You might want to try Reality Checks. Usually they're used to find out when you're dreaming, but I've found that sometimes they're useful for checking to make sure you're really awake Note: I used to use the finger counting reality check all the time (if you have five fingers, you're awake. Any other number, and you're dreaming.) After a while my hands starting looking too realistic in dreams and I would think I was awake when I wasn't. I fixed this problem by trying to consciously create an extra finger whenever I did the reality check; if I was awake, nothing would happen, but in a dream it would eventually work. Great for practicing dream control, too.
