I just recently became interested in Lusic Dreaming. My dream recall is good now and I am performing reality checks whenever someone gives me an object, or whenever I go through a door. When I am falling asleep I realize that I am almost asleep, but I am not quite dreaming. I immediately wake up after this due to not actually being fully asleep. I have rarely attained lucidity while fully in REM sleep. Am I doing something wrong?
What exactly are you trying to do? If you're doing the traditional DILD using reality check, you don't need to notice yourself falling asleep. You just need to fall asleep as usual.
If you're doing WILD you do need to fall asleep consciously, but you can't do this in the beginning of the night, because you won't start with REM sleep.
You're attempting DILD correct?
It's best if you're really tired, try to go to bed an hour later than your normal bedtime. Make sure you go to sleep normally though, just relax and don't think about it so much otherwise you'll just lie there forever and when you finally do fall asleep your body will be too worn out.
If you don't have multiple dreams a night then I wouldn't attempt to DILD. It's more for people who have excellent dream recall, awake between dreams and easily go right back to sleep. You also need time, DILD's work BEST when you have a lot of time to sleep.
Once you get this down though, you'll be able to go to sleep when you're not tired and it'll work. Right now you need to relax and not focus so hard. You gain lucidity when you least expect it. don't try to force anything right now.
Hope that helps, DILD's rely a lot on RC's and DS's so do as many as you can and remember as much reoccurring images as possible.

Sounds like you're doing everything correctly, just keep what you're doing. You seem to be doing reality checks well, but you can always learn more. Check out the reality check tutorial (the tutorial section is linked in my signature,) and maybe also the DILD tutorial :)
