell them you can dream unconsciously every night. They'll be like "It's impossible!" and you can laugh at them! lol! (no I'm not the bragging type) but that'd be funny.

Anyways, that's cool that you love dreams. Actually, I found out about DreamViews because I had good dreamrecall and was interested in dreams... Synesthesia is a neurological condition when your senses are linked, or one sense will stimulate another. That's to put it as simply as possible. For example: projecting color onto letters, seeing color for songs, tasting words, etc. That's where photographic memory comes from (which I also have...maybe that also correlates?).

Again, I'm extremely curious on dreams and hope to discover a lot on the subject soon enough. :)

Synesthesia is actually a lot more involved than I'd expected at first. It contributes to a lot of things I'd never been able to explain, and I'm pretty sure that's why I dream as vividly as I do. But who knows...I could be wrong.

Trust me, you do not wish you were me. Although you might think having this is cool, my life sucks. I'm starting my fourteenth school next year! Woot woot! That's not even the start of it.

Hmm and no, that's not part of synesthesia. LOL But a lot of people have it and have no idea. It's really how strong it is. There are associators and projectors; associators are much more common. I just learned that recently too. LOL I'm a projector, and I'd figured there were more projectors, but apparently there are LOADS more associators. That means, instead of SEEING blue on the number 7, you just KNOW that 7 is blue. :)

Synesthesia is not all cakes and bunnies and rainbows. Trust me. There's a long list. About seeing music: because I have such a strong connection with music, I have musicophilia. Meaning, I have such an obsession with music that I feel like I'm dying without it. One time, when I was younger, I couldn't bring my music to camp, and I cried every night because I was so sick for my music. My brain was fogged for that whole week I was at camp, and I couldn't focus on ANYTHING because all I wanted and all I needed was my music.

No, I know I do not have synthesinthia! I wish! lol! I only can feel tastes but I don't hear noises or see things from other senses and I only taste stuff even though there's nothing in my mouth 'cause I like to do it and I use to try... It's more like tastegrahic memory, lol!

You might want to try Reality Checks. Usually they're used to find out when you're dreaming, but I've found that sometimes they're useful for checking to make sure you're really awake :P Note: I used to use the finger counting reality check all the time (if you have five fingers, you're awake. Any other number, and you're dreaming.) After a while my hands starting looking too realistic in dreams and I would think I was awake when I wasn't. I fixed this problem by trying to consciously create an extra finger whenever I did the reality check; if I was awake, nothing would happen, but in a dream it would eventually work. Great for practicing dream control, too.

With photographic memory, do you remember everything you decide to memorise? Could you "photograph" a page and read it from memory, or do you just understand everything that's written, the moment you photograph the page?

This may sound blatantly obvious, but have you ever considered that you dont have any perception of what a dream is? I probably worded that wrong, but what I mean is..

If you had a lucid dream, would it be completely different from what you're feeling? Then you would realize that you only thought you were having a lucid dream..

Yes, I definitely remember things I decide to memorize, especially under pressure. Yes, I "photograph" pages and read it from memory. And sometimes I understand everything, but usually I don't. I have to read it first! ;)

I'm myself in lucid dreams. It's like being transported to a little play world. For example, last night I had a dream that I went to this huge mall. So I made the best of it and went shopping. :D I was like, "Ooh, summer's nearly here, so I really need shorts and T-shirts." LOL I imaginary shopped and bought things I'd never be able to afford in reality.

By 360 degree view, I mean just that. You can see everywhere. On this forum, we often try to do stuff that we could never do in real life, even godly stuff.

Anyway as for the "cheating" thing, the word natural means something.

If I swim all of my life and became a natural swimmer and race someone who wasn't, then would I be cheating? You just have a natural in this area. Don't worry about it, you just the right person for the job. :D

You know what? I never really got the urge to do something wild and crazy in lucid dreams, although I definitely should try. It never appealed to me, but as I've surfed this forum, it sounds really cool. I usually just do whatever I have the impulse to. Then again, I'm a very realistic person, so maybe...I don't know. But I definitely would like to try some outrageous things. One time I transported myself into a video game. LOL That was pretty cool. I was all pixelated.

And wow looks like your mind is greatly developed...always having LDs, the synesthesia and the photographic memory...you shouldn't say your life suck, I mean yea you are different, in a good way, but you'll be like this for the rest of your life, so being in harmony with these is the least you can do! And I'm pretty sure these special abilities could be the future Humans "normal" abilities!

And also do you know if your parents or anyone in your family has something to do with those gifts?

That is very interesting nicole. I had a friend who once told me a bit about his dream experience, and it was similarly interesting to me.

I cannot remember if he said that he was fully lucid or not, but I am pretty sure that he did. He tended to watch himself from a third person point of view, kind of behind his character looking down or something. Also, he appeared to be what he thought was what he would probably look like when he was older.

Thank you! :hug: And it depends. I've noticed that in better sleeps, and when I wake up fully refreshed, I can recall more. Lately, I've not been getting enough sleep (final exams are torturing me), so my dreams, although they've been lucid, have been harder to recall. But that's just me.

I've done that before! Not in all of my lucid dreams, but I've done that many times. Does anyone comment and make observations in their lucid dreams? I'm a very observant person, so perhaps that's why I always do, but I'm just wondering. I'm always making little additional comments to myself in them about things.

I've done both actually! Not many times, but I definitely have. I'm in rush right now, but I can tell more later!

And I've definitely lost lucidity before. Sometimes it causes me to wake up, sometimes not.

If it comes and goes, it's not synaesthesia.

Huh, that's funny. I'd never heard of thing, but now I think I finally get why some friends of mine associate taste with shapes and feelings with color and who knows what ;)

Welcome to DV! Believe me, your not a freak, haha. Seriously. Lucid Dreaming is completely normal; in fact, many people's abilities in Lucid Dreaming vary. For example, my girlfriend typically becomes conscious in her dreams very frequently....more so than the "average" person (like me!), so your not too far from her in that aspect. Don't worry about a thing.

If the constant lucidity in dreams still bothers you, perhaps you can learn to embrace them; try dream meditation/yoga and things of that nature. It's always fun to explore your subconscious!

I thought it was the same color for all the letters though. i watched a video and I'm not quite sure if I understood right, but what I understood is that the shape and meaning has an effect to the brain or something and I thought that it said that it was the same for all of them... Yes, that is true, but there are some feelings that are synesthetes feel the same way. It's extremely hard to describe. I wrote a short story about a girl with synesthesia, and it was almost frustrating to get my ideas across to someone who didn't know synesthesia.

/jealous can we trade brains? seriously? i would be happy for you to have sub conscious dreams with the exchange of me being lucid for the rest of my life.

It's not a bad thing, really! :D just find out what you can actually do in lucid dreams and then try it out :D you wont even need a dream journal!

Lucid dreams are a wonderful opportunity to explore, experiment, and find inspiration. But unfortunately it is very difficult for most people to achieve, which is why we are all so jealous of your ability. ;) I have been practicing lucid dreaming for the past two years and only recently able to have them fairly regularly. My control is still not as good as I would like, however.

I do this all the time in my lucid dreams. I talk to myself a lot and say things like "This happens a lot in my dreams. I wonder why." Or I just comment about all the details and how beautiful a nature scene looks.

Doesn't it get boring? About a year ago I was having 3-5 LDs in a week (DILDs). Eventually I got bored and stopped lucid dreaming for the summer (maybe 5-7 LDs in 3 months).

You should not freak out of that at all. Actually if I were you I would spend most of my day sleeping, since I did not have any LD yet, even though I am trying so hard. It is harmless and very fun, helpful.

Anyways, I read somewhere that in lucid dreams you can create a pill that will prevent you from or force you to lucid dream for periods of time. I think there was a forum post somewhere in DV about it.

I'm kind of a musicphile as well. I usually listen to chiptune. As for "being without" music, I can "play" music in my head. Very vividly. I play music all day every day (it does still take effort, so I have occasional silence). It's easier for music I've recently been listening to, but I can experiment with whatever sound I want. In fact, this is how my first and only lucid dream became lucid. I started playing music in my head and the same song came on over the loudspeaker in the room I was in. I haven't had success since then, but I'm still trying to DILD and WILD. Although a recent altercation with REM inhibiting medicine is stalling me for now, I hope to have success soon.

I'm interested in the dream characters. How "intelligent" are they? How deep are the characters, I guess. I haven't really gotten to experiment with lucid dreaming. You could go to the "dream doctor" and have them prescribe you that pill I mentioned earlier. Although I don't really like to be dependent on drugs. It's not my thing.

Right then, back to characters, I also wonder if you've encountered the "Dream Guide" character that many "meet." If you haven't heard of this, it is a character that helps you do dream control and stuff. Also, we unblissfully unaware people who don't normally lucid dream have developed terms for everything. Such as DC, LD, DG, SG, AP, OOBE, WILD, MILD, DILD, DEILD, FILD, VILD, REM, SP, HI, HH, and RAWRISUCKATLUCIDDREAMINGHELPME are some examples. It's like being in the military. The "wiki" tab up there where you clicked "forum" to get here is helpful.

As for photographic memory, I have nowhere near that kind of ability, but sometimes when I'm taking a test I studied for, I can "visualize" what I studied. It isn't really detailed, but can help me recall the information better.

Wow, I didn't mean for this to be a wall of text, I guess I don't identify with "normality" either. It's fun to have unconventional brains, especially when they're different. I'm not "clinically" different from the "rest of us," but I don't feel as a part of it either.

For most, lucid dreaming is not a daily occurance, many will get to one a month, twice a month, maybe once a week with much practice and dream journal keeping.

I have been lucid dreaming sense I was a kid. Even when I was 4-5 years old. That stopped happening when I was about 12 years old.

But now that I have trained myself to lucid dream im having about 5 Lucids a week. (although right now I'm in a dry spell.)

I wonder if this person is still here.. I'm 1 of the kind about the luciding every night without effort, which I find it irritating sometimes. And there's the problem: I can't shut the lucidness off even for one night

I just remember 3 lucids of mine when I was young, Ghost through Window, Hell hole in Train and Dino MacDonald.
I started luciding like everyday since 4 years back for no reason.
And its really easy to LD, just need and active and imaginative mind thats all. Keep going at it.
E.g. of such mind: Reading book = Watching movie (as my mind will play out what I've read)

I do that too. Although, I like the cinematics in my brain better than a real movie.

CooL!...I've had vivid dream experiences that I though were normal to everyone. Then when I would strike up dream conversation I found most would say they don't even remember their dreams. Meanwhile I'm having a total interactive experience full of texture as if it's a actual physical location. I began to think I can't be the only one have these intense dreams so I googled dreams and found the lucid world which I am happy to say landed me here. I'm looking forward sharing and hearing more...:D

Yeh, so there's another problem such that i can't read a book very fast, and I can't read a lot in one go since its tiring, like what happens when you watch too much TV.
Same here RWJ42, just that you're so fortunate (I'm so envious of you all) that you can chose when and when not to lucid, and have no side effects.
However I can only remember it clearly if I think about it when I awake (and it must be At the instant moment I awake)..
Erm..as for Codename suggestion, I'm not sure if you all can spot any distinct differences (since the way I LD seems totally different than how you all LD)....
but no harm trying.
I normally will get higher lucidity, when I keep thinking about the things I want to accomplish, picture it out and join it into a situation in my mind just before I fall asleep.
(but I don't bother to do that, as its boring since I'm quite tired of luciding 'without my permission') and its definitely Every Night without fail..-sigh-

The guy has a good idea here. People like this just don't naturally LD for no reason at all, they have a different mindset than we do, they are internally more aware of life, things like that.

I've discovered that I am pretty ridiculously oblivious. I've started trying to RC every time I pass through a door. I found out I pass through without thinking about it the majority of the time. Later is a facepalm moment. :facepalm:

Athough I still don't understand why is there a need to RC before knowing that you all are in your dream or reality.
I thought it to be quite obvious when you try to do something in your dreams, its different..

Sometimes it's easy to distinguish. Sometimes it is just a mental crutch. Although in my first lucid dream, I was so surprised to find out the inane task I'd been doing was in a dream. lol. The task was something about vacuuming tons of stuff off of a pool table. Perhaps it is because I get extremely focused on doing the task rather than asking why. Although in reality (lol what is real), I often contemplate philosophical and existential debate in my mine idly.

I've tried to do some meditation. I've only done it successfully once. Since then I've discovered how far in the future I'm thinking the majority of the time. So the majority of the time, I'm not thinking about my current situation at all. This makes it difficult for me to say, "lolwut? I'm dreaming."

After I wake up, it is definitely easy to tell that it was a dream.
