Ok so I am alittle confused when to do these. What I have been doing so far is just randomly doing 3 different reality checks alot randomly during the day. So My question is it fine to do them alot at random, or should I do them in a certain manner?
It depends. You can do it randomly, every 15 minutes, once an hours, ect. Personally, I write an A (or another letter) on my hand and whenever I see it I do an Reality Check. There is also many different methods (I recommend doing two) like pinch your nose and try to breath through your nose and if you can it is a dream. Then look at text and see if it changes and then theres the finger through hand one. Any more questions?
I think its better if you do them alot more than 3 times a day. Take a sharpie and draw an "A" on the palm of your hand, everytime you see this A throughout the day, question whether you are dreaming and do a reality check.
Do reality checks all the time! I often do up to a hundred a day.
Also: Here's a fail-proof reality check that has never failed me.
1) Find something with words/numbers on it. Read it out loud letter-by-letter.(or number-by-number) Then read the word out loud (if it's a word)
2) Glance away and focus on something for just a split second. Now glance back and read it out loud letter by letter. Then read the word again out loud.
3) Repeat. I usually do this about 5 times.
The reason why this reality check works is because your brain doesn't keep information like numbers/letters in memory for very long while dreaming (Your brain knows this information is trash and irrelevant. So it immediately dismisses it.)
I usually use this RC with my phone (number-pad or the display on the screen telling me how many minutes I have, or the serial # on the back of it), or my cigarette pack, or anything in the room I can find. I did it with some dollar bills in a dream last night and became lucid in it (First time in over 6 months!!)
This is the only reality check that I use because so many others have failed me (veerrrrry frustrating as I'm sure you know)
Good luck!
Also: Some more tips:
Having trouble staying in your dream? Rub your hands! Clap your hands! Spin around really quick, ONCE, on 1 foot (Do a little twirl, where you can still feel the centripetal motion)
Having trouble with dark vision/blurry vision? "Take off the sunglasses!" (WOW, I kind of made this one up by myself and then found a post a few weeks later about it. Talk about INSTANT clarity and better detail. I've even done this a few times in a row to stay in my dream due to instability.)
Do one whenever you hear about dreaming, think about dreaming, or about doing a reality check (such as: "I havn't done a realiy check in a while," even if you did it just 3 minutes before). You can also do them whenever you see something strange: "Wow, is that lady really walking a hamster?" or anything seemingly out of the ordinary. It is also a good habit to check whenever you wake up (you'll catch a lot of false awakenings this way). It is also helpful just to do them randomly throughout the day, and having several is really helpful as well, especially when one fails (like you can't breathe when you plug your nose, but your finger goes through your palm).
Thanks for the advice everyone. This is really helping me out. now I have a better understanding for what to do. Thanks!
Doing RC's every hour on the hour can help.
